Pat Reilly

Would have been his birthday today.

Still rankles me there's no sort of recognition for him at Tannadice.

Re: Pat Reilly

Can't disagree with that B&T.
Any known ancestors anywhere do you think?

A few years ago, I researched his family tree in conjunction with Derek Robertson from the Club. Unfortunately, it appeared he had no direct descendants.

Re: Pat Reilly

It'll be the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2023: I'd like to think United will have a celebration of his importance to the club in place by then.

A man of vision and ambition and yet there's not a street sign, statue or even a plaque in place for the man who started the Football Club (albeit under a different guise).

It's not right.

Kinda IS our history.

Billy Hainey post # 4.
Did you establish he was unmarried with no children or anything?

It was a joint effort between mysell, Derek Roberston, and another Club employee, who did an enormous amount of work into Pat Reilly's family tree.

He was almost certainly never married.

It is possible that he did have offspring, but that fact was difficult to establish definitively 1 way or the other.

My involvement was solely because my Great Grandfather worked with Pat Reilly's father in Thonson and Shepherds. He informed my Great Grandad that his son, Pat Reilly, was starting a Football Club, and suggested he bring his sons to the football, that being my Grandad and his brother.

That is essentially how I am an Arab.

Did your research find if he had any Brothers who had kids, Bill?

Don't know why but it seems sad to me if his family line died with him. Given what he did for our club.

He had 3 brothers:-
Joseph who died an infant, Peter, and John - none of whom appear to have married or had children.

He had 2 sisters, Mary Ann, and Rose who died an infant.
His sister Mary Ann did have a son, but he died an infant.

I'll try an post some more meaningful info. Tek as I know a lot of folk are genuinely interested.
