Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

We should have been allowed into the game on Saturday in limited numbers but legohead has fucked that up so we watch on TV again.

Anyway.. we currently sit 2 points of the bottom of the league and badly can do with a win in this one.
How do you line up? Is Liam Smith alive? Has he left and we haven't been told again?

Siegrist
Freeman
Neilson
Reynolds
Robson
Butcher
Harkes
Appere
Bolton
Clark
Shankland

We're also 1 point off 5th so it's not all doom and gloom.

Who knows what the team will be but I fancy us to win and for Shanks to get off the mark.

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

This won't be the line up MM chooses, as Pawlett and Edwards got 90 mins at Ibrox, Neilson got 81
and Chalmers 45 with Appéré out the picture, but I'll go for

          Siegrist
Freeman Butcher Reynolds Robson
Bolton Powers Harkes Appéré
Shankland Clark

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

It's funny how quickly it can go from innovative and fresh thinking to tinkering and unpredictable for a manager. Reynolds is our only defender not to be injured this year, we really need a bit of consistency back there soon.

Saying that, if anyone has had upheaval in the past week then it's our next 2 opponents!

Would love to know why Powers was hooked at HT last week but the reason will dictate the line-up this week. To me, he played ok and looked like he could play a 5 yard pass which many couldn't.

I don't think we can afford not to play Shankland. I just wonder whether we'll wrap our sellable asset in cotton wool for a few weeks to ensure the injury is fully healed.

This.

*assuming Liam Smith is still injured.

Sick of seeing Pawlett in the starting XI. Boy offers nothing.

I don't like talk of must win games, especially this early in the season, but this one feels like a big one.

A win on Saturday, especially an assured one and I for one will be very relieved.  Another outing with no threat upfront and a loss however unlucky and I will be one step away from full panic.

Get what you are saying nomad.

We always want to win, but at the same time would that paper over the problems evident in the squad? And would a defeat be the impetus to sign more players than presently seems likely?

You get the feeling that the honeymoon period is over for Micky, and it wouldn't take much for some of the support to turn against him.

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

It's not been pretty viewing in the last few weeks but jesus christ, surely we're not at the stage of starting to turning against a manager already? Probably the same fans that gushed over him after 4 games as well.

He needs supported from fans and the board/owners, we're not even nearly through the first round of games yet. Which is in a new league, during a pandemic, with his best player injured for the majority.

I get it was just a statement but it's not isolated and these things don't take long to snowball. Shouldn't even be a murmur at this stage. Depresses the life out me.

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

I can't see anyone turning on Mickey Mellon anytime soon. And rightfully so.

It's not his fault the squad is so bereft of quality. He is doing the job with one hand tied behind his back at the moment and couldn't have gotten not much more out of the games we have played thus far with the resources available to him.

Saturday, he has almost a fully fit squad however so i think we're all looking to see a more cavalier line-up and performance registered.

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

Apart from the killie defeat, in which we actually dominated possession but couldn't defend or make any impact at the other end, we have lost to 3 of the top 4. I think now we have a run of games in which we can compete on a level playing field we might start to look a bit more of a threat.

Well I fucking hope so at least 😂

Boys, I'm one of the more patient supporters, I'd like to think. Therefore there's no suggestion from me that Micky is under any pressure. It's the fickle nature of football supporters, not just United fans, I'm pointing out.

There are some questioning Micky's abilities already, but that always happens: football fans are very fickle, often discounting the big picture.

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

The team is like to see us nothing like what we will see, but tbh there are 1 or 2 who have been completely found out at this level already and I’d rather see what others could do than continue flogging dead horses, where possible at least.

I’d go

.                      Suegriest
Smith.  Edwards.     Reynolds.    Robson
                        Neilson
  Bolton.                                    Sporle
                           Glass
             Shankland.       Clark

If Smith’s still out then get Freeman in.

Re: Dundee Utd v St Mirren 19/09/20

Stating the obvious but we need to keep it tight at the back and stop shipping goals has got to be the priority today.

4-5-1

benji
Robson, Neilson, Reynolds and Smith/Freeman
2 yanks, Bolton, Butcher and McMullan
Shankland.

Any win would be great against our relegation rivals.

F*** me, first 30 mins is some of the most turgid football I've ever seen.

Just a bit in the 1st half, but yeah in the 2nd half. Defo.

Great bit oe play before Sporle scored. 3 attempts on target.

Tait the tit is aff for a disgraceful lunge on Chalmers.

Midden score after a p1sh tippy tappy ba by Reynolds.
