Re: St.Mirren vs United - Saturday 6th December

Never saw the game today or seen highlights but 2-0 away to a struggling St Mirren is the latest in a bad run.

I think bits of what I've seen some Aberdeen fans say about Goodwins spell at them beginning to come true. Remember a few of them that managed to actually put there thoughts together, rather than just screaming that he was shite, saying that he kept promising a style of football that he couldn't implement and it lead to them leaking goals. This then inevitably led to a bad run, concluding in Darvel, Hibs and his sacking.

Not going to go back searching for posts but I remember last year he claimed he was going to play a flowing 3-4-3 before abandoning it when he realised he didn't have the players, and we became drab yet effective.

He then said the same in preseason this year (allegedly inspired by Bayer Leverkusen IIRC), signed the players to play it, and got rid of the drab, effective players of last year.

He's now failing to implement this supposed flowing style again, but doesn't have the fallback of having the players necessary to go back to what worked previously. Or, at the very least, without upsetting players we must've made promises to RE "sign for us, we're going to play open football, you'll look class and go down to England to make £££".

I've spoken in support of Goodwin many times over the years but I'm really concerned about how he's going to turn this around.

Re: St.Mirren vs United - Saturday 6th December

Watched Sapsford's one on one a few times now.

Although he should do better it is quite evident he is looking up and thinking he'll square it to Moller, who is fucking slow as fuck at getting up and even near the box.

Any other United attacker gets up there and at least gives Sapsford another option.

I think we need to start realising we are in a relegation battle now.

Re: St.Mirren vs United - Saturday 6th December

I've been saying for months on here that we are a definite bottom six team, which needs to try and stay out of the bottom two.
There are a lot of issues with the team however a decent keeper and a CM who makes himself available to receive the ball would make a big difference.
Hopefully the fans realise this and stay behind the team.  We are where we are and abuse directed at the manager and the players will make it worse.
The Derbies may well be relegation 6 pointers .

Definitely starting to get worried.

No clean sheet since September in our home win against Aberdeen.
No win since October
Lost the first goal in 9 of our last 10 games
Players who were flying in the Summer, now looking a shadow of themselves (Keresztes, Bert, Dolcek)
Other players been poor all season (Vicko, Ferry)
Both Goalkeepers making errors nearly every week
Injuries mounting up again (and to key men)
Grumblings in the support towards Goodwin again

December looks like it's going to be a very trying period.

We will find out what Jim Goodwin and the players are made of. Either good or bad.

I suspect we will go into the Winter Transfer Window realising we are in a relegation dogfight between ourselves, Dundee, Killie and Livi.

I don’t think we can wait any longer. This is not working. It’s not one thing, it’s many things. The most glaring issue for me, is the lack of cohesion within the team. They look scared. You can’t play not to lose. A defence (and particularly a goalkeeper) cannot be petrified of making a mistake. At not point, this season have we seen Iovu, Bert and KK all having a good game. Togetherness has to mean something. We don’t have it and that goes back to Goodwin.

To be successful (in most things), you need clarity, commitment and composure. We don’t have it. In his post match interview Goodwin reiterated “we need to work harder at training and create a togetherness” After four months this group of players have deteriorated.

I wanted to see Goodwin at the club and I think his achievements have to be praised. Furthermore, I really think he is genuinely a sincere individual (Dave Cormack gave him a lot of support), but when something is patently not working you change it. Leadership is about making decisions without fear of making mistakes. Procrastinating and hoping things will get better is a weakness.

What works for a group of predominantly Scottish players in terms of motivation, training and coaching is very different from a squad of 10 nationalities most of whom have English as a second language. I actually think we need a clear out of the backroom staff: Marcin (head of Sports Science) has been around St Mirren and Thistle for years. The number of hamstring injuries is preposterous. Paul Mathers? What qualifications does he have? How is he being assessed? What does he add? Bo is a luxury we cannot afford.

A particular bug bear of mine is just how long our players are absent for with seemingly innocuous injuries.

Take Dario Naamo as the latest example. We hear he has a muscle strain.

It's never just a week or two weeks, it goes on for weeks.

Why is the recovery time always so long? Are they being too cautious?

Re: St.Mirren vs United - Saturday 6th December

Hi folks, just thought I'd join as feel the need to vent.
I think Goodwin's time is up. Have felt frustrated with the style of football from day one but was certainly okay with the stability he was bringing to the club. However now we are playing poor, very incoherent football, look mentally weak and not getting results. After the Well game only a few weeks ago he talked about frank discussions, Falkirk was his last warning as far as I'm concerned and yesterday was yet another joke performance to confirm his time's up and unless things change big style I reckon we'll be relegated AGAIN. We've seen this shite script before only a few years ago.
The difference in this team to the one that started the season is shocking. How can Goodwin make them so much worse?
The 3/5 at the back makes sense if you are solid defending the box but we don't do this and it leaves us light in midfield and/or on width. Goodwin is terrified of the opposition and unless the tactics revolve around soaking up pressure and countering he is either not interested and/or unable to adapt at all.
Last thing how after all the mistakes the defence has made does Sam Cleall Harding not get any kind of chance? Apart from looking a bit raw to begin with he did well last season, scored a goal and didn't make any mistakes. Our current defence and goalies are flogging goals every single week.

Re: St.Mirren vs United - Saturday 6th December

Just watched the goals again, they’re a fucking disgrace from goalkeeper and defence.

We are so unbelievably lazy, why do our full backs not stop crosses- fucking height of laziness, the goalkeeper for the second goal man - at the territory of getting Adam’s in seriously, ferry and KK hate each other- blatantly obvious all they do to each other is bicker and moan get them both sat down and get it fucking sorted Goodwin- this has been going on for months btw. It’s

Keresztes actually looks over his shoulder and sees the goalscorer make his run, then turns back and fucking ignores him, then stands there flapping his fucking hands. 6'4 and his feet never even left the floor to try and head it clear either
