Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

We've pulled a draw from a defeat, win from a draw plenty of times this season, tonight our luck ran out, kinda.

It hurts because a cup run would've been good, more so with it being them.

But if we're being honest it's a run of games will the ultimate prize of being turned over by Celtic most likely.

I've suffered far too many days at Hampden, with no reward, just getting there wouldn't cut it anymore.

I agree with that sentiment.
But looking at the bigger picture the concern for me is the way we're playing for long periods in games.. Or not playing.
So he starts Dalby and Moult and then we spend the entire first half lifting high balls up to them and giving the opposition the ball back. And that seems a go to tactic for most games now. It seems like we've stopped doing in the first half what we show we can do in the last 30 minutes of matches.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

We were fucking loupin from kick off to final whistle tonight. Only Declan Gallagher got pass marks for me tonight.

Subs should have been made at half time or early second half. Too many poor decisions on the park tonight from our players. Manny had an absolute nightmare.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Shite first half once again (when's the last time we produced a good 1st half)?

Very poor goal to concede, no man covering either post and very poor marking on Murray.

Starting XI all wrong and Goodwin persevered with it too long and we never really went for it till last 15. Too little, too late.

Shite all round.

P.s. apparently Docherty's injury is a new one and not the same issue as previously, but the prognosis might not be as bad as first thought yesterday. Here's hoping because we missed him tonight.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

I think it's time to just accept Docherty is done at United.

And as much as I rate him, when we have such a tight squad, one built on the back of cost keeping, cutting costs etc having a tampon in the dressing room is something we can't work with going forward.

We were all over them second half and could have scored a few. First half was terrible though and that's on Jim Goodwin I'm afraid. He's got to start playing from the first minute of the game not just the second half. Gutted to be out but based on that second half I'll say it just wasn't our night.

Heard Middleton is still at Dens searching for the byline. Absolutely dreadful when he came on.

I don't think that's fair tbh, a whisker away from scoring and put at least one other decent ball in.

Also was asked to play on the right instead of his preferred left.

Another day that Trapanovski shot goes in off the post and we probably win in extra time.
If anyone is to blame tonight I blame the manager for the set up and the daft first half mindset he's allowed to happen. Oh and the hoofball as well.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Middleton was unlucky with his shot at the end and also put one on a plate for Paton, on a night when our passing left a lot to be desired.

As poor as we were over the 90, it's crazy that we haven't scored at least one tonight.

Carson has made about three top drawer saves, we've clattered the woodwork, a couple whizz a foot wide, and we have the ball in the net twice only for the ref to blow the whistle early.

I also thought we should have had a penalty for handball.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

That has to be the end of holt in the middle of the park, killed us throughout most of the game.

Really disappointing way to lose a game in that manner.

To many miles off it tonight, like the look of Paton- be tempted to through him in against rangers, Dalby is worrying me.

Cannot believe it hasn’t been mentioned, from Ross grahams second header?

looked like a absolute stone waller

Hasn't looked the same since the Wrexham speculation ramped up.

I suspect he'll be recalled later this week and that's why we've signed Paton.

Yip.

Not even a VAR check

Starting to think there is a conspiracy against us, and i'm not joking.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Simply if the ball scuffing off Holt's head then hitting his raised arm is a pen, then an arm that high in the air has to be as well.

That said, if we didn't defend like bairns in the 1st minute, then kick most of our shots straight at Carson 2nd half, then all the calls we're highlighting (a couple subjective) wouldn't be an issue.

Sportscene never even showed the first chopped off goal.

Watch Sportscene on catch-up.

They showed it and even Neil McCann admitted he thought it was a pen.

And the 'goal' Sevelj scored is actually really fucking me off now having watched it back. Why is the ref blowing so early for minor skirmishes in the box now that we have VAR? It's at best terrible officiating, at worst clear bias.

Let the play go until it's well outside the box. Unless it's clear and obvious.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

90 mins of sheer frustration, that's what it wass.

Lack of concentration from the kick off until the ball hit the net.  It just never worked for us where it counts and I think the players unconsciously know it, they just bypass our midfield, we have nobody left that will take the ball to feet and link back to front.

Second half we threw everything at them, everything and we can't fault any of them for effort,  it just never came off for us in front of goal.

Thought Jim got his selections all wrong tonight and that's not with hindsight.  Moult should have been left on the bench, it never worked for him with Dalby, he would have been a great option of required from the bench on the hour mark.

It is what it is and very disappointing, they were bang average at best but with some desperate defending and a ref that it felt like gave us nothing, we are out.

On to Sunday  JGTA.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Found most of the match very frustrating. 1st half was very poor.

Subbuteo marking fir noodle-tops goal and as Tek says, nae chunt on the back post. We'd only touched the ba once since kick-aff.

Canna believe we played we 2 up top, but couldna get a phuckin goal.
Dalby, Graham, Glenn, Trapper, Ruari, Ferry Vicko and Glenn shouldve ah had ane each.

Subs moved us up a gear, but shoulda been made at half time.

Thru everything at them 2nd half, but as Davie Blunkett says, oor luck ran oot. Looked at the stats efter the gehm. Bizarrely show us as the better side.

Disallowed goals (1 was shite officiating - McDermott the pr1ck), blocks, aff the post, saves beh Carson, misses.

Phuckin p1ssed off.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

So frustrating last night, stinking in the 1st half, (Holt has been great for us since he signed but he's just not a central mid, would rather put Kai or Miller in there) - but played our way back in  - thon ref...wow.  Battered them in the 2nd half but just could not score.  Didn't really notice the hand ball at the game but have just seen it back.  As mentioned - if Holt's is a hand ball in the league game and that wasn't?

Just want to say how proud I was of our fans last night - stuck with the team all game.

Just not our night.  On to the next one and keep the faith.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Gutted to go out of the cup to them, but think we've only got ourselves to blame.  I can understand why we keep it tight early doors in the league, but this was a cup game - you've got to win it.  You can't play not to lose it!

Goodwin must have known Docherty wasn't going to make it.  That's not a new thing and we don't always resort to Holt in midfield.  He should have started Dalby on his own upfront and left Moult on the bench and played another midfielder - probably Middleton.

When we went down a goal early doors there should have been an urgency to get back on terms and that didn't come until half way through the second half.  I was crying out for us to get the ball down and play football but that simply didn't happen - you beat Dundee by being the better footballing team - they were Cameron their best player.  We are also so predictable with the long throws - mix it up a bit - they're not that successful anyway.

The referee also needs a mention.  Simply not good enough to ref at that level.  So so many examples of his ineptitude that its not worth going into detail.  Shouldn't ref at the top level again.

That said, Jim Goodwin's got to look himself in the mirror this morning and take the blame for us being out of the cup at the first blush....

...and a grudging well done to the Dees - Docherty wiped the floor with Goodwin and their better players were better than ours.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Goodwin getting too much blame. Not a great first half but we win that game 8 times out of 10, just couldn't put the ball in the net. Dundee were very fortunate.

Re: Dundee vs Dundee United - Monday 20th January (8PM)

Doc is a good player and Captain. The stats for when he played and didn’t last season clearly showed the influence he had.

Also think a lot of our boring style this season is down to him and Sibbald being out and Babunski not being able to play as a 10 in front of those 2. Would love to see those 3 in midfield for a good run of matches.

Anyway, as others have said - doesn’t matter how good he is. If he can’t play in at least 50 % of our games and guessing as captain he is one of the higher earners - we should look to move him on and try and get a younger, fitter version of him.

Started- Manny, Gallagher, Graham, Strain, Ferry, Holt, Sevelj and Luca last night. 8 defensive players against a team were 10pts clear of. Jim also waited till the 70th minute to change anything.

He has got a lot right this season Jim but last night was utter stinking for almost 70 minutes largely due to his tactics.

Deserves a fair amount of criticism.

Aye but should also get credit for the rest of the game where we battered them. We win that 8 out of 10.
