Friday night under the lights live on TV..
Can see Mellon making a handful of changes for this cup game again.
For me I'd go with our strongest 11

Yep me too, GOT to prioritise the cup over dead rubber games for as long as we are in it.
Although wouldn't mind seeing Chalmers and Pawlett in from the start I have to add.

Courier this morning suggests Deniz will be in goals. Personally I’d start Benji in every game until the end of the season.
I’d go with usual back 4, Butcher and Fuchs, Appere and Chalmers out wide with Shankland and Clark or McNulty up front.
If we’re comfortable at half time I’d give Hoti 45 minutes in midfield.

I find it a bit mental that we're considering playing Deniz over Siegrist. With all respect to Deniz he is not as good as Siegrist, a capable deputy but if the number one goalie is available he should play.
This is a great chance to get to the latter stages of the cup since one of the Ugly sisters will be going out fairly early, and we should be playing the strongest possible XI to give us a chance of getting to Hampden.
Even putting aside the Trophy, the latter stages also puts much needed cash on the coffers which could help fund transfers this summer. Serious Robbie Neilson betfred Cup vibes playing any kind of weakened team.

It's the Scottish Cup and we have nothing left to play for in the league (other than trying to finish as high up as possible).
You play your strongest XI.

If he is so keen to give Deniz a chance then stick him in the league games where we are safe. I have no problem him playing against Forfar who are bottom of league 1, if we canna put Forfar away with a couple of changes then we deserve all we get... but Benji has to come in if we progress and face Sheep or Livi.
I'd play this team v Forfar if it was my choice:
Benji
Smith
Edwards
Reynolds
Robson
Chalmers
Butch
Fuchs
Appere
McNulty
Shanks

I’ll be in disbelief if he starts deniz, Mellon has already failed miserably in Betfred and if he starts mucking about with team in latter stages of the scottish cup, he will deserve every bit of criticism that will come his way
Benji
Smith Edwards Reynolds robson
Chalmers butcher fuchs sporle
Shankland mcnulty

No problem with him playing Forfar but what about the next game? It’s potentially worse for Deniz to be the ‘Betfred and early stages of the cup until it gets tough’ keeper than general back up. At least you know where you stand rather than being drafted in and then drafted out when it gets trickier.
Hypothetically, I’d be really disappointed if we went up to Aberdeen with Benji on the bench. Not read the courier so don’t know the context. We can wait and see

Deniz is fine for Forfar game but if we progress then it has to be Benji. I also agree Deniz could get some game time in the remaining league games .

I'm ok with Mehmet in the dead rubber league games.
But in the Scottish you always play your strongest XI.
Only piece of silverware we can win. However slim a hope that is.

Just checked Arab Archive.
Unbelievably this is the first time we have played Forfar competitively since March 1987.
When we needed a replay to finally dispose of them 0-2 away in the Scottish Cup after snatching a 2-2 draw against them at home.
Even the away replay was a struggle.
Forfar missed 2 penalties in the match.

Last game Deniz played, Thistle played a long ball over the top. Edwards was sprinting back and was comfortably getting to the ball well ahead of their striker. Reaches the ball close to our D and is looking to play the ball back to Deniz, who should be on his line and closer to the post on the side of his stronger foot. Edwards would then play it back, just wide of the goal, and Deniz would clear. Absolute basics and job done. Instead, Edwards is ready to play it back, and realises Deniz is right on top of him at the edge of the 18. They both hesitated and the ball was almost coughed up for what would have been a tap-in to an empty net.
That's the second time that has happened in the last 2 or 3 games Deniz has played in. That's not even a communication issue - it's basic goalkeeper decision-making.
I thought Deniz looked very capable initially, but in his last few appearances, there have been several decisions that have had my arse making buttons. I no longer feel confident when he's between the sticks, and if Benji moves on, I'd be worried if we didn't bring in a capable replacement.
We are definitely not the same team with him in the sticks, compared with Siegrest.
Mehmet's appearances this season.
2-1 home defeat to Livi
6-2 away win at Brechin (Brechin should have scored more)
0-1 home defeat to Peterhead
1-0 home win v Kelty (no saves to make)
0-0 draw at St.J (fairplay he was good that night)
1-5 defeat at home to St.Mirren
And Saturday's 2-1 win v Partick.
Not great form this season from him when called upon.
Certainly not good enough to justify 'resting' Benji for him in a big game for us.

Agree.
Deniz (sorry mate) just simply hasnae and never will have Premier quality we want.
It's a must win game - they all are, be it cup or league - anyone disagrees - look at the books - every TV penny we make is vital.
Respect Forfar, don't stuff it up, play our best team to suit opposition, time to make a statement.
To me run on will include Chalmers, Louis, maybe Pawlett.
And balance that with the fact that Killie game is 5 days later.
Benji
Liam Reynolds Edwards Robson
Fuchs Butch Pawlett Chalmers
Shanks Louis

Yeah, puts things in perspective does it not?!
Barcelona were in action this week but not us.
So not much has changed for them but for us it's light years....

Not quite. We played the 2nd leg v Barcelona after the first Forfar tie. We played Clydebank in the league after the 1st leg and drew 1-1.

I was at both Forfar games , believe me it was a massive struggle, the Loons were excellent. They had a very good team round about then with Henry Hall as manager.
But hey we pumped Barca home and away.
Strongest team possible on Friday, they have been struggling of late but will be well up for this.
