What like is this to say unchanged and no injuries
Happy days.
Come October International break will be more a nuisance than a godsend.

Team picks itself just now.

What excites me is we still have Watters, Stirton and Trapanovski to come back. That's a lot of attacking options on our hands and an opportunity to mix things up game by game.

Us having depth (particularly in the final third) is long, long overdue.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Same team, has to be.   WOnder if there is a wee concern over Ferry though?  He was limping a bit for most of the 2nd haff on Tuesday.

The game down there in the cup was our worst performance by a mile so far this season so a good chance to put that right, I have no doubt they will put our back line under a lot more pressure that Aberdeen did on Tuesday though.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

I think Paton and Campbell deserve some game time.

Oh wait.

How far we have come in a short space of time. Great credit to everyone at the club.
As the blogger guy said, there's something special brewing at Tannadice at the moment.
Don't want to get too ahead of things with predictions but if our form continues,  October could see us eating into that gap between us and Hearts.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Maybe just because I've seen it all before many times but I'm sensing a bit of over excitement with the way things are going.

I can definitely see that Jim has signed a number of talented players and this could be a good season.
However as it stands we have beaten two very poor sides .
Let wait and see where we are at Christmas .

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

hopefully the same xi as the aberdeen game unless there are any injuries but going to be a very hard game as killie are evil hammer throwers but i think we'll just about break them down. Underrated part of united's game is being able to control the game out of possession in the 5-4-1 and then transition with the wingbacks wide and narrow wingers. I wouldn't expect us to be doing much of that unless we let the opposition have more of the ball.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Hope for same team.

Keeper seems to have been told to stay on his line more. We looked much more solid like that.

I was really impressed by our attacking ply against aberdeen. Looked dangerous every time we went forward. That will be important against a team I suspect will back their own box and play dirty.

Really don’t like Kilmarnock. Hope we destroy them.

I'm not predicting trophies and glory but after Neilsonball, Covid, Melonball and some of the most average players I've seen in Tangerine I am definitely excited. Right now!

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

The goalie will be ok, he's desperately keen to atone for his Easter Road errors.
And he made some inroads on that with a clean sheet on Tuesday.
Cult hero by the end of the season.

Exacto RMS.
Unchanged, picks itself.
Superlatives all over the park.

Yeah, I’ll take stock after the first round of games.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Missed Tuesday's game, and the Hibs game so was looking forward to being back today, but after that I think I'll hand my season ticket back cause it appears I'm a bit o a jinx!

Thought Killie exploited the gaps in our system really well today, any holes left by Camara and Sevelj stepping up, one of their front men occupied it and used our extremely poor passing, particularly first half, to their advantage by hitting us constantly on the counter.

Actually thought Camara flattered to deceive a little today, a lot of nice touches but felt his choice and quality of pass wasn't great. Back three as a whole looked shaky, and because we couldnt get the ball up top, Fatah, Dolcek and Sapsford didn't get many opportunities.

Really liked the look of Moller when he came on, definitely caused problems but the balls we put in didn't have enough pace for his headers to really threaten their keeper.

Missed pen summed it up today. A bad day at the office all round but a good opportunity to bounce back against Livi next weekend at least.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Maybe thats a reality check after some of the midweek comments from the players and manager, like "thats us played hearts, hibs and Aberdeen and shown we can compete with the big clubs".  Aye well we also need to compete with clubs like Kilmarnock and St Mirren who do the basics well.

First half there was no urgency, felt like everyone was waiting for someone else to dp something, and far too slow moving the ball from one wing to the other.

Second half, their second goal was coming almost from kick off.

Final point, our set pieces were brutal today.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

A bit flat all round, we weren't that bad Killie weren't that great, they took their chances.

Sevelj should score at least one of two chances, Sapsford shouldn't miss a pen. Eskenen should've scored.

We'll get days like these, or find Killie are this season's bogey team./

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

They say if a weeks a long time in Politics, then it's an eternity in football, and going by today never has a saying held so much weight.

Truly awful today, shockingly so.

Why do we always seem to play so poorly against Kilmarnock? I feel like every game against them is a carbon copy.

Really flat, insipid and sluggish football today. Only two players who get pass marks are Kucherenko and Stephenson.

A few had their worst ever game in a United shirt (Ferry, Sevelj, Sapsford), but in truth no-one was good.

The poster Stillliving said after the Aberdeen game that some of our fans were getting carried away a bit, and you would have to say after today that rings true, unfortunately.

Btw, just a little thing but a lot of our fans were saying our bench looks really strong now. For me looking at it today there is still not a lot there in terms of bringing on someone who can change the way we play. You have Moller who's a bit different, but other than that let's be honest there were no players today who we could bring on who were going to be 'game changers'.

Badly need Ross Graham and Max Watters back fit and in this team. I'd also hold fire on sending Owen Stirton anywhere when he's over his injury. I think our need for him could be greater than Airdrie's. Certainly looked good anytime i've seen him play for us and like he can impact the team positively and offer something different..

As i say, i think we still need a bit of depth on the bench, compared to currently with a couple who are just benchwarmers.

Really disappointing stuff today, but maybe an important 'wake-up call' also. Interesting to see how we react to this defeat.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Perhaps we were flat but our centre halves were bullied today by a couple of hammer throwers. Bruce Anderson was shocking but on another day we could have scraped a draw.
Onwards and upwards, Arabest

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

The only positive today was the keeper.
Some very good saves , dealt with crosses well and was one oc the few showing any urgency.
I'll just focus on one negative
Our two man midfield is there to be exploited by tactically astute teams, like Killie.
I'm not anti Sevelj , however I've said it before when under any pressure he lacks composure and dosent have the passing range to be effective.
Camara is better at breaking up play not linking with the strikers.
I said one negative so I will stop there.

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

Tbh I'm at a bit of a loss to explain that result today. How can we go from having intensity and goal threat to looking like we couldn't score if we played til midnight?
Some very flat individual performances and even the players getting pass marks couldn't lift us. It's not like Killie were great, they didn't need to be because we were utter dross.

And has transfer speculation had an effect on Will Ferry? He's so inconsistent at the moment.

Transfer speculation? In September?

It's no secret that Vancouver Whitecaps want him. I expect them to come back in when their next transfer window opens (January 31st).

Re: United vs Killie - Saturday 27th September

I have to confess, this is that first time (in a long time) I have seen Killie at Tannadice. I was really impressed with their fitness levels and general approach. Certainly in the first half we seemed sluggish, but their first goal was excellent. Deceptively we had 58% possession. It didn’t seem that way to me. Ultimately games are won and lost on small margins. Onwards and upwards.

One final thought: The referee actually had a good game. Quite unusual.

Well that may be so but we are in September so his mind should be on his current club. Im fairly sure it is tbh. As soon as we have a bad performance people start making assumptions about whether the players have their mind on the job. He was excellent in the previous game (as was everyone ) so I hardly think his mind is elsewhere.
