massive season defining game

I think we will go 3-5-2.
Same backline and front two as Hearts.
Midfield Mochrie dropped for Mcdonald and Niskanen dropped for Freeman.
Hes got no options other than possibly putting in McNulty for either Clark or Watt (shudder).
The recruitment drum has been beaten to death recently and the fact we played so bad on Sunday and can only really make two possibly three changes says it all and even the changes are made more in hope than expectation.

3-5-2 defending high, 5-3-2 / 5-4-1 defending deep, 3-4-1-2 / 3-3-4 attacking.
Eriksson
Neilson Edwards Graham
Freeman McDonald Mulgrew Niskanen
Levitt
Clark Watt
Unorthodox, maybe, but I'd rather see us go for it with a high pressing game than watch the pish of the last few months.
I'm assuming Butcher is still unavailable.

I really like that team CA.
Dylan Levitt in the No.10 role in particular is a must.

This.
And with Watt central instead of drifting inside left/right . He's getting frustrated with lack of support - little wonder.

I’d be quite happy with this but would like to replace Clark with someone else that’s not McNulty as this is too much of the same as before to expect any kind of different outcome

Agreed Tek. I'd be looking to get the ball to Freeman and Niskanen as often as possible. Guaranteed there would be cutbacks from both sides and we've seen what Levitt can do on the end of a cutback. I'd definitely have Watt and Clark as a front 2 rather than Watt playing wider. Clark for his ability in the air and Watt as a physical/diving presence and for his ability to read the most dangerous place to be. He's wasted out wide for us. I did think about someone other than Clark but my tactics would be different from Courts and would suit our forwards more, IMO. 😂 I'm also not sure which of the young lads are available.
I'd have McDonald and Mulgrew holding the centre, playing the Ranks/Paton or McInally/Psycho or Kirkwood/Holt role. Nothing gets past, win the ball and distribute it wide, or to Levitt, or over the top to Watt/Clark. Fed up watching players carry the ball 50 yards up the middle, unchallenged. I'd also be okay with Mochrie or Archie next to Mulgrew.
McMann was better last game and Liam Smith hasn't done much wrong, but we need more coming from wide IMO, so they lose out. And if Butcher became available, it would probably be McDonald that would drop to the bench.
Obviously we won't play this team, but I'm pretty confident that XI could take 3 points from Motherwell, and I'm very confident it would beat Courts' starting XI. 🙄

Tam has confirmed that Butcher has probably kicked his last ball for us this season.
Criminal to let Fuchs go and replace him with an Arsenal kid, absolute madness.

Fuchs wanted away and his performance had dropped off, but agree that his replacement was a joke signing though. It's not helping having Harkes out as well as Butcher and we are getting brushed aside in midfield

This wont be the team but I'd be going for:
Siegrist
Neilson
Edwards
Graham
Freeman
Levitt
Mulgrew
Niskanen
Meekison
Mochrie
Watt

Been totally bombed out after rejecting a loan in January.
I actually thought he looked 'ok' on the rare occasion he made a cameo.

I thought he was bang average and I can't see him having much of a career in the game.
Just add his name to the very lengthy list of flops brought to the club over the past few years.

He can't be any less effective could he, actually if anyone could, step forward Mcnulty.

Well, what can you say?
A win, 3 points and our first clean sheet in a good few weeks.
But fucking hell that was yet another grim 90 minutes to watch.
P.s. let that please be Marc McNulty's final appearance in a Utd shirt. His only positive contribution this afternoon was injuring himself.

3 points but I suppose we can't expect attacking football when he plays 6 defenders in the 10 outfield positions and expects them to create chances.

Cracking win and what joy to see so many academy graduates.
Neilson and Graham were flawless today.

Good, hard fought, but fortunate win there. Would think its enough now for us to not finish 6th but might still come down to Dingwall, depending how Motherwell get on.
Did think Neilson struggled a bit first half, was cracking 2nd half and so was Graham. Mulgrew done a job at CM too I felt. Benjis best game for a while too.
Very confused about the subs though. I thought we got weaker once McMann went off... Immis not a wingback. And what the fuck was the Sporle sub all about? Either McLeod or Cudjoe should have been thrown on.
Regardless, brilliant to get a win and a clean sheet.
*fixed some lazy spelling of names*

Neilson was really poor first half so I don't know what game you were watching. Better 2nd mind you.

Ridiculous.
Sporle will be away in a fortnight. Why not as you say give Cudjoe or McLeod a few minutes?
McMann sub weakened us and he only took McNulty off after he injured himself.
Seems so reluctant to ever give a youngster a chance in an attacking sense.

3 points was all that mattered today and I think that will be enough to qualify for Europe, well done to the management team. I will never manage to get my head round how they have managed it with that squad of players but I’m delighted, absolutely delighted to qualify for Europe.
There are one or two of us among our support who are clearly aff their nut but most of us are well aware of the areas needing strengthen to stay up next season. Every department needs massive improvements for us to stay upnever mind top 6, no chance can the standard be as bad and our recruitment department had better get the finger oot.
Center midfield is an absolute disaster area at present and Mark McNulty again looks miles off the as usual.
