Harkes and Connolly deals

When the deals for these 2 got annoucned in June and August tbey seemed to be concerns raised from many including myself.

Now we are 10 league games in and Harkes who is now contracted to 2022 has started every game for us this season which is quite worrying given how poor he has performed imo. A new deal should never have been handed to him from the club without any involvment in the top league.

On Connolly 2023 he is contracted to! A total bombscare in the championship plays one game in the premier league with us and ends up with a new deal. Based on what exactly? Being a nice guy behind tbe scenes?

Now before anyone jumps in i am not blaming out poor performances on these 2 alone more highlighting tbe disappointment of how long we now have them for.

Re: Harkes and Connolly deals

The new deal for Connolly was mental, absolutely no need for it to be extended then.  Why not wait until a few months into the season to see if he’s going to be good enough in the premier league then look at extending it?  It’s not as if there would have been a queue of clubs lining up to steal him from Utd!

He has had 3 complete fuck ups that have cost us goals- St Johnstone at home, Killie away and last night.  He’s also received a ban for breaching covid protocol and is quite injury prone.

I think there's still time and perhaps hope for Harkes to come good.

Regarding being a good guy to have in the dressing room, make that person the Motivation Coach.

Re: Harkes and Connolly deals

Connolly needs to do better. Edwards caused that last night. Lost count of his fresh air swipes this season already. Was ok leading up to that, botched clearances aside.

Edwards kicked fresh air, yes. But Connolly was more culpable.

Had about 3 chances to avert disaster. Could have passed to Mehmet or even just shelled the ball into the stand. Instead he dilly dallies, gets outmuscled and causes a 3 on 2 in their advantage in the last minute, which they score the winner from. Unforgivable. He should be finished at Utd. But won't be.

The guys a bombscare and not good enough for this level. His contract extension was a joke and was the first thing Mellon did that worried me. It was so premature.

Harkes signed his new deal when we had no Manager in charge. So that's an Asghar decision.Which is mental when you think about it

The thing is TEK, Asghar has far to much input in signings and contracts. Hence why connolly got the extension he did

Whilst i agree, it's Mellon who has ultimately 'okayed' the Connolly extension.

So that's on him.

That goal is horrific.  There are 5 players making mistakes, Edwards fresh air swipe, Connolly being Connolly, Bolton lets his man get 3 yards, Harkes is standing watching and Butcher as usual just watches his man go past him and makes no effort to get back in.  It’s beyond schoolboy.

Re: Harkes and Connolly deals

Edwards's slice is horrendous and causes the problem but the goal is totally avoidable if Connolly doesn't chest the slice. Any defender that plays at a high standard lets that run back to the keeper. He is absolutely shite but will start next week. Beggars belief.

Re: Harkes and Connolly deals

Losing the game wasn't the worst part of last night. The absolutely insipid, gutless performance lacking any ounce of fucking effort bothered me much more. We can debate all season about defensive mistakes but we are tied to these players for the duration of their contracts and that's it. We will have defensive errors but they are made at all levels of the game, otherwise where would goals come from? My biggest concern right now is being made to look like an under 11 team by a side who in normal times attract crowds of about a fucking thousand.

Re: Harkes and Connolly deals

I was a shite player. Row Z was a great option.
Mebbe I could teach the silly fucker a thing or two.

Cost us 4 points so far, extrapolate that over the whole season makes say 14 (depending on how you work out top six.) I know it's no that simple but playing alongside or behind Connolly must leave the rest of them trying to double guess his mistakes which in turn causes fuckups.

And a 3 year deal ffs !!!!

For me Harkes 7 out of 10 with potential.

Well if he hasn't okayed that decision (and all others) he should't be the Manager.

I think he has and is fwiw. Though Asghar undoubtedly has an influence. Too strong an influence at that.

Oh how I wish we could swap them for Sean dillon hitting the ball off his own face...

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.
