Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Best Achievement: Goes without saying, Scottish Cup win in 2010.

Best Signing: Lawrence Shankland for me, few other obvious ones that could go in here, but I think in terms of how much vital his goals will be in firing us to the title, and the potential transfer fee he could net us in the future, he's pound-for-pound the best of the bunch.

Worst Signing: Yet again, more than a few that could go in here, but I'm gonna go with Robbie Muirhead, watched him a couple of weeks back against the fun, and it's actually incredible to think we spent six figures on him, genuinely believe there's boys at Dawson Park on a Sunday that have more about them than this waster.

Biggest Bargain: Andy Robertson on a free. Could've easily had him as best signing, but ultimately, the team he played in still would've done well enough without him, so don't think he was as vitally important to us as Shankland is now.

Best Manager: Pedro for me, not only for the Scottish Cup win, but to get three consecutive top 4 finishes while Thompson was tightening the purse strings is some going. Got hope that Neilson could be as good though in time.

Worst Manager: Baw hair between the three prior to Neilson, but Laszlo just edges it for me.

Best Game: Plenty of contenders here, but "Neutral" Ibrox in the Scottish Cup is up there with my favourite ever days watching United, ripping the cunt out the Sevconians for 90 minutes is something I'll never forget.

Worst Game: Scottish Cup Final 2014 for me, how we couldn't beat they hammer-throwers with the team we had that day still depresses the fuck out of me. We should be on 6 right now.

Best Moment: Since I've already used the Scottish Cup Final and Ibrox, I'll go with the first 6-2, watching the funsters slink off to their beds before the hour mark is something I'll never tire of.

Worst Moment: Would be easy to say the Doon Derby as they call it, but I'd honestly stopped giving a fuck long before then, and had long since accepted our fate. Has to be Black Monday in February 2015. Ultimately, the biggest part of being a fan is dreaming of success, 6 points off the top, having just reached a cup final 2 days previously, to sell our two best players to the team we were chasing destroyed that dream,  it told us all that their was absolutely zero ambition at the club other than to fund one silver spooned halfwit's jet-setting, sugar-daddy lifestyle. We're still feeling the repercussion of that decision to this day, though thankfully, the division it caused within the club and the support is being mended thanks to the new broom that's sweeping through the club.

Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Leave out Best Game please chaps.

We are running our own competition on the Forum regards that very topic and it would derail the discussion on there if we were all just to post on this thread.

Best Manager: macnamara (unpopular one but at the helm of arguably the best united team I’ve seen in my 38years)

Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Great topic, JD!

Best Achievement: 2010 Cup win.
Best Signing: Lawrence Shankland
Worst Signing: Michal Szromnik.
Biggest Bargain: Andy Robertson
Best Manager: Peter Houston
Worst Manager: Jackie Mcnamara
Best Game: 4-0 win at Motherwell, November 2013.
Worst Game: 6-1 defeat at Falkirk Stadium, January 2018. I've put the 2014 Final out of my mind, but get reminded of that 6-1 humping every time I see the ground, which happened today yet again.
Best Moment: Ciftci's goal celebration before the event at Ibrox, 2014.
Worst Moment: Relegation in 2016.

Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Best Achievement: 2010 Cup Win.

Best Signing:  Ciftci - unplayable when at his best and with better management that 2014 team could’ve challenged for the title.

Worst Signing: Kawashima - took months for paperwork to be sorted and was on a handsome wage. Terrible for someone that’s played at world cups before and after his time at tannadice.

Biggest Bargain: Andy Robertson - free transfer that become 3 million in less than a full year.

Best Manager: Peter Houston - easiest question of all. Only 3 men have won a major honour for United, he’s one of them. All the men that have followed (bar RN) have been totally useless.

Worst Manager: Csaba - but Ray and Jackie aren’t as far behind as some people believe.

Best Game 15 May 2010, both wins over  The Rangers, then the 6-2’s.

Worst Game: 6-1 Falkirk, 4-0 QOTS, 3-0 QOTS

Best Moment: Ciftci goal v The Rangers

Worst Moment: Relegation at the Trollydome

Worst Signing:    Toshney, not the worst player, but the worst overall signing
Biggest Bargain:    A Robertson
Best Manager.    Houston
Worst Manager:     Jackie
Best Game:
Worst Game:     St J cup final, the day we all knew deep down which direction we were heading
Best Moment:     Goodie’s lob
Worst Moment.  Relegation

Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Good to see other people agreeing with me on McNamara. Criminal that he was incapable of getting that team into Europe even once. A more limited squad in the 3 or 4 years prior achieved much more (not diminishing the achievements of some legendary United players.)

Jackie had probably the 3rd best squad we’ve ever had, certainly by far the best since 87, he achieved nothing, then gradually destroyed it and we’re still recovering and will be former years to come.  Absolute useless cunt.

I can see your point on McNamara, he was ultimately seriously undermined by his chairman, whether you agree with the nature of his deal not, to leak the details of his contract was a snarky, snakey move by Mr. A, done only to take the heat off himself for his own stupidity.

I don’t believe that McNamara got the most out of the tools at his disposal, and his transfer dealings, particularly in his last two windows, were mostly farcical. But to suggest that he was worse than McKinnon, Laszlo or Mixu is ludicrous IMO.

Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Best Achievement: 2010 Scottish Cup Final
Best Signing: Andy Robertson
Worst Signing: Too many to name
Biggest Bargain: Return flights from Auckland to Glasgow for the 2010 cup final
Best Manager: Peter Houston
Worst Manager: Has to be Jackie, there some good times but ultimately he was found out
Best Game: See competition TEK is running
Worst Game: 2014 cup final. A team with so much talent who failed dismally on the big stage
Best Moment: 2010 cup win
Worst Moment: When GMS and Armstrong signed for Celtic at end of transfer window. I missed the true glory days and grew up with Rangers/Celtic dominating Scottish football, when we were 2nd in the league having just beaten a good Celtic team, and into the league cup final, i was so optimistic....

Re: Best/Worst of the Decade

Best Achievement: Winning the Scottish Cup in 2010

Best Signing: Nadir Ciftci - Came on a free. A nobody. Turned out the best forward we'd had since Kjell Olofsson. Big, strong, talented, played for the badge. An entertainer. And had a mad/wild side. The type of player you never forget.

Worst Signing: Osman Sow. Given his form at Hearts just 3 or 4 years ago I genuinely felt the boy would be a 'Title winning' signing for us. Instead we have signed the biggest crock we've ever had. And that includes Mario Bilate (at least he played in a Cup Final for us).

Biggest Bargain: Andy Robertson. Signed for free as an amateur. After one magnificent season with Utd he pockets the club a cool 2 million pounds and get's himself a shot at the big-time. Great business all-round for all involved (even Queens Park who we gave a wedge too).

Best Manager - Peter Houston

Worst Manager: Csaba Laszlo (by miles).

Best Game: I'll save this opinion for the other thread on the Forum.

Worst Game: Losing 6-1 away to a poor Falkirk side. An absolute disgrace of an afternoon that should have seen Csaba Laszlo removed from his position that very night.

Best Moment: Winning the 2010 Scottish Cup Final in the Sunshine with 28,500 other Utd supporters. One of the best days of my life and a moment that had only fantasised about in my wildest dreams previously.

Worst Moment: Losing the 2014 Scottish Cup Final to an organised but 'stuffy' St.Johnstone side. We took our biggest ever support to a match (30,000 wasn't it?). But just everything about that day didn't feel right. From the pre-match drinks beforehand (no real singing, all felt rather flat and almost as if we felt we just had to turn up and win), to the shambles that was the turnstyles behind the goal (I was queued outside for a good 40-45 minutes in a queue that never moved as the turnstyle malfunctioned. Missed the first 10 minutes of the match and the 'Fans Display' that was badly affected as a result of so many being outside at the time), to the tepid atmosphere inside, to Utd hitting the inside of the post and crossbar, to Rado just staying on his line and watching their man head into an empty net when the cross was his all day long, to Rankin's stupid pass back at the end that let in Steven MacLean to inflict the fatal blow to us. Just a horrible, horrible day.
