Pawlett is much improved on last season. His fitness has come on leaps and bounds. However, I think he's a Championship player these days unfortunately. Hope he proves me wrong, (and his corners are also looking better than last year) but can't see him improving more than his pre-season work has allowed thus far. We are crying out for a Scott Allan or dare I say it a Graham Dorrans type.
This. I keep saying we need a Gauld type, Allan would fit the bill too.

Shankland supposedly limping heavily leaving Tannadice earlier.
Must be a strong doubt for Saturday i'd say.
Can only comment on the goal, as I wasn't watching live. Anyone think Seigrist was at fault?

I'd say after watching it i'd have to just give Doidge credit.
Was a helluva finish.

Was just ‘one of these things’
Slight lapse in concentration. Edwards maybe could do a bit better. Won’t waste time criticising, these things will happen. Hibs are not our rivals this season but Saturdays opponents are. Need to be going there with 3 points fully on the agenda.

That was my initial thought (i.e. keeper shouldn't be beaten at his near post), but watching it a few times I am not sure there was that much he could do. The boy fair rattled it in at a height he really couldn't do too much about. The mistake was Edwards for rushing out and leaving Bolton with two, if anyone, but even then you can't blame him 100% and the linesman got it wrong too. I'd agree with MockChop - it was just one of those. Shame, as I think we deserved the point.

I did think he should have done better with it but when you look at the power and the range it was hit from not a lot he could do. It was the mistake by Edwards then an unfortunate deflection.
At the start of the season i would have been happy with 4 points from three games against 2 teams from the top half of the league and the team that seem to be in form at the start of this season. But having watched the matches i am disappointed we have not taken more.

I've been a critic of Seigrist on here in the past, but really can't fault him at the goal, close range pace beat him, and the shot really went in the best possible place for Doidge.

Edwards should have signalled to go off immediately he took the injury a minute or so before the goal, but with it being his debut I can understand why he was hoping it wasn't as bad as it turned out. The ball bagatelled around after he misjudged it, and everything fell in place for Doidge.
I agree, MockChop, our present aim should be to ensure we have enough points to be safe, but it's good to be ambitious, and I didn't see a lot in Hibs that makes them so much better than us, or perhaps we dealt with them better than I expected.
One thing though, they have the sort of players up front which we need, providing width, pace and so far this season goals.

I agree. But for a couple of tiny bits of luck one way or the other we could currently have 7 points instead of 4, so it is easy to be disappointed. That being said, we have been creating so little up front that we could easily have 0 points and 0 goals by this stage without too wild a stretch of the imagination, so we shouldn't be too disappointed with what we have.
Hopefully the team is finding it's feet, and our attacking play will start to improve without us suddenly becoming leaky at the back like many of us feared was possible before the season started. A couple of astute signings could really make a difference right now, so hopefully MM is biding his time and will come up with the goods.
Sorry to drag this up again, but Safranko would have been a great addition to the team so far this season. If there has ever been any truth in rumours of his return, now would seem like a perfect time

Hindsight is 20/20 but if we have Smith, Robson & Shankland for 90 mins last night, we win that game.
I'm still fizzing about Edwards still being on the park at their goal. A fit defender blocked that. A point was there for the taking.
One thing I am happy about tho is we're a lot closer to Hibs than we were in the two Sc Cup games last season.
I attribute that to Mellon, there's something about his teams that I like.

Agreed MC. Even Robson on his own might have been enough.

I like the cut of Mellon's jib but i reckon it was a big big mistake not subbing Edwards as soon as he was showing signs of injury/fatigue.
The boy hadn't played for months and keeping him on the park not only cost us a goal but has also most likely aggravated the injury (hamstring).

He didn't look fatigued before the injury - a bit lumbering, but I suspect that is his style. Of course, as soon as his hamstring tweaks of course he should have been off, but that was as much Edwards fault as it was MMs (who might not have seen the injury). Also a bit of naivety as he should have just gone down and taken a breather anyway. Notice Boyle did that and there seemed to be little wrong with him.

Players who tweak or pull their hammy nearly always do so because they're either not fully fit or tired mate.
I reckon he was a bit of both.
Hopefully it's just a strain and not too bad though because i think he'll do ok for us.

Agreed Tek - he's clearly not fully fit but he wasn't breathing out his arse (i.e. not fatigued). Having had a grade 3 hamstring tear at the start of last season (hockey not football) due to being both not fully fit and fatigued (50 next month) I share his pain. It clearly wasn't a grade 3, but he should still have taken himself off or sat down and had it assessed by the physio - silly lad really. So yes hopefully a mild one (looked it) and if so they'll be plenty other stuff he can do to get fit in the meantime - think a couple of weeks would make sense - and agree think he'll be fine for us.
