I wouldn’t be against us hijacking that move. We need more creativity.

If we want him, he’ll pick us over the fun every day of the week.

Agree on all counts. Goodwin claims we are going to be much more possession based this year. If that is true he would be ideal. Just have a nagging doubt Dhanda and Babunski type players don’t fit into JG’s style of play.

I don’t think they generally do either, but Goodwin has shown himself to be adaptable, and we should set up differently against different teams. We need a lockpicker and someone that can curl one in from distance against teams that set up in a low block against us. Dhanda would give us that.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

We can't afford his wages, so would have to be a loan, fuck loaning someone from a direct competitor who can't play v them.

And that's before we consider if he fits in with Jim's system/tactics.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

From the limited times I've saw him play, Dhanda seems a very talented player, wonder why its not worked for him at Hearts.   Perhaps seen as a luxury type player.

I'm sure our loan quota is full, permanent signings only unless we terminate any crooked loans contract.

We can bring in one more on loan. Naamo doesn’t count towards the quota as he’s U-21. We do need to be careful about who we use that last slot on though. Or we just trigger the option on Dolcek and/or Kerestes now if we need to. Early days but both look good enough that we’d probably want to keep them longer term anyway.

This is quite obviously Jim’s agent feeding this to the media to get United to offer him a new deal, which we probably should in fairness to him. He’s more than earned it, and we’re now seeing the benefit of sticking with a manager longer term instead of changing them every season. The last couple of years, including the Championship season btw, has been the best period following United since the Houston days.

We squeezed and I mean squeezed into 4th place at the end of last season. It was awful albeit with a glorious conclusion.
We've had two narrowest wins against a European minnow, a draw against a newly promoted team in the league and a commendable plucky draw against a considerably bigger Euro team.
But wait until Friday and then a good bit longer before discussing any contracts, I think we're just getting a little carried away with ourselves.
This might sound negative but I'm too long in the tooth not to know that you're only as good as your last game.
And neither am I denigrating the importance of managerial continuity.
I hope Jim Goodwin is here for the duration but it's going to have to be tough.

Squeezed in after spending the entirety of last season in the top 6 as a newly promoted club? You complain about it being awful, but I guarantee you there’s not a single fan base in the country who don’t moan about their style of play. That’s just Scottish football, it’s miles behind other leagues technically.

We’ve got a manager that’s gotten every last drop out of the players at his disposal ever since the relegation. We’ve massively overachieved last season in relation to the budget. He’s tactically astute, has a good eye for a player, has rebuilt 3 squads now, and the players always seem motivated and give everything for him. We’re not gonna get much better than that, and I certainly wouldn’t be chucking that away for some of the options that are out there.

Re: Summer Transfer Thread 25/26

You get the results/position you deserve that the points on the board dictate, that's all that matters.

No sheep shagger cares that Celtic basically chucked the final because the keeper punched one in his own net, or that Celtic had 70% possession, or Maeda missed a one on one, or that Aberdeen were probably the worst team in the league from About November onwards.

Now this is not a post to say give Jim a deal, it's just I find that post winning the championship with a big points haul, rebuilding and getting us top 6, Europe and now winning our first tie in 28 years, there's still a section of our fanbase that say "but......!"

We'd all like it to be more entertaining, but it's a results business, bar about 7 games under McNamara and half a season under Houston, it's not been great to watch since thew days of Oloffson and co.

How do you 'squeeze' in to 4th? We gathered enough points across 38 games that made us end up finishing 4th. Simple as that... Weird post.

That’s basically what I just said.

I was punting out the names that fully got me on board with Jim after questioning him for a while. He signed a squad good enough to walk the championship in the end. He added to that squad to get us top 6 & Europe/4th place. He’s now got rid of the dross & has added quality over quantity. I don’t think last season’s squad gets that point.

I know some fans may still question him but these last 2 seasons and this pre season has been like watching United under Levein & Houston minus the cup runs. That’s what we need next off of Jim.

This seems to have been confirmed by haugesunds sporting director:

https://www.footballnorge.com/posts/dundee-united-snap-up-versatile-midfielder-from-haugesund/

Since joining Haugesund in 2022, Eskesen has made 82 league appearances for the club. He has been an important and consistent presence on the pitch, contributing significantly to the team’s performances. Unfortunately, he has been sidelined since early July due to an injury, which has delayed his involvement this season.

You couldnt write this could you...

David Ornstein reporting it via The Athletic as part of a bigger piece about Liverpool. All on that side at the moment, nothing from Burns or Temple so far.

Great news if true, though. If only we'd done it a week earlier he could have been in contention for Thursday night. Will be a welcome addition on Sunday if we get it done in time.

Scott Burns pouring a bit of cold water over it, saying nothing has been 100% agreed yet, and we would need to free up a loan slot once they do give us the green light.

Still sounding likely, but doesn't appear to be a done deal.

All the Liverpool online blogs saying it's happening but they're all quoting the same source so it depends if that source is accurate.

I was sceptical that he'd return but it would be fantastic if we can make it happen.
