And he seldom dives the right way.

Dissapointing night.
Scored 2 goals and showed some good fight again to come back and equalise.
But a real lack of quality in certain areas of the park and in certain players individually cost us heavily on the night.
Hopefully a short, sharp lesson tonight about how we will fare next season if we put our trust in certain players at Premiership level.

I’ve still to see him dive the right way never mind save one. The boy is also terrified of coming out for corners or crosses. Cost us on Saturday and twice again tonight. Good shot stopper but still feel we could do better.
As for the defending for the second goal, what a joke that was.

Benji has been outstanding from cross balls all season. Wee blip the last game or 2 but that doesnt take away the fact that he will be a good goalie for us in the Prem next season.

Played some decent stuff on the ground tonight, but let down by team selection for me, and some guys struggled a bit playing against a higher level side.
Very good support, and not too many angry/daft shouts towards the players. Generally, as a club we're going in the right direction, however we'll need wise recruitment if we are to do well in the top league.

I think my stats are right - since Benji signed he’s faced 34 pens , saved 0 and went the right way on much less than 50%.

We played an average top flight side and were schooled. A number of our starters are a long, long way from the required standard. That team wouldn’t survive in the top flight, simple as.

I really, really like Spörle. Think he could be a top player for us. Viva la Spörle.

Neilson:
"I think we're quire far away, I do to be honest," he said. "I would expect next season we have to improve and come to places like this and win.
"If we're going to try to get where we want to get to, there's areas of the pitch we know we have to improve in.
"[But] there were periods of the game where we created chances and looked like a Premiership team."

That's a good summary tbh.
The keeper was excellent first half but poor at the third and fourth.
The centre halves were really poor (and need replaced next season) not helped by zonal marking tactics.
Watson is injured seemingly: thigh strain which needs rested.
The full backs: Smith did much better tonight than the first game but Robson was poor tonight again: he's not been the same since his injury at QOTS. I'd say both will do ok in the Premiership after a period of adjustment though.
Pawlett was pish again: replace
Powers was great.
Butcher ok when we were going forward but rash as fuck at the penalty and was culpable for the poor defending of set pieces not helpedby zonal. Harkes was poor again. Think he will get better though. The word I'd use about him tonight was naive.
Appere played well I thought. Better wide of a 3 than wide in a 4-4-2 though, as Saturday showed.
Shankland: GOD.
McMullan needs to sort his attitude out. He is more than good enough to step up if he is on his game but is a waste of a shirt in any league if he is going to be a huffy wee shite.
Sow can fuck off now.
We need to actually just clear our lines at the back. Too many defenders thinking they are footballers and trying to play out from the back when it is not on.

I disagree regarding him next season. I feel we need a new number 1 in the top league with Benji back up.

If anyone before last night or still does think that squad would survive in the top flight they are kidding themselves on. Some players make the grade but not them all. There will be a fair bit of movement this summer imo.

Never seen much of the game due to the hibstv being fucking shit on the wifi i was using.
Butcher for their penalty was criminal no need to do that. Some strike from Shankland.

Agree with this summary LAO and Neilson's comments too.
Yes, we really will need some players in the summer to make the step up but we are not a million miles away.
Playing week-in, week-out against better players makes some players a better player IMO. Some of our players will make the step-up, some won't.

All four goals lost were avoidable, imo bowers.
The penalty came from a darting run by Boyle which should have been dealt with before he reached the box. All too often the full backs were exposed due to lack of support, but the speed and touch of some Hibs players were features we weren't used to and couldn't handle.
The second one of our players seemed to pull out of a tackle allowing Newell to get wide with time and space to place a ball to Doidge. Think Appere should have scored for us seconds before.
Third and fourth were poorly defended corners, with the central defenders and Benji letting themselves down. They were really poor goals to lose at any level.
A lot of fans seemed satisfied at our display, but I wasn't impressed by some performances, and the team selection and substitutions. Sporle again had some urgency about him, Glass was wasted out wide, and Sow's introduction pushed Shankland away from his best areas of the park. Sow looked well off the pace to me.

We were saying that at the match last night.
Including League Cup penalty shoot outs he must have faced about 30 penalties during his time with United. I can hardly remember him going the right way, let alone getting close to saving one. The only miss against him that I can recall, was in the St Mirren play off game (and that was a miss, rather than a save).
I like Benji as a keeper, it's just infuriating that someone as big as him has a poor record when it comes to penalties.
Maybe we should have a bit before the game where he faces penalties from fans (using their weaker foot), hopefully to build his confidence by saving some, although I dread to think how he'd feel if everyone scored

Our keeper is rubbish at pens. I can’t remember one time that he actually dived in the right direction.

by the law of averages he'd do better if he just stood still.

Hes fucking 77 inches long if he just flopped to ground arms one way and feet the other hed save 15-20%. Allan's pen was not great.

34 apparently 33 scored and a St Mirren one off woodwork. For charity I'd take 5 against him and pay £100 for any he saved....
