Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

Same starting XI for the 3rd game in a row?

Think it has to be, and that hasn't happened for a long time.

Morton been a bit of a thorn in our side this season, though we did beat them at Cappielow last time out.

Tough game.

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

Only doubt would be Middleton who dived into a needless 50/50 and limped off.

Hopefully the same team and if he’s fit get Gallagher on the bench.

Hopefully Grieve's injury paves the way for Rory MacLeod to take his place on the bench.

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

I think from about game 12 onwards, bar the odd performance, we've not show why we were rightly favourites to win the league and have played, dull, slow, safe football.

That was knocked on the head v Raith, then continued on Saturday.

Morton might be a different prospect physically, but there's no way should be going there afraid to play the kind of football we can, nor should we be tailoring our line-up or style for them.

What I think might play a part is Raith's result v Airdrie. If they lose or draw does safe, let's not lose Jim rear his ugly head as that then gives us a bit of a safety net?

I doubt MacLeod is going to make any contributions to our title run in mate, can't be a worse option than Grieve I suppose though.

We normally only have one Striker on the bench (Grieve). If he's injured we will need a replacement, that's all.

Fwiw i don't see why we shouldn't use him. Almost 2 years ago to the day he started against Celtic in the 1-1 draw that clinched us Europe.

Surely two years on he could contribute something in the Championship. Would definitely offer more than Grieve imo.

he was in the squad a couple of weeks ago with meekison in the stand, i would expect him to be the bench if grieve is injured.

on the subject of grieve the fact that he has a fan's song blows my mind

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

What's Greive done to incur the wrath of all Teklers?
'Not very much' I hear you say.
Needs a bit more chance, he's not a dummy.

McLeod by all accounts is a bit PNG at Tannadice which might explain we're not seeing much of him.

PNG?

P.s. 'wrath' lol. The boy just isn't a very good player and he isn't ours. I'd rather play someone who is.

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

I agree with TEK I would have McLeod on before him every day of the week.

Seen enough to gauge that Grieve ain't going to be hear beyond the summer.

not even sure he's the best option off the bench apart from 1 game against a Terrible Arbroath side

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

He'll stick with Grieve as subbie.
I'll say it again he's useful for running round like headless chicken hassling opposing defenders near end when we're a goal up, exactly how Goodwin uses hum really.
- No a lot else, his first touch dire, non existant. Tries hard - that's best you can san say.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Best results for us at Raith/Somerset.
Fri night now must win for Morton.

Gotta be same team for Morton as last 2 games. Same mentality.

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

Why am I not as concerned about Friday as I was last Saturday?

I think the way Morton play and set their team up and added to our recent success over them it's something I hope our lads will relish.

They will be playing their 3 game in six days, the boy that holds the world record for throw ins is out, Kirk Broadfoot should be playing, I am reasonably relaxed about this one.

Much more comfortable that the two young ins at the back will be focused on Oakley and will be able to deal with him.

Both our wide players have returned to early season form, Kia in particular was very good albeit against QP last week and hopefully Middleton will overcome that wee knock he picked up.

Wootherspoon is a decent option from the bench, but if called upon we really need to see more from Cudjoe. The wee guy looked lost last week.

Only decision for me is- Will Jim be tempted to play Tilson to combat some of their hatchet men in the middle? he could drop Kia and play Watt out on the left again where he had their full back on toast.

We will have a large support through again, who encourage the team on to hopefully a 7 point gap at the top.

Re: Morton vs Utd - Friday 12th April

From 1st to last minute on Friday night we back the team like Raith and QP. Let’s get them over the finishing line.
