For anyone who missed it, the Courier report:
If the website comments, which I never paid attention to, were direct quotes from RN, at best he's been misinterpreted by IMcC. But they were a bit thoughtless, if accurately reproduced on the official site. The pair of them (McCall and Neilson) have acted in an immature manner, and the one who suffers is the player, in my view.
I'd like to think LS will be all out to show he's more than an Ian McCall product (which he obviously is) when we meet Ayr in the remaining matches.

I (like most) cannae go Ian McCall.
But i think it is understandable the line about Shankland getting 'better coaching' annoyed him.
He's clearly used those comments to get his players riled up to go out and beat us and it's worked. So fairplay to him for that.
It's the kind of tactic i wish Neilson would deploy tbh. I just find him a bit beige.

Hopefully we fuck them the rest of the season.

If indeed that is a verbatim quote then it's a poor choice of words.
Saying 'full time training' would have been much less contentious.
And we might have won!
McCall's comments would make sense if Shankland hadn't scored since leaving Ayr. But he's scored a barrowload already so not sure what the wee shoe shitter is on about tbh

Just football banter - no biggie. As someone else says something we should use to shut MccCall up

I have a grudging admiration for McCall. What he achieves with teams with limited budgets is phenomenal. At the time I thought his appointment at Tannadice was inspired, but in truth he couldn't change from the street fighter he is to the type of manager we needed in the top half of the top league.
The latest is just classic McCall and Neilson just needs to straight bat it. McCall must have been loving it when he saw we were set up differently to the first three winning games. Effective capitulation before we got on to the pitch. Neilson needs to develop a more robust (top half of top league) ethos soon, very soon.

The 'better coaching' comment should never have been allowed to be published. Once again, our communication/PR team has let us down by publishing a comment that was like a red rag to a bull. The Ogren era has seen a lot of improvements but this continues to be our big weak spot.

Totally agree with you on the comment, accurate or otherwise, being published. Thoughtless, to do so, only setting Robbie up for a fall.
Ian McCall would have been waiting for such an outcome as Saturday's so he could make his statement: and our performance, whether down to tactics or otherwise, gave him the perfect opportunity.

I wonder if McCall would have mentioned this if we had won.......

The fact Neilson’s risen to it is as bad as the better coaching comment.
He needs to concentrate on remembering to play 2 up front and not worrying about Ian McCall.

Does anyone have the original quote?

McCall was on bbc radio scotland dropping in a good few psychological comments in tonight. Nothing major but if you pay attention it's all there.
I don't despise him but can see what he's up to.

Quoted in Courier article, as from the official United website:
“We are getting a player who has shown how good he can be at this level and we believe we can make him an even better player with the facilities and coaching that is available at Dundee United.”

I don't see anything wrong in that quote.
I'm sure we have better training facilities in place and I'm also sure the coaching is better at tannadice.
The managers tactics might not be better but I'm sure the other things are.
