There has to be a decent budget, there's no point going up if the plan isn't at least be pushing for top six.
The standard is pretty rotten, apart from the odd player at each club, most are chock-full of journeymen or loan signings.
Of course we may currently be overspending, but that's partly to do with how poorly we've been run the last few seasons, and the contracts we're tied into, there's a real opportunity to clear the decks here.
if It's Ogren's intention to take us up, then not allow whatever funds is necessary to be challenging or being better than half that league, then he's gonna get a hell of a rude awakening when he tries to punt season tickets.
I'm not talking about buying players, spending huge fees, but our playing budget will and should be more than most teams outwith the arsecheeks, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen.
It's all about how we spend it, we can't be chasing marquee signings (Levitt, Fletcher etc) who simply didn't deliver.
We're not up yet, just saying.Isn't the point of this thread, that it's who we would keep IF we go up, so we're talking hypothetically?
We're not likely to bin all the out of contract players, but in an ideal world, blank canvas and all that...
I'd just prefer us to get promoted first before this kind of conversation tbh

One (high earning) player will be off the books very soon, i'm hearing.
And i am in shock at the club he is supposedly going too.

Right club, but wrong player.
Mark Birighitti, apparently.

After two games, maybe one, I reckon they'll fit him up for shoplifting.

if he gets his hands chopped off he will be a better goalie

There is a part of me btw who would get rid of the lot and completely clear the decks.
That would be a lot of wages freed up to get in some better quality players to take us to the next level.
Which is exactly what we'll need.
Who out of the young players can improve enough to become useful to us? That is the only question worth asking here imo.
suppose it’ll be defined by the squad size we decide to have. If it’s around 28 that’ll leave 19 to find assuming no contracted players leave.
whos in the frame from this years 18s to move up, Mcleods already accounted for., is looking for 19 new players a starter? I don’t think so.
Will there be a B team? don’t know.
im sure most squads will have a few water carriers, players unlikely to feature in the match day squad but needed to make up the numbers for training.
even if we want to extend players I suspect some may want to move on anyway.

Obviously a full rebuild is needed, almost an entire squad to recruit.
Do we trust Goodwin to be the one to do this?
Offline
Not really sure it’s about trusting Goodwin to do it or not as I can’t see him being replaced anytime soon and even if he was, who from the usual candidates that would apply would fill you with confidence that they could be trusted either?

I think your over estimating the bottom end of the premiership.
recently in the cup Airdrie beat St Johnston and Patrick beat Ross Co we wont need much added to be competitive.

Walton, Sibbald and Moult. IF we go up. The rest would take us straight back down.

If we get promoted:
In:
Sibbald (maybe).
Out:
Birightti
Walton
Freeman
Graham
Holt
Mcmann
Tillson
Glass
Charmers
Mochrie
Meekison
Cudjoe
Sadat
Moult
Greive
Time to build a real squad.

The list below are all current DUFC players who's contract will be up in the Summer. Who would you keep out of the list, if any?
Jack Walton
Mark Birighitti
Ruairidh Adams
Kieran Freeman
Ross Graham
Kevin Holt
Scott McMann
Flynn Duffy
Craig Moore
Layton Bisland
David Wotherspoon
Craig Sibbald (appearances close to triggering new 1 year extension, however)
Jordan Tillson
Archie Meekison
Declan Glass
Chris Mochrie
Mathew Cudjoe
Lewis O'Donnell
Bryan Mwangi
Alex Grieve
Louis Moult
Logan Chalmers
Sadat Anaku
Miller Thomson
That's a whopping TWENTY FOUR players out of contract. All have been involved in either first team or first team squads.
Meaning that the only senior players left on the books as of June will be-
Jack Newman
Luke Grimshaw
Declan Gallagher
Glenn Middleton
Ross Docherty
Craig Sibbald (almost certainly)
Tony Watt
Kai Fotheringham
Rory MacLeod
NINE players left with first team experience. Though two of them with very little (Newman and MacLeod).
We would need the biggest overhaul of players and the biggest Summer recruitment campaign that the club has possibly ever faced.
Back to my original question. Who would you offer a new deal too, if indeed anyone?
Sign Walton if poss
Keep sibbald, holt, mcmann, Lewis odonnell, mochrie, Thompson, wotherspoon (think he will come good), Moore (bizarre he’s not really had a chance after ibrox)
Rest can go for me

This thread needs to be put on hold until we see what division we are playing in next season.

Not really.
Would you keep any players on next season in the Championship who couldn't get us out of this league, if that scenario plays out?

Can't you just say who you would only keep if we stay down then 🤷🏻

Agreed about Freeman and Glass, regardless of division.
Would possibly keep Meekison, Mochrie and Thompson in Prem, but would only be up for offering them 1 year deals. Same goes for Holt and McMann.
Doubt any of the above would accept a 1 year deal. In which case i'd cut them all loose.

Additional year to Sibbald, Docherty Gallagher and maybe Middleton but boy he needs to fo more (he's capable of it).
New contracts got Holt ( well deserved), Moult and McMann.

Agree mostly with those we keep, but not sure about Moult - would be another 1 year deal max for me.

I think he will come good, the thing I like about him is that at least he's getting into the positions to miss chances. Hopefully he start banging them in, starting with next Friday.
I should have also added that the young guys that haven't played a lot of 1st team games that I am not sure about. Just not seem enough but I trust Goodwin with signings, he's not got many wrong with the limited budget he has had compared with the last few managers/sporting director who have squandered millions on shite.
