Odada is nowhere near ready mate, think it would be disastrous to throw him into such a massive game.

I think it's going to be Sibbs and Babunski tbh, I'd also have Fotheringham or Brandon Forbes before Middleton right now.

Goodwin is in the paper saying we will be defending from the front this season, system will work as long as everyone does their job.
Only takes one lazy player and it all falls apart.
I think recent team selections tell you who won't be playing.

This is what I think Goodwin might play - playing it safe early in the game (Grimshaw in at CDM) with options to get a bit more adventurous if we're doing okay. I think he would be happy with a point from the opening game - can't blame him if that's his mindset.

I sincerely hope exactly the opposite. I want a manager fired up and a team fired up to tear the fucking arse out of the funny team. A damp squib attitude will get us a damp squib result. Honestly don't understand this mentality at all,and Grimshaw in the middle with Middleton at rwb oh my days!

Can see Goodwin going with this. Only debatable one is wide right. It’ll be Kai, or if he’s brave, Forbes

Personally, I'd play Walton a bit more centrally.

Yep this is what I'm expecting too,not my preference though as Graham is much happier on the left. Beats me why Gallagher can't handle the right side tbh

The reason why Gallagher can't play on the right of a three is because-
1. His strength is defending, that's why he is in the middle.
2. As above he can't really step out with the ball into midfield.
3. He's slow as shite and will get roasted in any sort of a race.
FWIW the above ain't a dig at Declan, I am sure he would admit the above himself but cant get caught out one on one, he is the best defender we have, the best in the air and he is also the organiser.
There will/got to be another addition to the back line.

Fair enough but can't for the life in me figure out why Jim is insistent on three at the back in this case. I get that Ferry and Strain are more suited to the wing back role but both could also play the traditional full back role too. Plus we don't even know if Strain will even make an appearance yet. Graham is so much better on the left side but will no doubt be played out of position again and with Sevelj at right wing back I fear us getting roasted down that side. Hopefully I'm miles off the mark though.

I agree with you but I think that we need give it a bit of time, I think 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 will have us defending from the front and pressuring defences. Something we were not capable of last year due to certain players constantly trying to slow things down.
Graham needs a shot on his favoured left side but it says a lot that tgd manager feels he has the ability to adapt and Holt doesn't.

It's not what I'm hoping for or what I would prefer to see, but I can see Goodwin wanting an experienced 11 on the park for the first 30 minutes that will handle the wee team coming out of the traps flying and trying to make their mark early (which I think they will do). I could even see VDS instead of Moult, so the ball sticks up front and takes a bit of pressure off our back line. If that's his approach, I can understand why he would do that. TBH, I'd be pretty happy for things still to be all square after an hour, and we can tweak things and bring on the likes of Forbes, Kai, Miller Thomson, Cheeseman etc., who will all be full of running.
I want us flying out the traps, negative mentality will bring negative results.

Ross Docherty definitely won't feature. He needs a 'bounce game' under his belt before playing again for the 1st team.
Ryan Strain's had a successful operation but will be out for approx 12-14 weeks.

I tend to agree with ADS here as I think the majority of the fans want to see Utd have a real go at them. I can understand that Jim may want to keep it tight and a boring 1-0 Utd win would be a good result but if he starts like this and we lose an early goal questions would be asked. Any other starting fixture a draw would even be acceptable but it’s a derby so atleast let’s go out to win it rather than not get beat.

Worried about the game. Our record last year without Docherty in the team was poor.
Most fans agree we should be playing high intensity, attacking football. Unfortunately it is just not Goodwin’s style. He is cautious. Gallagher is the one for me setting the tone for the slow, boring, aimless play at the back. I am disappointed he seems to still be our first pick defender.
Let’s not be negative - some of the new attacking players look really good. I would start VDS over Moult and I think we will score. Just need to keep Murray quiet and keep concentration at the back.

I am with you on your Docherty point, it was night and day when he was in the side last term. He sets the tempo and we were a lot more aggressive and quicker with him in it.
Regarding your other point about Goodwins style, I think it's fair to reflect on how teams set up against us last year, granted not every week, but most weeks, teams just sat in. It's difficult to just keep running into 2 banks of 5.
A point wouldn't be the end of the world, but 3 would brilliant to get off the a flyer and the crowd would be right behind from the start.

I think a lot of people are saying they'll be happy with a point because they can't bear the thought of losing, totally understandable. But playing for a point will result in exactly that. Get fucking stuck into these cunts and play them off the park has got to be the mentality for me. If we play with passion and high intensity and give everything we've got and end up losing I can accept that rather than some piss poor performance in trying to grind out a result and losing anyway.
