Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

Sow away to Killie. Official now.

Season long loan. Not sure why we didn't just make it till January.

Dissapointing end to the window. I worry (despite Friday) that if Shankland get's injured, we will struggle for goals in his abscence.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

The shed- was putting him in with the group of youngsters coming through....

As good as he is, I guess we cant expect him to play 40 games this season...hes come a long way in a short time

What did robbie say regarding his preferred squad size?

We currently have:

Gk: benji, Denis

Df: connolly (injured) reynolds, robson, sporle, watson, smith

Midfield stanton, harkes, butcher, king

Attack: mcmullen, c smith pawlett,

Striker: shankland sow.

Is that a base squad of 17, which is supplemented with youngsters. Sure robbie said we were looking at around that.

My issue if we dont have any defensive players coming through...so maybe need 1 or 2 there

Edit: Ralston to saints

Clark?

Greg Kiltie to Dunfermline.

Could be a good signing for them.

Appere

Banks, Chalmers

We have versatility throughout the squad. Butcher, Watson can play in 2 positions to give us defensive cover and Harkes, Stanton, King is fine for centre mid if Butch in defence.

C Smith, Pawlett, Clark, Appere have all proved they can play out wide or up with Shankland.

McMullan can play on either wing or up top. We have plenty cover in all positions imo. We need a clear pathway for youth. I wouldnt say no to a real blockbuster signing though...

We’re an injury in CB and and injury upfront away from a shortage of players IMO.

Yip.

Also have no defensive, ball winning type midfielder, if Butcher is needed at CH (i think he will be, a lot!).

We aren't far away, that is the frustrating thing.

2 or 3 more players in and even i would bet on us to win the league (and i'm normally pretty pessimistic).

We have to hope we don't hit a period of injuries when the winter kicks in and the pitches get torn up.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

Think there’ll still be movement over the next few days for one, maybe two. Could’ve been that someone we have lined up secured his release last night and we simply haven’t had time to do the deal yesterday.

Frear is a free agent - likely he'll sign in the next few days id think

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

Assume we will sign Frear at some point over the next few days.
Hoping for an unattached defender to come in also.

With Sow only away to January we may be fine up top for cover with what we have. Defensive cover is the real concern.

We did most of our business early and targeted quality instead of quantity for a change.....I'm mostly satisfied and getting rid of some boys will help keep a happy squad..

I keep reading this, that we signed 'quality over quantity'. Out of our Summer signings only Shankland has broken into the first team. Liam Smith was signed in January.

Meanwhile players like Adam King and Adrian Spörle will line-up for the reserves again today.

We've won a watch with Appéré as i really don't think the club expected him to come back and be the player he has been for us so far this season.

Not sure other than Shankland the recruitment deserves much praise tbh.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

No inside information or source, so just a bit of speculation: see Craig Tanner turned down an offer to extend his contract at Motherwell last night.

Don't think he got on a pitch last season due to a very bad knee injury, but thought he stood out at Fir Park far more than Elliott Frear, when fit the season before last.

It may be a risk for anyone thinking of signing Tanner, but any player can get a bad injury at any stage, and given some of our backroom staff having links with the Steelmen, do any on here think he'd be a decent signing? Turns 25 next month, and has played a few non competitive games as he seeks full fitness again recently.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

Bit disappointed with the Sow departure.  Think he has something but never been fit enough to show us.  Also is Rugby Park still astro?  If so, can't see him finding fitness on that.  Aird and Frans going is fine with me although I do think we are now 1 player short in each of defence, midfield and attack.  Suspect there will be a couple of out of contracts, but I'm assuming this is about bringing through the youth.  What has happened to all the great contacts that Ashgar and his team were bringing?  We've seen Sporle who apparently doesn't cut it. After a good start now is not the time to gamble with a squad lacking depth.  I don't really follow what the plan is - unless there are a 2/3 more to come in....

Agree with Tek here - bar Shankland and Smith, our business has not been impressive.  Let's hope they are enough to get us through.  I do fear we are going to be back to square one though if we get a couple of injuries to key men or if we get a couple of bad results in a row.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

Tbf to the club we had a summer transfer window in January last season, we didn’t need many players in the summer, we’ve made the signing of the summer and add bits and pieces to squad and also managed to get rid of all the dead wood! If we manage to get a left winger in, weve had a good window

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

We've got 2 or 3 good youths who could step into the forward positions - defence gives me the fear.

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

A good few of the boys we picked up in January have now also gone though, as well as big clear outs in those windows too.  Might be ok if we bring through some of the touted youngsters, but I still think there is a bit of a gamble here if there is not an intention to bring in some more experienced cover, especially in defence.  Maybe the lad King is just getting match fit and that might be another big signing but bar Shankland I'm underwhelmed.  It wasn't as if last season the only thing we needed was a striker...

Re: Ins/Outs before Tuesday 2nd September - Prediction thread

This is another thing i've noticed. Folk saying the youngsters are ready to push for first team action.

Appéré - Yes, obviously. Though his form will fluctuate like all young players. And there will be times we need to manage that.

Think it's a season too early for Banks and Chalmers to really push for first team football.

Other than that there's no-one.
