Re: Dundee Utd v Dundee 27/12/2019

Not much I can say about the performance that's not already covered.  The team got put to test last night and with any luck, it's maybe given them a kick up the arse....you can see a bit of complacency popping up.

On another note though, fantastic effort by the display team last night.

Look at our bench tonight. Had two 16/17 year olds on it,making up the numbers.

Fucking nonsense.

We need a couple of attacking options. The squad is threadbare.

100% agree with every word.

Tad harsh mate. Yeah we're disappointed not putting them away for the 3rd time this season but you make it sound like we're 14 points behind at the bottom rather than ahead at the top.

Squad becomes threadbare in 90 minutes? Look at our bench? Mochrie is going on 17 & on the bench for experience. Chalmers is going on 20 & is an attacking option. Sporle could be the player of the 2nd half of the season. Connolly is only on the bench cos Watson's playing a blinder. Cammy Smith and Adam King need a run.

We missed Stanton last night & Pawlett is due back. Glass is coming back from on loan. The Fun are better than their league position shows. We've 28 points out of 30 at home. I do agree we've not been great for a month but we've developed a good habit of winning & the team is getting stronger as it marches towards a decisive league title.

I'm a bit half and half on this. Utd were poor last night. As TEK says there was no depth to squad last night due to injuries to Stanton (who we missed badly last night) and Pawlett. The same 12 players have basically been carrying the team for the past 10 games (the starting line-up from last night plus Stanton). We looked tired but had very little on the bench because he clearly doesn't trust Smith or King and Sporle was only put on because of Clark's injury although it was the sub I'd have made too simply because it gave us a bit more width potentially.

A new left winger is the top priority signing next week imho. Appere is better starting in the middle then pulling out wide where he becomes an extra man and gets the time and space he needs to cross the ball. When he is asked to play out wide all the time and is left 1v1 with a defender he's just not got the skill, pace or trickery to get the better of a full back and deliver. Just 'doing a job' by working up and down the park is not enough imho (even though Neilson thinks it is, hence why Appere was switched wide right rather than go up front when Sporle came on) left us relying too heavily on McMullan on the other side which is ok when he is on his game, but totally devoid of ideas when he's not like last night. Not sure Sporle is the answer either, he did well a couple of times but also looked taken aback by the ferocity of the game and tbh a couple of times, looked like he didn't fancy it.

Great goal to start the gehm off nicely. No too bad in the first half overall I suppose.

Very poor in the second. However 14 clear at the top.  17 points and plus 28 goals on the Fun . No too bad at all.

PS scummy behaviour from the Derry W8nkers throwing coins etc at our players and grabbing hold of Robson at one point. This is becoming more and more apparent with them. United should call them out on this or it becomes more acceptable to behave like that.

Their inferiority complex is becoming more and more poisonous. This “friendly derby” tag is becoming a bit redundant, most Arabs I know treat the funsters like the village idiot that they are, and there’s no real intense hatred towards them, as they’ve never been a real threat to us.

The funsters however are becoming increasingly bitter and venomous the longer their plight continues. For now, it just manifests itself in them dancing on top of cars after a draw and making coffins, but I can see this soon escalating into real violence and hostility before and after future derbies.

They need to remember their place and stop getting so hung up on United all the time.

No it doesn't become threadbare in 90 minutes. It's been that way all season.

Neilson's hands were tied last night. He picked his strongest XI. But he had literally nothing to call on from the bench. Two kids, Mehmet, Connolly and 2 guys who i think will be out the door next week as they're not good enough i.e. Cammy Smith and Adam King (and that is on Neilson really because he signed both). That he brought on Sporle shows how desperate we were for fresh legs. He hasn't featured for months.

It's frustrating because the team were tired last night. The same players have been dragging us through this run.

If we had a couple of options last night we would have won that game.

As it is Dundee's bench was stronger than ours, which is the main reason they dominated the 2nd half.

We only had Stanton and Pawlett (who never plays anyway) out btw. It's not like we had an injury crisis on our hands.

Re: Dundee Utd v Dundee 27/12/2019

I thought when Clark scored we were away to go on and give them another doing.  How wrong was i??
As the game went on we fell further out it. In the 2nd half dundee wanted it far more and in the last 10 i felt we were holding on as thought a 2nd was coming for them.

As has been the case all season we have really lacked quality in depth to the squad and hopefully very soon into the window we will see a winger come in.

I thought the same after Clark scored, some of the team looked a little jaded as the game went on.

Be good to see Glass back to see what he can do but think one or two key additions would help with the final push

Re: Dundee Utd v Dundee 27/12/2019

Thought Watson was our best player on the night btw.

Not that anyone was that good.

Benji done well too.

p.s. 3 poor Derby performances from Shankland (albeit he scored in the previous two). I'll be looking for a big performance from him in the next one.

Shankland scored a great goal in the second. He was totally starved of any kind of service on Friday night.

He had one cross on a plate for him which he should have done better with.

He never had much service but his individual play was poor too imo.

Though he wasn't alone in that.
