Where do people stand on our esteemed manager following Celtic up and down the country when United aren’t playing?
I think it’s a fucking disgrace to be perfectly honest with you. It’s not Pollok Juniors he’s managing, it’s Dundee United, one of the top provincial clubs in the country, and it’s totally unbecoming of a manager of this great club to be travelling around with the green brigade whenever he gets a free minute.
And for the people that say “he’s just going cause his boy’s a Celtic fan”. So fucking what? Have you never told your bairn no before? Do you indulge your kids with absolutely everything they ask to do? He should be sitting down with his son and telling him that he’s the manager of one of Celtic’s rivals and unfortunately he can’t be taking him up and down the country to be part of the Green Brigade anymore, but there’s lots of other things they can do together, especially when they’re getting caught in TV now.
Do you think Jim McLean would’ve been in the Broomloan belting out the Billy Boys whenever Rangers had a Sunday game?
Mark Ogren should be sitting Goodwin down this weekend and telling him in no uncertain terms that unless he prizes being part of the green brigade higher than he does being the manager of Dundee United, then it stops now, otherwise he won’t have to worry about United getting in the way of Celtic games any more.

I reckon if Mark Ogren sat down with Goodwin there's a good chance he would be facing the wrong way.
It's not a great look, but none of us would be arsed about what he does in his spare time if our defenders (most of which he signed) didn't defend like a Frenchman the minute they heard a German accent.

I disagree, I think people should be arsed about it. What if that was us in Hearts’ position today? Surely that’s got to be the aim for the likes or ourselves, Aberdeen & Hibs after seeing what Hearts have done this season. Yes they’ve spent more than us, but it’s not multiples and multiples more than us, there’s a lot of bog standard Scottish Premiership players that have got them into that position. All that separates us from where they are currently is a lack of ambition and vision.

I am another who hates seeing our Manager at Celtic Park constantly, when ever he gets the chance.
He's not following the 'Green Brigade' as you say, he's in their Executive Boxes, but i nonetheless fucking hate it.
It makes us look toy town, frankly.
As you suggested, can you imagine Jim McLean going to Ibrox with his Sons every other week?
Why do our fans except everything lying down? Weak mentality.

It seems to be more of a problem this season after a disappointing season where we’ve finished 7th than it was last season when we finished 4th.

Couldn’t care less. Is his son not a Celtic supporter?

Nope.
I've never liked it.

Good for you.
Couldn't care less if he is. It's a bad look our Manager being at their games.

I must have missed the thread on it this time last year.

I don't care particularly. He's been a Celtic fan for years and would we all do the same for united same if we were in charge of a club? Probably.
Ultimately, we've done okay against both of the erse cheeks under Goodwin, not any worse than any other manager. Gave Celtic 2 losses this year also so it's clearly not effecting his job.
I can completely understand why it does piss people off though.

He’s not always in the executive boxes, I’ve had plenty pictures sent to me from Celtic supporting mates over the years of him sitting in amongst the normal support over the years, at home and away games, including across the road at Dens on multiple occasions.
How embarrassing would that be for us, some funster spotting United’s manager sitting in the Shankly amongst the Celtic fans.
If I was Ogren, I’d tell him he’s getting fined a week’s wages every time he gets caught going to Celtic games.

So what if he is? Are you not allowed to tell your bairns no nowadays?
I’m sure when he grows up, his son will understand why his father couldn’t be taking him up and down the country to watch Celtic when he was the manager of a rival club.

Doesn't bother me, didn't we beat them twice this season?
Think that shows where his bread is buttered.

I just hope he fucks off over there permanently tbh

I wonder if he'd get away with doing it if he was manager of Sevco? Nah didn't think so

Of course he wouldn’t, it’s a fucking embarrassment. I don’t think he’d have done it at Aberdeen either. The club should be putting a stop to it, end of story. A Dundee United manager shouldn’t be supporting another club in the same league in their downtime, we’re not a fucking amateur outfit.
I’ve no doubt Steven Pressley was hoping Hearts were gonna lift the league yesterday, I doubt he was sitting in the away end at any of their games in the run in though, cause he’s a professional football manager. Can’t say the same for our manager though, I can almost guarantee he was at Parkhead yesterday watching his team win the league.
He wants to fucking buck up his ideas, he’s giving people a lot of reasons to want him out of a job.

He still shouldn’t be doing it. And the club should be telling him as much. You never told your bairn no before?

It does make us look Mickey mouse imo.
I don’t think he should just stop supporting them obviously he is allowed to go to their games and be a fan, I just wish he would show some personality and enthusiasm towards Dundee United as-well. It never seems like he actually cares about the club he just treats it the whole thing like a job, which it is but you’re allowed to show some character to connect with the fans more etc.

He can support them from the comfort of his living room, going to the games for anything other than a scouting mission is unprofessional, I genuinely don’t care if his son’s a Celtic fan or not, he shouldn’t be going, simple as that.
You’re right though, considering how long he’s been at the club, and the undeniable highs he’s had here (Championship win, Qualifying for Europe, the actutls European run), he’s never really felt connected to the club in the way that past managers like Levein, Houston and even McNamara to an extent did. You never see him doing q&a’s with the fans, events in Dundee, podcasts talking about the club. Even the interview he did with DUTV was focused mainly on his ground at Celtic and in England. I didn’t learn a single thing about his time at United in it.
He’s our longest serving manager since Jim McLean, but I genuinely think he’ll be forgotten about the minute he walks out the door, no one will pine for him the way they did with Levein, or be sitting down with him in the Whitehall Theatre in 10 years time to talk about his spell at United.

I'm not entering the debate but honestly anyone who thinks Jackie McNamara had a connection and loyalty to the club needs to give their head a wobble.

He certainly involved himself and integrated himself with the fanbase a lot more than Jim The Tim does. I was at a number of events organised by the club where Jackie sat down and spoke with the fans. It was only when things turned toxic due to Thompson revealing the details of his contract that he stopped doing them.

Yeah i totally agree, I don’t think he will ever leave United with the fondest memories. I wish there was more Q&As and other things also interacting with the players as-well, the team feels completely like a business and it should feel like a family.
He’s been alright for us overall but he has the fans completely fed up with this inability to play proper football, if he actually interacted with the club and the fans etc more he instead of just repeating the same sentences/scripts in his interviews with a brazen expression he might have more belief/backing behind him, unfortunately i don’t think he will ever try and connect. All of his footballing passion doesn’t seem to go anywhere near us, at least he hasn’t shown it in my opinion.
I’m gonna back him for the start of next season all things said but if he doesn’t show some change and is still as stubborn as always I don’t know how long it will last. He needs to show some change and things like not being at Parkhead a day after we have been leathered for example is one of them.
