Would like to gauge some early opinion on here as to how the vote will go in Scotland in 6 months time.
SNP for me.

SSP probably. Whilst I voted Yes in the referendum, I have real issues with how the SNP have run certain things in Scotland, specifically the farcical (done at warp speed) implementation of Curriculum for Excellence in schools and the introduction of Police Scotland leading to policing effectively being a Strathclyde policy one-size-fits-all only dictatorship led by an absolute bastard of a man in Stephen House. The anti-alcohol agenda is also starting to grate on me as failing to tackle the real problems with drink, drinkers and drunk drivers in Scotland and instead hitting the more responsible majority. The NHS has also limped along (no pun intended) under their stewardship with little or no creative thinking, instead a 'throw money at the problem and hope it gets better' (which is not really making any difference) policy, to the detriment of other services such as education that are really suffering with cuts while NHS budgets are largely maintained for political purposes. The fact is the public hate schools and teachers so don't bother about cuts to us, whilst the NHS is the sacred cow. The sooner the SNP are not the only show in town in Scotland, the better because the SNP might say a lot of the right things, but what they are doing in practice is often quite a bitter pill to swallow. Never voting Labour again mind you.

'The public hate schools and teachers'.
Quite the statement.
Anything to back that up ?

I've been a teacher for nearly 13 years. You want to see/hear some of the stuff parents come away with to teachers. The lack of support from parents towards what you are trying to do to help pupils achieve/improve is staggering as is the lengths some of them will go to defend their wee angels.
I'm generalising granted, but the point is politically, schools are an easier taget than hospitals. The Council Tax freeze is starting to really bite on top of the wider Westminister cuts on budgets.
I was actually surprised the Smith Commission never recomended devolving Council Tax Benefit which could have enabled a fairer system of local taxation to be brought in in Scotland (Local Income Tax or a Land Value Tax for example).

I'm voting SNP. Have done a few times. It's an anti Labour vote more than anything else. Trying to move back to the west of the city so I can vote against McGovern.
Wouldn't join the SNP or anything. Its a pay at the gate thing rather than a season ticket type thing for me. An end to a means.
They've been competant in Holyrood. Concerns over education etc like Lifesonocean but im kind of curious what sort of chaos a hung Parliament and a lot of SNP MPs will bring.
Don't agree that everyone hates teachers either

Without wishing to take the thread on a different tangent i am quite surprised that you have encountered such obstacles to your teaching by parents of your pupils.Maybe you were just unlucky that you've encountered a few ignorant people.
Speaking for myself i've always gave teachers a certain deference, including my son's present teacher who's a young woman who's probably even younger than myself.
The NHS is one of the Jewels in the crown and though it could certainly be better managed, should at all costs be protected.
Budgeting for the NHS shouldn't however be at the detriment to the Education system (and vice versa).
Having a strong Health+Education service should always be the 2 core goals of any Government.Budget cuts could (and should) be made in other areas (Arms, illegal Wars etc would be a fine start).
The increasingly right wing media try to deflect this point by deflecting peoples attention onto subjects like immigration, the supposed threat from Russia and North Korea,Ebola.
Johnny Foreigner he be scary.

If it was tomorrow, it'd be SNP. Although I'd like to see a viable alternative appear on the scene. Always voted, even campaigned for Labour, but can't see them ever getting a vote from me again.

I'm being a crabbit bastard granted. Most parents do not hate teachers. But in the school I'm at it appears to be a very passive experience for too many parents. Too many not really interested in giving their kids a push they need to do well.
I can understand why folk will vote SNP next year, but too many people blind to their actual record in government. They've done some good things but these have been fairly populist giveaways. Other big policies have been poor.
I agree with all of the above btw. A party which actually closes tax loopholes would get my vote. Tax is the glue which holds society together and its a disgrace the lengths people go to avoid it.

Agree the SNPs record ain't great and that's why I'm hoping a real alternative emerges, not goons happen tho.
Don't blame anyone who avoids tax while it's legal. I blame every political party for doing nothing to make it illegal, but they've got their reasons for that, haven't they?

Would generally vote for the most left wing option to reflect my beliefs, i.e. SSP, but will probably vote tactically for the first time i.e. SNP.

My wife's a teacher as well and I can certainly sympathise regarding the cirriculum for excellence, it sounds like a nightmare to manage. And the Fire Service are the same as the Police now where we have just dissolved into one big Strathclyde model to follow which is frustrating as a lot of the good ideas and practises from other areas have been disregarded in favour of 'the strathclyde way'
In saying that I wouldnt point the finger at any political party for that, I blame the people who's job's it is to excute it and to manage the process who are failing at it.
Also I can understand, but dont necessarily agree 100%, about the lack of support from parents being a teacher. The stuff that my wife tells me sometimes pisses me off as well.
Teachers are undervalued, as most of the public sector workers are, and I appriciate the job that you, and a few others on this forum, do for the kids.
In closing, I will be voting for the SNP in 2015. If not the SNP then I would have went for the Green Party.

Voting for SNP. Whilst I would not discount voting for the SSP, Greens and some Independant Candidates, overall the SNP are making the greatest amount of headway and have had a more positive influence on Scotland within the confines of the Scottish Parliament than any of the other major parties would have had.
I still would not rule out voting for a single issue candidate though

See Margaret Curran was saying we NEED to vote Labour to stop a Tory government.
Pity she spent the majority of the year telling us it didn't matter if we had a Tory government because Holyrood protects us from them.
Can't have it both ways
Offline
If more had voted YES, we most definitely would've stopped an English tory government affecting Scotland. At the same time, new labour would've lost their crucial Scottish support (for old labour), so she was fucked. As it stands, we're about to get the furthest right UK government since Thatcher.
Well done the NO brainers.

If there was a 'real' Labour Party most folk up here would probably vote for them.
They're going to get a bit of a spanking up here. DOn't think the SNP will win the number of seats predicted but if if they get 20 plus MPs then that is genuinely revolutionary

If Dundee ends up without a Labour representative in Westminister it shows how far they've fallen
