DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

What XI and formation would you deploy for Saturday?

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Phone in seek, take the 0-3.

I'm afraid we'll be blown away on Saturday, probably a sore one 4 or 5 nil.

Play the reserves, we don't have an earthly.

The big game is against St Mirren.

If finishing 5th is the extent of our ambition then the St Mirren game is important but after Celtic we have Hibs, is that not important?
I'm one these eternal optimists that believes we can get a result against either of the Glasgow two and we got a point in a hard fought rearguard action 0-0 v Celtic at Tannadice in December. So it's not impossible.  Unlikely yes.

When we set up to defend against Celtic they normally find a way to goal and without a good outball option and a way to attack them it makes getting a goal difficult. I'd be tempted to try something a bit different this time. I'd start 4411 with Trapanovski told to stay right on top of Carter Vickers the whole time. Middleton behind Trapanovski for pace on the break out. Fine, if it doesn't work bring Dalby on.

Walton
Strain Manny Graham Ferry
Svelj Doc Sibbald Babunski
..........Middleton
................Trapanovski

What have we got to lose? Well there's goal difference to consider. Could be important if we go level with Aberdeen into the last game. Dare to dream.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Leaving Dalby out would be a huge call but can definitely see your thinking. He doesn't have pace and the Celtic defenders are excellent in the air.

I was a bit tongue in cheek with the play the reserves comment, but it'll take a hell of a performance to get anything. I suppose we can take some inspiration from the fact Celtic failed to score in two games across 180 mins at Tannadice and McDiarmid.

I'd love it if we could take the approach Dundee did when they drew 3-3 with Celtic, properly went toe to toe with them. Clearly that would be a recipe for disaster though and our only real hope is to keep it super tight and try and show some bravery in possession when we do have it.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

By far our best ( maybe only) chance of scoring against them is through long throws and set pieces.
Celtic are good at many things but I wouldn't agree that their defenders are good in the air.

Agreed.  Play our best team and try to take the game to them as much as makes sense.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Aim 1: To absolutely minimise any reduction in goal difference.

With that in mind draw or at worst going down 1 v 0 especially bearing in mind SSB's play Hibs and superior  goal diff v SSB's is worth a point in the wash up.
We've shown we can nick the draw against them with our defensive masterclass earlier in the year and a draw wins them the title.

Aim 2: Win.   What we've successfully done all year - tight at the back hit on the counter for the full 90+. Can't see why Jim would be telling them anyyhing else.   Oh aye and give Jota a right good kicking (no that I could possibly say that nowadays).

And remember oldie but goldie - champion team beats team of champions.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Ross Graham apparently still gonna be missing for a fortnight.

That's a real blow. We have zero luck with injuries.

This is why we need more depth next season.

Like the formation and the selection is about as good as we have to pick from.

It's a real shame that our already thread bare squad has been stripped back to the bones since the end of the January window.

Most starting 11 would have had Stephenson, Graham or Holt.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Twenty minutes before we kick off against the fastest team in the league to recover possession and I'm seeing Campbell starts. How is that fucking possible! Is he wanting to embarrass us on live TV?
Bizarre from Goodwin today with Paton listed too.
Not happy at all. I can see us shipping 5 or 6 today.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

We could easily ship 5 or 6 with our best team out, all knocking their pan in, If Celtic fancy it, they'll score as many as they like, that's the reality.

|'d have dropped Ferry as well, he's a yellow away from a ban.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

HT 0-3 Sibbald doing a good job man marking McGregor and we started ok.
Ironic that they scored their first from a set piece, any confidence we had just evaporated.
Paton been offside 3 times so far. Had 2 pathetic
daisy cutter shots.
Campbell is us playing with 10 men in a suicidal 433
After a good start we're all over the place. Gallagher and Holt sadly missed, Svelj doing his best but the partnership with Manny has no steel.
Terrible from Goodwin. Terrible. What was he thinking.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Truly bizarre line-up from Goodwin.

Gallagher should be at the back, Sevelj should be in midfield.

Campbell should be nowhere near a football pitch.

Awful, insipid stuff.

And there is the 3rd just as i type. This could get very bad.

I'm really pissed off because 99% of the fans can see that Campbell is hopeless. How is Goodwin seeing something different? It's hard enough playing Celtic with 11 but nearly impossible with 10.
Suicidal lineup and it's almost certain we're going to get further embarrassment in the second half.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Literally falling apart at the seams as the first half ends, Goodwin opts to start the second half with the same 11.

Left when the 3rd goal went in. Utterly horrific line up from Goodwin.

2 protests from them. Get their allocation fucking cut.

0-5
64 minutes
3 subs
1 Campbell still on the pitch
Deary me

Goodwin deserves praise for what he's achieved this season but this is shocking from him. Completely inexcusable.

Fucking embarrassing from Goodwin today, negative shite fucking team and an utter humiliation on the cards. I don't care what we've achieved this season, that today is fucking unacceptable!!!

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Hands up I never went today, seen the movie far too many times, can't do it anymore.

Seen the team at kick off, decision vindicated. Totally agree with the comments above from ADS, TEK and Redford, shocking and completely unacceptable.

How we bounce back from this I don't know, not the defeat to Celtic but the manner of it. Aberdeen went on a shocking run after their final pumping, Dundee went on a disastrous run also after they got it.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

That was atrocious today.

From the starting line-up to the awful defending and goal keeping to Goodwin not changing anything at half time or indeed the formation to seeing they cunts celebrating in our stadium everywhere including in the Hospo boxes (Wtaf?).

The Minutes Silence for Pope Francis really annoyed me too. No disrespect to the man intended, but we wouldn't have held that if we were playing anyone else. We've allowed Celtic to dictate that to us, alongside everything else. Totally fucking sick of bending over to they cunts.

On the pitch -

Gallagher not playing was eye opening. Now i'm not sure how true this is, but there are murmurs on Twitter that he has told the club he needs an operation and would have put himself through the pain barrier if he was getting a new deal, but as he isn't he's not wanting risked. If this is true and i say IF then this is wholly unacceptable that we have found ourselves in this type of situation twice in four months, albeit it's slightly different to the Kevin Holt situation.

Goodwin needs to learn from this and next season state with absolute clarity that he will not discuss any contract talk until our season is concluded (or at the very least until our aims for the season have been met). Players sign a contract and should be available for selection until the day they no longer take a wage. It's as black and white as that , for me. Now we have gotten ourselves into a situation he's unplayable for all intents and purposes. Again, if true.

Allan Campbell playing the entire match to me was mindblowing. I am struggling to recall a player who looks as disinterested as him. He offers nothing, nothing at all and seems to be going through the motions. Play Babunski, Fiorini or literally anybody ahead of him. They can't offer any less.

Ruari Paton again offered nothing.

Yes, Celtic are the best team in the country and yes, there is a huge financial gulf between the clubs, but that was fucking awful today. We need to be much, much better than that. Celtic have lost three domestic games since New Year and i've also seen Dundee go toe to toe with them this season, stick three past them and come within a whisker of beating them.

We seem a million miles from them. No goals scored in the four contests against them, and haven't looked like scoring.

A sobering afternoon.

Re: DUFC v Celtic - Saturday 26th April (12.30 PM)

Half an oor in and we're facing up to them, probly the better side TBH then it turns grim. Nae other word fir it.

Disna matter wha yer playin, ye should be able to score at least a goal at yer Hame grund. (The Rubber Johnies managed it)

Lost coont oe the number oe times that Campbell gave the ba awa.

They're moaning aboot the price oe the tickets, then thir spendin £7 on bas and bowls oe fruit to throw awa. And HTF did they get the bas in. Were they ah wearing wifies wigs to look like underage pregnant lassies. If ye waant to protest, then jist dinna come. Wonderin how many oe these sickos spent money came thru to Dundee and didna even go to the gehm.

TBH left at 80 mins. Theyve won the Title here too many times. I wasna wanting to witness that. Was on the other side oe the Law aboot the time themfinal whistle woulda sounded, and thankfully never heard a thing.

Goal difference phucked.
