I'm not interested in Liverpool. Only DUFC.

Amusing, but we all knew which parts of the park we are light on players last year and with 16 leaving and only 2 new faces (which on the face of it cover some of the known gaps) it is pretty clear that we are still in need of players to fill those gaps. JR recognises this and is presumably doing what he can to correct it within the budget he has. Win, lose or draw in a friendly is irrelevant to the fact that we still need 3/4 new faces as a minimum.
Klopp on the other hand could probably field 3 totally different teams that would comfortably beat us.

Friendlies are designed to work out systems, check out youngsters progress, play trialists etc etc etc results and scoreline do not matter, anyone getting hung up on friendly results really need to follow another sport.
As for Ogren, he's invested in the business that is Dundee Utd, money comes in to the club from various means not just transfers. Sponsorship, tv deals, hospitality, room rentals, season tickets, advertising and merchandise to name a few.
Ogren making the club more attractive on and off the pitch is how he makes money, he's clearly doing that and whether he gets full returns now or in future is none of our business.
What is our business is the returns we get for our investment and that is based on what happens on the pitch, watching pur team's passion and commitment to come from behind against County and get 4th is what matters, not beating Port Vale in a friendly certainly does not.

It's a Football Forum. Folk are entitled to a point of view that differentiates from your own.
I could say if you don't like that then maybe you need to follow another sport.
But that would probably make me look like a condescending twat. So, i will resist the temptation.

Well said Tek.
As an aside, the reason that this is by far the best United forum is that we can disagree civilly here. We don't resort to name calling and all views are welcome.
You, as host, set the tone and for that you deserve praise.

We need to change the narrative of the 16 leaving, of those who have left how many played every week?
Regulars
Benji
McNulty
Butcher (away, if rumours are to be believed)
Squad Players - Made a few starts or appeared off the bench
Neilson
McDonald
Hoti
Sporle
Carson
Of the rest
Biamou - made one appearance
Akinola - made two appearances
Several young players released at end of contract who never really became first team players
While i agree we need to see more signings of the right quality, we are not replacing 16 first team regulars. The Aussie keeper would be a decent signing and I would like to see a left back as we struggled for a replacement when McMann was out or in poor form. Another striker would be nice and some creativity either from wide or through the middle is also needed.
The timing of the change in manager hasnt helped us but for once the club were quick to react and appoint JR, hopefully we are in negotiations with a couple of players and are just keeping it quiet until they sign - you have to be optimistic.

I'm fully aware that we are not going to bring in 16 players and we shouldn't. The point was that the gaps are plain to see but despite having what was a fairly big squad last season we still had those gaps (which is down to poor recruitment in my view). Right now we have a trimmed down squad with pretty much the same gaps. We still need to sign 3/4 first team ready players minimum and hopefully in the right areas.

Forums are there for debate, I offered an opinion that folk were getting a bit OTT about a friendly result and wondered why some are 2nd guessing our owner's financial situation. How does a forum host read negativity with that?
Also don't hint about telling me to follow another sport, I pour enough money into supporting Utd, whom I'll follow til I die. I'm entitled to have a different opinion as well including those of a host who I could say posted a contradictory post but I won't

You are entitled to post your views. Whatever they are, even if they are the polar opposite of mine.
But if you are going to do so in a condescending manner, then don't be surprised if you get the same tone back.
Just some friendly advice.

Back on topic hearing were close to agreeing terms with McGrath, Shinnie a poss for midfield.
Terms agreed with the Oz goalie should be announced shortly.
Looking at a loan deal for a forward no name given.
Also Chalmers meant to have come on a lot from last year.

McGrath and Shinnie would be two fantastic signings for me. Goalie looks the part too.
Think we need a pacey forward so hopefully that is the case whenever the name appears.
I think we saw from Chalmers at ICT that he has something about him. He also mentioned having a manager who "believed in him" was the main factor in his form... maybe a dig at Tam? Got to remember he was excellent for us in the early Mellon days before that injury pretty much ended his season. Hopefully JR can get the best out of him. Even if he becomes an active squad player this season, maybe 15-20 starts and 10-15 more sub appearances then I'd see that as a big step forward for him.

I don't think i could come up with a parody account as good as AU.

Wee rumour that we do indeed want more than one player from Wigan. But it's....
Jamie McGrath
and
Jordan Jones
There's been so many rumours this Summer that it's hard to get excited anymore (as the vast majority haven't subsequently came true).
But if we somehow got both signed, even i would be happy.
Always rated Jordan Jones.

Shinnie is not long with Wigan and contracted to them for another two years.
But i have heard that rumour myself tbh,
We will see.

Think Jordan is the loan, the other 2 are meant to permanent deals

As Tek said who knows for sure, I did think Shinnie being mentioned was only due to Goodwin enquiring about McGrath and Shinnie and that double deal link has remained, McGrath being available was seen as a good option for us to explore with Levitt/Harkes situation being unclear. To answer your question, I heard Wigan want permanent deals for both and looking back, I admit my post was typed with fat fingers, it should have read McGrath OR Shinnie as possibles in midfield. Whether we are looking at getting only one is unknown but reading Tek's post it wiuld appear to be just McGrath, we are looking at Jones on loan though
Personally I cant see us getting all 3 but clubs like to do multi deals with each other similar to our Stretch/GMS with the tinks.
The fact we're looking at quality and taking a steady approach is good news though

Not too sure about Jones. Was at St Mirren last season was he not?

That’s Butcher signed for Burton
Offline
Good luck to him, done a job for us.
Right one or two in pronto please.
Midfield and Keeper.
Offline
Liked him in a Derby... probably still has baldy McGowan in his back pocket.
Doesn't sound like he's acted particularly well in his personal life (which has had an effect) on his work life - so maybe a fresh start is best all round

Been a quiet week.
Honestly thought we would have sorted out the Goalkeeping situation this week. And/or got a definitive answer from Wigan regards McGrath.
Everything seems to take forever with us.😒
