Rapid Vienna might well do to us, what we should do to Strassen.
Nice position to be in though.

But....
First and foremost. Let's just beat Una Strassen first.
Oh, come on Tek,
That was 1984 with a legendary team. We reached the Semis of the European Cup, that year. We lost 2-1 in Hutteldorf then managed a 1-0 win at home.
It will be a brilliant away trip irrespective to the result.
Was anyone there (Hutteldorf) in 1984?
Let's concentrate on Strassen first eh?

As you say nice position to be in. Not the draw we would have chosen but these new players are not the pussies who smirked with self importance as they got on the private jet for the Alkmaar tie.
So let's take care of business on Thursday.

I'm aware.
My point is they were still a far bigger team than us back then as well.
40,000 fans at the away leg in Vienna.

I think United will have done well just to take part in 2 different European ties. Hopefully we’ll make some decent money on the back of it and it would be great for this to happen on a more regular basis like it did when I was a young man.

Like us Rapid are not what they were, they're in the Conference for a reason.
Red Bull and Strum Graz are by far the big boys in Austria now, I'd be more concerned if we were drawn against Utrecht who were also in our pot.

Another 120 tickets released in Jerry Kerr, believe we have now sold over 11,000 home end tickets for tomorrow

You are correct. That said, Rapid is Austria's most successful club and have never been relegated from the Bundesliga in their history. They won their last title in 2007/2008. United won the title only once (1983) and have been relegated several times since. Contextually a victory over Rapid would rank up there with beating Barcelona or reaching the European Cup Semis.

Found a world football ranking site which has them at an equivalent level to hibs - so although it'd likely be a tough task, I don't think its an impossible task, should we get past una strassen

For the guys travelling, that don't have a ticket next week - what's your plans on Thursday?
We're not sure if it's worth going down to Differdange as there doesn't seem to be a lot down there - and so far I've seen nothing about a fan area/square we can group in like we did in Amsterdam/Alkmaar.

Was told last night that as things stand there's absolutely no plans in place for any sort of fan area set up, I don't think they have given much consideration to how many ticket-less fans are travelling, I bet united are unaware as well.
Also, looking at their ground, it's on a par with Gussie Park, I hope drunken exuberance doesn't kick in and folk might try to scale the fence/or force their way in.

I'm concerned that there are a hell of a lot of people who will be travelling but don't have a ticket. I suspect there might end up being some 'home' end tickets up for grabs for a price before the game but can't see that accommodating all. If predictions of up to a 1,000 people without tickets are correct, coupled with a day on the sauce there is the potential for issues.

It is a bit of a concern, definately.
To be fair, there were a lot of people in Alkmaar without tickets as well and as far as I recall, there was no trouble started by United fans. Although, I do agree that with the perceived lack of boundaries at the ground - there's potential for some to make arse of it.
I think Uniteds officials would be very naïve to think there's not 1000+people travelling without tickets and surely they would have notified the relevant people in Luxembourg. Would be disappointing if there's not something organised like last time (which was fantastically run on both days by the way) but on the other hand, lots of pubs would end up making a killing next week.

Not sure that the game will be on tv in pubs. There are a few pubs set up for sports watching in Luxembourg, but not many (and they are not big) so even if it is broadcast they won't accommodate 1,000+ That is going to encourage folk to venture down to Differdange where they may be even more disappointed...

Who’s booked up for Vienna?

Anyone know the additional cash from UEFA for reaching the 3rd Qualifying round?
I'm thinking the profit from the home tie (I know its the second leg) will pay towards the club trip to Vienna but maybe the wee bit extra from UEFA could go towards attracting a really good striker.

375,000 Euros, minimum (UEFA money).
That's before ticket sales and potential tv revenue.

Have to disagree with your last paragraph. As someone who was at all the games v Barca, Roma, Borussia, Gothenburg, I can honestly say that beating Rapid Vienna in the Conference League wouldn't even come close to being a comparison.

That’s why I said “Contextually”
1984/87 was pre Sky, pre Bosman. Scottish teams were feared, managers weren’t sacked every season, there were no Academy’s, etc etc. Ok you understand. It was a different time.
My point is, all other things being equal, for our current team to knock out Rapid would be a monumental achievement.

Do hibs drop into the next round of the conference? Im guessing not, just like us against AZ 3 year ago

Yeah, cheers TEK .
Off the UEFA website
'Second qualifying round elimination: €350,000 + €175,000 per qualifying round played
Third qualifying round elimination: €550,000 + €175,000 per qualifying round played"
So if we go out v Rapid our prize money alone would be
€900,000 or circa £780,000.
Not great but better than not competing like our noisy neighbours.
