The self pity of Scottish football

Some harsh but very fair words spoken here by a man who knows a thing or two about promoting events, running competitions, and football clubs.

I particularly like the "if you worked for me you would have been sacked" line aimed at Doncaster.

Re: The self pity of Scottish football

It's a very good article that raises the same points that always gets dismissed imo Lack of self belief, lack of sponsorship, lack of beverages and i also believe we should watch our football through the better weather too, nothing new but hopefully one day it will change when we have a real men in charge of Scottish Football who aren't afraid of change itself.

Hear their shout, hear their roar
They've probably had a barrel of ale and much, much more
Hooray, hooray, hooray, yeah
Over the hill went the swords of a thousand men

Stating the bleeding obvious, like the blanket ban on alcohol (cheers ugly sisters) is wrong.

Hearn might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I reckon he'd be a breath of fresh air if he was in charge of the SPFL. He is spot on what he is saying.

Too much commotion

Re: The self pity of Scottish football

As long as the Armegeddon brothers are in with the ugly sisters Scotish football will not go forward,
how they are still in jobs really baffles me, I hope Craig Whyte spills the beans on the lot of them, cant
see them not being implicated in one way or another, rotten to the core!

We don't give a damn what the others say
We'll cheer on United all the way
For we are the Terrors of Tannadice

I feel like I have been saying this for ages. Our constant moaning and derision of our game just constantly undermines it along with septic the der hun previously always talking about moves away to the EPL. Things key to this are certain newspapers (daily mason, the sun) and broadcasters like Chick the Prick Young who just moan and moan. It's no wonder we don't have the simplist thing like a league sponsor because of it due to the endless media pish that comes streaming out. Plus not too many seem to be linking the recent revival and progress of the national team with our club game, as although many play down south the majority all came through at Scottish clubs and played in the league for a good few years.

In the short term there are a few quick fixes which may help tempt a few back like getting a pint in a ground and slightly better pricing for a start.

Re: The self pity of Scottish football

I thought he was spot on. The stuff about the sponsership is criminal. However it's no suprise Doncaster is shite as his job, He couldn't run one club (Norwich I think) so instead, we employ him to run every club is the mother duckling country!

Re: The self pity of Scottish football

Is it just me or is Scottish football getting even better post Armageddon? I haven't seen a team shut up shop at Tannadice since Billy Reid Accies' and the odd Highland team, and every team now seems to want to play open football.

No sure about that Bugs, did you not see the St Johnstone game earlier this season, they were unbelievably negative.  JMAC even joked that Paton/Morris deliberately made a gaffe to draw them out leading to our first goal.

No, that is the boxing promoter boy/girl Frank Maloney

This is the boy who took darts from being shit to the massive success it is now and is also trying to change snooker too.

Think his points are spot on and about time a mavric like him came in and shook the SFA / SPFL up a bit and got the collar and tie mob a smack round the chops!

Re: The self pity of Scottish football

Good article. It is alarming when someone with no involvement with Scottish football can so quickly sum up some of the major issues that are not being addressed.

Agree with Bugs, overall post armageddon Scottish football is better. Pity it is not being recognised or nurtured to take it to the next level by the heads of the game.

Sorry, LAO, you're right, free flowing end to end flair football is certainly alien to anti-fitba' Saints but they don't just shut up shop, they play to their limited strengths (post May, very limited).
