Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

Lets end October with the 3 points. County only a point behind us. Couple teams below also with games in hand so a win this qeek would be very beneficial.

Looks like Butcher will be missing again and also Pawlett. Our bench was very weak on Saturday i thought.

Hopefully Smith can start at RB and allow Bolton to start further up the park. Also Hopefully see Fuchs on the bench and see him come on 2nd half.

Siegrist
Smith
Reynolds
Neilson
Robson
Bolton
Powers
Harkes
Clark
Mcnulty
Shankland

He's not gonna drop both Connolly and Edwards after back to back clean sheets

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

What injuries do Butcher and Pawlett have?

And Sporle for that matter?

Thecourier reported Burcher and Pawlett as carrying niggling problems and Sporle groin.

Thanks.

We are carrying some amount of injuries this season.

Can't recall even one matchday where we had a full squad to choose from.

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

We have had 3 clean sheets in a row. No way is he dropping Connolly, Reynolds or Edwards.

Time for certain players to step up to the plate. Bolton, Robson, Harkes, Powers, Clark, McNulty. Dare i say it, even Shankland.

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

Don’t think we’ll go to a back four even though it’s killing us as a team playing three

So
Benji
Connolly Edwards Reynolds
Smith fuchs powers robson
Bolton shankland Mcmullan

Something needs to change

Cannae see that one about Shanks.
How can he do his job if he gets totally zip ball ?
No for want of trying - all to often he's tracking back to midfield & occasionally defence to help ... must be a frustrated man.

Hope we see Fuchs Saturday.
No Chalmers listed in any of these selections ?  Whats the story there ?

Maybe just me Shaky but i don't think he's done much even when he has got the ball.

I know he is very much a penalty box Striker. And the lack of service to him has been shocking but when he drops deep and has the ball we need a bit more from him.

Can't remember the precise time but say 15 mins from the end of the St J game Shankland, in open play, won the ball & won it well, just oiutside OUR penalty box.

Great.

But we do need better hold-up and link-up play from him further up the pitch. He's not beyond criticism. No Utd player is.

Agree. I think the Livi game showed some worrying traits for me. Hold-up play was severely lacking and control was poor. Hard shift being a United striker in this team so he has my sympathies but when he was fleetingly involved, it was quite poor.

That's a symptom of poor team performance though, not the cause. One thing i'd give RN credit for over MM is he tried to set the team up to feed Shankland. It wasn't always pretty but it was relatively successful. MM's balancing act is keeping the defence protected whilst trying to play to Shankland's strengths in an attacking sense.

2 league goals so far for him. one from decent play with Sporle and Chalmers involved, interestingly enough. the other a wonder goal from a set piece. Great he scored it but there's no intent or game plan behind it.

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

Two ways this can go now, the perfect excuse for a dismal half hearted defeat.
Or the players may show a bit of togetherness and resilience.
🤔

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

I’d like to see
.                  Siegriest
Smith.   Edwards.    Reynolds.    Robson
Bolton.    Neilson.        Fuchs.     Clark
                McNulty.    Shankland

Assuming Chalmers & Sporle are still injured otherwise I’d stick one of them LW

It will be nothing like that however

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

Based on what we have available I'd like:

Benji

Smith
Edwards/Connolly (not fussed either way)
Reynolds
Robson

Bolton (needs to start showing something)
Harkes (ditto)
Powers
McMullan

McNulty
Shankland

Fuchs to hopefully get off the bench 2nd half and score a screamer

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

👆

This is the best interview Mickey Mellon has given as Utd Manager BY MILES in my opinion.

I have been critical of him recently at times and have felt a bit downtrodden about the club in general if i'm honest. I haven't been looking forward to the games and certainly haven't been enjoying them.

But he has given a brilliantly honest interview here. And on top of the Chairman's similiarly honest interview earlier on i am personally feeling a bit better about our men in charge of the football club this evening, certainly than i have done of late.

This situation might just be the making of us this season, you know. If we can use it to unify the dressing room and the relationship with the support.

Really looking forward to buying and watching the County game now. I hope we see a Utd side who are intent on attacking as a team and winning the game.

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

Frank, honest, open, humble interviews from both Mick and Mr O.

I get the feeling Micky has more grasp of Covid and likelihood (zip) of Goverment aid.

Micky's positive and well set out views on where we go from here are balanced, realistic, hit some nails on the head ie woeful passing - but what's reassuring is he's owning up to the need to address on field problems and keep a level head off it.

Roll on Sunday morning 4am. Wifey awa' - big screen, volume up full tit to hear Micky on sideline.

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

Massive match today, win and we put a wee bit of distance between ourselves and the bottom hopefully and more importantly 4 points clear of County who will be in the mix for relegation.

We will learn a bit more about our squad of players this afternoon and find out if there is a reaction to losing 20% of the monthly wage packet. TBH I don’t know how Mellon will manage to turn it to a positive but that unfortunately is part of football management these days.

A sound defensive display and a wee bit of spark in the final third should be enough especially with the donkey at the back for them then we are sure to get chances.

Shankland will score against County today and give Donaldson nightmares again very fitting for 31st October.

4-0 United, Shankland, Clarke and McNulty all on the scoresheet.

Re: Dundee Utd v Ross County 31/10/20

442 with Pawlett left midfield. Even though we have McMullan, Sporle and Appere on the bench who have all played that position before. If anyone can explain wtf Pawlett has done to justify his inclusion in this team, I'd love to hear it. Fucking baffling team selection in that sense.

Having said that, fuck it, Mon Utd.
