Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Any team news?

Will Butcher be back do we know?

What XI would you like to see and formation?

Butcher a hamstring so I would be surprised if we see him. I'd like to see a back 4 again.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

4-5-1 is the only way I can see us getting anything from tomorrow.

Our midfield is just powderpuff and lacking in quality, I would try young Neilson in beside Powers.

Benji
Smith
Connolly
Reynolds
Robson

McNulty
Powers
Neilson
Clark
Bolton

Shankland.

Where are you hearing it's his hamstring?

Just a strain or fully done it in?

Mellon post match on Weds mate. Also confirmed Fuchs is 4-6 weeks with a knee ligament issue (so we are actually lucky with that as could have been so much worse).

Didnt mention much more about Butcher but he did say there was 'no chance' of him making Wednesday so even a good hamstring injury is at least 2 weeks I think?

I'd love to see a Harkes and Powers partnership work. They have all the attributes that point to a great partnership, but the few times they have played together, it hasnt seemed to click.

I get the feeling that we are almost guaranteed to see Pawlett in the starting 11. I dont understand why though... he offers absolutely nothing apart from lots of fouls, and dribbles every so often with no end product.

Maybe Mellon will surprise us all and chuck an academy midfield of Neilson and Davidson in. Obviously never going to happen but if Butcher and Fuchs are out then would it be any worse than the other options?

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

McNulty is apparently injured now (hamstring).

If it weren't for bad luck etc.

Chance for big Louis to get back in 1st XI.

Probably not, almost certainly be Clark and Shankland up front.  Hopefully McNulty isn’t out for long as he’s been doing quite well.

I’m talking shite! Appere starts.  Do not like the look of that line up at all I have to say, hopefully they surprise me.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Neilson doing fine.

That right hand side a real weak point for us.

Hopefully we don't wait too long to bring on Bolton or McMullan or both and go 442. Because Aberdeen are there for the taking.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Agreed Tek. They've had all the pressure but its still 0-0 and this match is there to be won. Shanks shot off the bar so close. However I dread to think how defensive we would have gone had that went in.

Lets call a spade a spade, Harkes and Pawlett is an atrocious midfield pairing. Truly awful. Maybe I'm being too critical but I reckon I could play better in centre mid than Pawlett. And I'm fucking shite.

Louis barely had a touch. Need to see more from him. Would like to see him switched to the left of the front 2 tbh. Connolly flailing about as usual. Some good blocks to be fair but he just terrifies me constantly.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Louis certainly improved the 2nd half. Good to see him back to something close to himself.

I feel like we could have made a couple of subs at the end there to have a go but we still created chances so I guess all in all we'd have taken a draw before the game so happy enough with a point and clean sheet. Considering we were without McNulty, Fuchs, Butcher and then lost Edwards just before kick off we did really well to get a point there.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

I think the 3 points were there for the taking today, they weren't that good. We defended really well.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Second half I thought we were quite good and created the better chances.  Harkes and Connolly who get a lot of stick both did well today.  Good to get a clean sheet and a point at Pittodrie is never a bad result.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Think we done allt better 2nd half.

15 mins to we should have brought on 2 or all 3 of McMullan Sporle and Bolton and we t for it. We had chances usual just couldn't score.

Next 3 games are massive for us.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Yeah we wanted Mcmullan, Sporle or Bolton on when they brought Cosgrove on but we'd of been right pissed If we want all attacking and lost.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Entertaining  0 v 0

Battled well. Near the end when Aberdeen were looking for winner, game opened up for us

Substitutions and enforced changes, Louis, Powers, Neilson worked well. As good if not better than existing first choices. Hopefully push themselves into contention. So with Fuchs Butcher to come back we're looking at a solid squad.

Harkes I thought had a good game.

Maybe Bolton for Robson whose crossing and attempted shots were shit.

Hopefully someone will take Pawlett off our hands, total waste of space.

Halfway through season, halfway up table.

Aberdeen sittin 3rd in the league and calls all over their social media posts for McInnes to go. The 21st century football fan is a right fucking idiot.

Genuinely, they're bored.
And Aberdeen being a one-team town doesn't help.

Re: Aberdeen v Utd - 2nd January (3PM)

Decent point and an improvement on Wednesday, great to see Appere back in the side and particularly in the second half he done his chances no harm of getting a regular game.

Thought we defended well and kept them at distance, Powers played well also when he came on to his credit and certainly added a bit of composure on the ball.

In front of goal it just never happened though and Robson and Shankland should have done much better when presented with good opportunities to score.

next few matches are massive and we need some new recruits in early next week would give us some options with the injury list toting up.
