The agency that represents Niskanen is now following United on Instagram too. Definitely some activity there. Is the Finnish season finished?
As post 98 Neilson has confirmed our interest.
Yeah buddy, was in the article within post 81 yesterday
Seriously though I like the look of this boy. We've been crying out for a Conway/GMS type winger for ages. He appears to be more in Conway mould as someone who can deliver and finish well with both feet. Youtube isnt the place to judge a player but he does look very good in his highlights. Also it was confirmed by the Finnish national manager that he would have been called up had the season not been suspended. Encouraging work from United. On the face of it, Niskanen and Nisbet would be good additions to the forward line if we can get deals done for them. Hopefully we are doing the same for a centre back - Stuart Findlay maybe? What a start these 3 would be to our summer business.

Neilson is on the BBC Scotland football podcast today.

Not sure how I feel about Hayes. 33 next month. No doubt he is a good player and would improve us, but what kinda wages/length of contract would he be looking for? Could this be spent better elsewhere?
Nisbet is a no-brainer for me. Come in the door with no major pressure as Shankland will still be around. Time to settle in and once Shanks inevitably moves on he can step into his shoes to an extent. 18 league goals for Nisbet last year compared to Shanks 24 - and he is two years younger. Very encouraging potential signing. All depends on how willing Dunfermline are to part with him.

Side note around Neilson on the BBC podcast today.
He said he'd like to bring in 4 or 5 players but it all depends on when fans are allowed back into stadiums (which I found confusing because when we are allowed back in, even then, it will just be season ticket holders?).
He said that until we know that we can only really bring in 1 or 2 at the moment then move on more at a later date.
He said if he HAD to go into the season with the current squad then he feels like we are in a stronger position with our squad than a number of teams in the league who have lost multiple players and don't really have much of a squad built at the moment.
HOWEVER one thing I'd say about Neilson is he a frequent downplayer. I think he might be saying that so when we do go in with bids for boys like Nisbet, Niskanen, maybe Findlay that the clubs dont assume we have loads of money to spend.
For what its worth... if we were to only sign the 1 or 2 he is talking about, a centre half and striker would probably be my choice. A bit of a toss-up between winger and striker though if I'm honest, I just really want to see Nisbet at the club and by the looks of things he is very high up on the list of targets.

Hayes is a player i've rated over the years. 33 is old for a winger however.
Though experience is a necessary component of a Premiership side also. We need players who won't be overawed or freeze at a packed Ibrox or Parkhead. And he certainly wouldn't.
Nisbet would be a fantastic signing. Though it would surely take a hefty transfer fee to secure his services.
I can only see that one happening if Shankland is sold.

We apparently offered over 400k for him in January. Not sure what that number will be now. I feel that anything 150k or over might be accepted in the current climate.

Who knows.
The fact we are sniffing about Nesbit though does give me the impression we are preparing for a Utd side minus Shankland in it.
But maybe (hopefully) i'm wrong.

I'd like to think its us doing everything we didnt do in 2014/15 and recognising that we will (eventually) have to sell our best players and are getting replacements in early. I'd expect Shankland to be here until Jan at the very very least so Nisbet getting that time to settle in would be a positive. Ideally we have both of them up there to be honest.

How much do you think we'll get for Shankland?
Not a clue. I'd rather he saw out his contract tbh.

I'd rather he signed an extension.

I would prefer it if we just went about our business as we have done in the last season and a half by confirming the deals once they are signed on the dotted line.
like any fan I love a rumour especially during what will be the longest per season ever but would prefer it if when asked about players just declined to comment.
Its a no for the two players from me linked also, Hayes at 33 will be expensive as well as having his best days behind him. Nisbet will be costly also and it’s a buyers market IF we do have cash to spare we should wait for number 10 that is proven at premier league level.

Me too, I'd be delighted with both. Those two plus the Finnish winger and the boy from Killie and I'd be happy going into the new season ( Shankland to stay too obviously)

Nisbett & the Finnish laddie no Brainers for me.
Nisbett - stats as good as Shanks, young, hopefully pick him up cheap, sell him on for good money.
Finnish laddie - young and Christ we're crying out good winger + good sell on.
Hayes - years contract, if we didnae pay him much Ok. Resale value zippo. Cannae see it.
CHs a must - just looking back at the cockup Connolly/Reynolds made in play off against St. Mirren - sorry lads - got to go. Reynolds a a Dons reject 2 years ago.
Online!
Reynolds gets a hard time doesn’t he?
Sorry but he’s not going anywhere. 2 years left on his deal and is club captain. Neilson clearly sees him in the role next season. We obviously need another CH of good quality. The boy Findlay would tick a lot of boxes.

Agreed. Maybe not the player he was but I think he'll do well enough next season when required. Clearly a good influence to have around the place. Came across brilliantly on the Dode Fox podcast too. Surprisingly appears to be the joker of the changing room as well as the club captain.

"Maybe not the player he was" sums it up for me.
Just because a player's club captain shouldnae mean to say he's automatically in the run on eleven. It should mean he's one of the best week in week out - no just adequate.
We'll no risk him so he seems to get the Saturday off every time we play on plastic. - Whit's that aboot !! How many games does he miss automatically - 6
We want to be up there challenging - adequate no good enough.
Although all that said, he'll still be there August.

He doesnt play on plastic because he did his ACL on it when he was 31. Plenty players in a similar position.
Not saying he should be in the 11 every week but that doesnt mean he isnt an important member of the squad. You dont go from being a mainstay in the team of the winners of the Championship to being not good enough for the Premiership overnight.

Players get injured on grass pitches at the same rate as plastic pitches but we wouldn't tolerate a player not playing on grass because he'd been injured playing on that surface. Maybe the club should refuse to pay, when the player refuses to play. Plus, he's the captain. He should be setting an example. It's about as bad as Robertson pulling out of the Scotland squad against Kazakhstan because he had sore gums
I don't dislike Reynolds but I was surprised he was handed such a lengthy contract, given his age and injury problems. At Motherwell he was easily the quickest defender on Scotland but he's slower than Darren Dods now. I'm really hoping that the club will bring in someone to play alongside Connolly with Reynolds as back-up or just play Butcher, who is a better CB than both.
It's a pretty well known fact that some injuries that happen on plastic pitches are 100% down to the difference in the plastic compared to grass. Also he played on plastic 3 times last season because we didnt have other options. Bore off with the setting an example shite. Load of rubbish.

What's the point in having a captain then? Isn't that one of their key responsibilities, to set an example? Clown
So because he doesn't like playing on plastic because he got a career threatening injury recently then he shouldn't be our captain? Is that all that expected of a captain is it? Strange thought process in my opinion.
Also I wont lower myself to name-calling. We are all friends here pal.
