What Jim achieved will never again be repeated by a provincial club that uses buttons as currency. Absolute legend, I raise my glass to the great man tonight 🍻

Not ashamed to say i have shed a few tears at that news.
Two men are responsible for my love of Dundee United Football Club. One is my Father, the other is Jim McLean. Quite simply he helped bring a bit of colour to my otherwise grey, new town upbringing.
Thanks for everything you did for our club Mr McLean.
You will never be forgotten.❤

Very sad news indeed.
A genius in his field.
We won the Title in 83, and he passed away aged 83.
God Bless you Jim. You'll have a place in every Arab's heart for ever.

Shankly , Busby, Clough, McLean, Stein and Ferguson. In no particular order! The best of the best.
Will never be repeated or forgotten. 🧡🖤🧡🖤

Absolute sickener this news tbh. In the last few months of my grandads life dementia began to take its toll on him, however one thing he could always seem to remember was McLean and the teams from the glory days. So despite not witnessing it for myself, I always felt a connection to the McLean years as United was all he spoke about towards the end. So this news is absolutely gutting.
Have to say though, it gave me the slightest hint of a smile when I noticed he died aged 83... United to the very end eh

The man who made it all possible, he made Dundee United feared all over Europe. A genius, a legend and my hero. RIP Jim.

I feel nothing i can type will emulate the greatness of the man himself.
He is the reason Dundee United are what they are today. A footballing visionary who embraced sports science years before the rich clubs did. A fantastic tactician and a man who despite all the glories remained humble and insisted the same of everybody at the club. He's a manager synonymous with work ethic, respect and entertaining football.
Although he has stepped back from the limelight, he remained and will remain as one of the 2 managers who upset the Scottish football norm and made Dundee United a household name with football fans around Europe and the world.
On a personal note, without him, I simply would not be an arab. I wouldn't have experienced the cup wins and the joys and heartbreak of supporting a real club. Perhaps I'd have turned into one of the plastic football fans who support man u, juventus or Barcelona. I only hope that we the fans can pay homage to him in some way, even in the days of tier 4 lockdown.

Iconic figure who for a long time defined Dundee United and gave me so many happy memories as a kid.
Gutted for his family to lose him at this time of year and with the covid restrictions, and also for anyone who has had a loved one affected by dementia and had to watch the decline, such a cruel disease.
Met him briefly after a win at dens in 2005, just before I left Scotland, and got to shake his hand and say thank you.

If anyone would like to send a Sympathy Card to Doris and the McLean Family they can PM me on here and i have the address they can send the card too.
Obviously, i don't want to write it up online, but it would be a nice touch if posters on here want to send her a card and write their own personal sympathies, tributes and thoughts on the great man.
As none of us , sadly, will be able to properly pay our massive respects to the man outside his funeral or at a Tannadice game. Which is upsetting.🙁

I hope that quote is put on to the walls inside Tannadice.

Club statement:
Across the football spectrum, tributes continue to pour in for Jim McLean.
From every corner of the footballing map, people have been keen to show their respect and admiration for 'Wee Jim' and most of the anecdotes and memories have brought tears to many an eye.
There will only ever be 'One Jim McLean' and as difficult as it may be to ever fully pay tribute to this titan of our Club's history, we will look to do so in the most appropriate manner.
Dundee United continue to respect the McLean’s family right to privacy at this current difficult time.
Our Supporters’ Liaison Officers and Board members David Dorward and Colin Stewart are in contact with the family. With their permission, we are working to have available an online condolence book for people to pay respect as soon as possible.
The players and staff will wear black armbands and observe a minute’s silence ahead of the visit to Celtic on Wednesday and the Club will also look to pay a fitting and lasting tribute to Jim to commemorate his life and his tremendous service to Dundee United at the next home match and beyond.
