Swanson at the top of his game was the most exciting player I have seen playing for United. Too young for the 80s to really remember it. Only one in same bracket was GMS.
From what I remember he never recovered from the night out with Goody in Glasgow. Just never the same. He was on a trajectory to playing for Scotland before that.

Funny you should mention that. I bumped into Goodwillie, with his young family almost exactly a year ago. We reminisced briefly and he told me that he still meets up with both Swanson and Russell.
I think Swanson had a pretty tough life. First he had a heart defect which required a bypass op, then his best friend was killed outside a pub by a 15yo.

Pretty sure that all lead to him ending up in the priory due to depression and constant anxiety attacks, which lead to him leaving as he wanted a fresh start away from here.
There were a load of rumours going round at the time when he was out for extended periods, a big fallout with Houston was one of them, which he then cleared up after he left United, turned out to be a lot of shite, and Houston was one of the people that got him the help he needed at that time.
Shame we never got to see him in Tangerine again, a fantastic player, one of a number of great players we had in that period, and one of many from that period who still to this day, have a great affinity and affection for United which is reciprocated from the fans.

Yeah. That is what I hazily remember. Crazy that a few wee bams on a night out can change a persons life in that way.

On Friday 14th November we once again get the privilege to take a walk down memory lane and watch Danny Swanson, Morgaro Gomis, Craig Conway and others represent Dundee United in the Scottish Masters at the P+J Arena in Aberdeen.
Love this tournament.

Jimmy Gomis still has it 😀

Jimmy and Prince back in a United midfield in 2025, would bring a tear to a glass eye.

Sheep keeper was the difference in the end.
Good showing from United though.

Strange decision not to select a Striker in the squad.

A pity, because he'd be the ideal forward in a tournament of that format.

Swap Goodie in for one of the defenders and we win this next year.

It's pretty obvious Goodie won't be taking part, for reasons that don't need to be said. Someone like Daly, Fletcher, Scott McDonald, Cadamarteri or Billy McKay would be excellent.

I wasn't seriously expecting that David Goodwillie will be in the Masters side next year, it's more a fantasy football idea based on what we were missing last night. (Goodie recreating his cup final goal, you get the idea)
Hopefully they can find a striker not too long retired and still in decent nick who wants to give up the time. Fletcher might be decent.

Maybe when he's retired. I think Ross County would have something to say in the meantime 😁

Noel Hunt would be a great choice.

Daly played last year, he was towing a caravan everywhere.
