I think Goodwin may go 451 like he did against the ugly sisters last season.

Sapsford Pappoe Sibbald Camara Dolcek
Watters

This would be my 11. 352. Keep it tight and counter when we can.

Thinking about this from their point of view maybe they would have hoped for a proper minnow, not a club with a European history no matter how long ago that was. And knowing that if they don't finish the tie in Vienna they're going to face a packed and noisy Tannadice next week.
Also they won't have any real idea of how we may play over there and the fact that our new players are not on video from games together last season and it all might be a bit unpredictable.
Maybe I'm talking our chances up a bit. I predicted a 2-0 defeat on the Predictor league but if we could keep it to a single goal 1-0/2-1 you just never know.

That might well be how we line up.
A couple of alternatives though. The first is 451 with attacking players within the 5 who can come out to support the 1 up front eg
Iovu
Esselink
Keresztes
Ferry
Sevelj
Sibbald
Pappoe
Camara
Dolcek
Sapsford 60 min
Watters 30
Or, very left field, unlikely as fuck, 4141 with Sam CH working across the back line as a sweeper type.
Svelje
Iovu
Esselink
Keresztes
Cleall-Harding
Pappoe
Sibbald
Camara
Dolcek
Watters/Sapsford minutes each.
The latter hasn't been tried so that is never happening. Probably ever. It probably will be Lars lineup but I'm not sure we need a formation with two up front.

Ross Graham, Ryan Strain and Kristijan Trapanowski are all out long-term.
Austria Under-21 winger Nikolaus Wurmbrand is among those missing for the home side"

My one main hope for tomorrow night is it doesn't go the way of Scotland performances in major tournaments.
I.e. a complete mismatch, embarrassment and then we get subsequent well-meaning but condescending posts like 'what a support you guys were, really loud' and the whole things just boils down to a piss-up in a City Square and airport selfies for those who travelled.
We had that sort of humiliation in Alkmaar and tomorrow night i want to see a United side who are worthy of wearing the badge on the continent. I want to see a professional, confident performance an obvious game plan and an attempt to also get forward and score.
These are huge nights for everyone with Dundee United in their heart, from the supporters in the stands in Vienna to the guy glued to a wireless doing the nightshift, to the two and three generations of family sitting watching it on the telly.
Mon United.

Rapid's Press conference.
Very interesting. They seem to think United are very physical, they mention it numerous times.
They are giving us massive respect and have done their homework regards us it would seem. They talk about our games vs Una Strassen specifically.
They have a translator (who's Scottish).

Well put.
I'll be the guy on nightshift checking his phone for the score every two minutes but I'm recording the game to watch when I get home in the morning. I hope to fuck it's worth waiting all night for!

The 'very physical' comment is the standard completely uninformed comment foreigners say about Scottish teams. The cunt has probably never seen us play. It's shite anyway, not just about United, but Scotland in general, we're the least physical/aggressive footballing nation going due to poor conditioning.

He's saying we're a physical threat from set pieces, which is perfectly correct.

That's how I took it too.
Something Rapid struggle at. They conceded a header from a corner at home to Decic.

I'd definitely play KK then. Height he got for the goal in Differdange was quite impressive. Makes me think he'll go with the 3 CHs. We've got more pace in their now compared to last season.

Mon United.
Excellent post.
The only thing I would add to that is I want to see bravery on the ball, and channelled aggression in the tackle. Don't stand off them.
And maybe a wee bit of the dark arts when necessary, eg if they have a fast forward looking like he's going to cause us problems take turns at bringing him down.
Take yellows where necessary and fight like tigers.
Who knows, surprises have happened before, let's be one.

It was Iouvo who scored in Luxembourg but get the point.

Stoger is not an uninformed foreigner. On the contrary he is hugely experienced. Apart from managing a host of Austrian teams he has managed FC Koln, Borussia Dortmund and Ferencvaros. He will have done his homework on us.
I think we need to play to our strengths. The defence will very simply have to play better than they have ever played thus far. If we concede an early goal, we will need to reset very quickly.
On the positive side, the pressure is on them. Even if it ends 0-0, I still think we will struggle at Tannadice. I actually think we need to relax. I think an Ivan Golac “walk in the park” might be a good idea.

One of our all time great European results given the context, maybe 14 fit "first team" players, a goal down twice, 2 cracking goals. The first well made and the second an unbelievable finish.
Sibbald, Sapsford and Goodwin in particular can all take a bow

Colossus performance, sapsford and sibbald absolutely brilliant. Thought the Croatian on the wing when he came on was miles better.
Pappoe injury looks horrendous, looks like his season could be done.
We need signings in ASAP, really need to push the boat out now to get targets in. Our squad is completely depleted

An away performance in Europe genuinely reminiscent of the great United 80's sides. It's no exaggeration.
Every player a hero.

Let's get the concerns out of the way first.
On our left side we looked vulnerable all night. We need to strengthen there for the second leg.
Second off, we're running out of players. Take note Mr Ogren! Urgently.
The positives, I could write for days and break the internet. Sapsford especially, listened to his interview there, he's got ice in his veins. Watters, boy stands between the posts and scores goals eh?
Camara is giving Sibbald confidence and vice versa. I'll leave that there. And that back 3 are fucking immense.
Keeper done great too.
Woohoo, now destroy Hearts on Sunday boys 🧡

Eh missed the twa Una Stubbs gehms we being on holiday.
Didna think RV were brilliant. Their passing was very good, I'll say that, but we made their possession better by giving the ball away too often.
Great effort. Great result. Tak that any day oe the week. Looking forward to next week.
Of course we've got the Jambos to deal we 1st on Sunday,
