Didn't see a thread discussing this so thought I'd start one...
First bit of news, and it's bad news, is that Benji has picked up an injury and is in a 'race to be fit' for the start of the season according to the courier. Not ideal. Deniz an able deputy, but certainly not ideal.

Deniz due for a chance.
No ill will to Benji but every high ball gives me the fears.
25 pens zip saved.
Ever clearance the ba splaffs of the side of his boot and puts pressure on full back.
He must be the only goalie who gets lampooned for not saving penalties.
So now we're counting, 25 is it?
It's like a brilliant artist who loses reputation for not signing the bottom of his painting.
Ok we're all waiting for his first penalty save (cue riotous scenes incl pitch invasion) but I'll tell you what he does have now in abundance & that is confidence & he's grown that over his time with us despite not always having the tightest of defences in front of him in his 50-or-so games for us.
Voted best gk in the C'ship last season despite his nemesis?
Hope he's fit for Aug 1, big, big season for him.

Not sure this is the thread for it but my thoughts on this season are moving more towards realism rather than the normal optimism. The best things we as fans can do is be conscious of the absolute nightmare this pre-season has been for the club and may need to be relatively patient.
We are literally weeks and weeks behind where we should be, largely thanks to factors out with our control. Not knowing what league we'll be in as an absolutely massive barrier to signing anyone, finalising budget or attracting players for that matter. We then lost our manager and yes, took a few weeks to replace but rather this than jump in quickly for the wrong person.
Mellon is then starting from scratch on having to get to know and give a chance to the existing players before then being able to address what he thinks he needs then sign them.
He's then only got a few weeks before the start of the season to get his ideas across effectively to the squad which sounds like it's going to be a change from Neilson's outlook on life. Probably for the better from what I hear but this will take time.
The likelihood of us hitting the ground running seems pretty slim. I hope there's no instant negativity if things don't go well from day one.

Will be interested to see what he does with some of the younger players, i know they always get game time in preseason games, but will he take the approach if they are good enough they are old enough and play them from the start. Hard to see the impact they can have coming off the bench for a 5 minute cameo.
Talks a lot in interviews about preparing the younger players, really keen to see that pay off for us.

Great post. Absolutely spot-on. No assistants in for Mellon yet is not ideal either.

I can’t really look forward or get excited about the season at all until this fucking court case is out the way. Normally I’d know our first 5 or 6 fixtures off by heart, beyond St Johnstone at home on first day I don’t have a clue. Must be brutal for the club not being able to properly prepare when less than 3 weeks now til kick off.

Jesus christ. There is nothing worse than someone who says 'fact' after something that is their own opinion.
You are also very wrong by the way. In my opinion...

Also agreed. 18 year old keepers haven't exactly worked out in the past.

Benji has developed very well as a keeper and unfortunately, is still compared to his early form where there were mistakes. Fair play to Neilson and Alexander for their work with him as his confidence and performances is much better now. He's much better at crosses too but some fans are unable to take a step back and view the odd isolated incident by itself.
He won us countless points last year. One of our best results (4-1 at Thistle) would have been up the poley before it started if he never had 2 great saves at 0-0 whilst the rest of the team had an incredibly slow start.

Good post Lilley.
Did you see de Gea just now at Southampton's equaliser? He's reported to be on over £200k a week! And prone to the occasional error. If that had been Benji (2k/wk?) people would be saying he's shite & can't save penalties either

100% spot on.
No negativity 6 weeks in either.
That said I'm still hoping for Mickey's mirale.

To slightly hijack this topic, and maybe closer related to the one covering Saturday's friendly, I'm a bit puzzled about the arrangements for football clubs generally for the coming season.
I can go to a pub and sit 1 metre from strangers, or eat in a restaurant: it's doubtful that 'science' is the driver behind this, more likely the economic desire to get the hospitality industry going. That got me thinking about hospitality at football clubs, which brings in large sums to all clubs these days.
How hasn't this been given the green light, obviously with reduced capacities in hospitality suites?
I'm not arguing it is correct that we are allowed back inside pubs and restaurants, but wondering why, if it is deemed okay to visit these places, hospitality at football games, and access to the outdoor areas to watch games in a controlled manner, isn't also acceptable.
What am I missing, because as far as I can determine, the football industry is being discriminated against?

I'm still scratching my head that I can be fined for shopping in Tesco without a mask, but weatherspoons will be full of drunken bellends with no regard for social distancing nor face masks and they are absolutely fine? Boris is a fucking prick 😕

Correction, Wetherspoons 😋.
Sorry I don't frequent the place so hadn't realised I'd spelt it wrong.
It's not the first sensible thing I've said all day incidentally 👍

Aye Smeds.
Benji will only get credit for saving penalties when does it mate. Some stats don't always tell a true story but 25 pens is what it is and bringing it up on the back of saying "good post" only keeps it a talking point.
Hope he turns it around el pronto with a penalty save that means alot to bury the issue and move on to more and build confidence.

De Gea complete pish.

Edit last post, Daily Record (Keith Jackson) saying St Mirren in lockdown following several positive tests.
Christ knows how many days to go.
