With a spending cap placed on English League 1 clubs from today it is likely that many clubs will be willing to let players go to drastically reduce their wage bills. With MMs contacts there may be some real good bargains to be had.

I reckon a lot of their players will look for clubs abroad instead.

So the cap in league 1 is £2.5m and in league 2 its £1.5m?
Just to confirm - is that 2.5/1.5 for the entire playing squad??
Because for league 1 that works out at around just under £50k a week. So a squad of 25 on an average of 2k a week?
Certainly narrows the gap in terms of competition. This could be a big opportunity for Scottish football!

Yes 2.5 million for each league 1 squad. I believe under 21s are exempt from the calculations of the total squad wage bill. It certainly could help us gain Norwood on loan as Ipswich are one of the Leagues high spenders.

That would depend how much Norwood is on and how much of that we would be willing to pay.

Might also explain what Scott Burns meant by a lot of things need to happen first. One thing though, he's probably on about 8 grand a week so he's still going to have to take a huge cut
Yes. Perhaps we could go 50- 50 with Ipswich on his wages. Aside from Norwood I think this decision opens up possibilities for improving the team. Mellon may indeed have a lot of plates spinning at the moment.

Interesting.
See that says that those on above the average will be treated as £1,300 for the rest of their contract. So Ipswich wouldn't be counting the £8k for Norwood. But if they aren't going to play him then assume they'd be better getting him off their books. Means the market has significantly shrunk for players previously making more money on L1 and L2 so we may well see some players looking at our leagues again.

Yes. It also means that we are less likely to have players lured away by Chelmsford Rovers or Rowntree City with the promise of big sacks of the filthy lucre.

People putting 2 and 2 together and getting 24 I'm sure. Apparently injured for tomorrow is the rumour. It takes very very little to start a Shankland is leaving rumour I'm afraid.

Scott Burns also confirmed that Ilmari Niskanen is still on the radar, along with a number of other wingers. It would seem our business is far from done! Good to hear.
Now that would be a signing with potential.
Is the Finnish season running that Mickey can get a look at the laddie ?

From the 1st of July he has scored 6 goals in 8 games for Kups according to transfermarket. All 8 games has started at left wing. They are currently top of the league and play Helsinki tomorrow who are
2 points behind them.
At least he would be fit and ready to go if anything in it.

Our preparations for the season have been hit by two badly timed actions from Hearts, and I'd expect that it will be quite a while before we can judge how the season might go.
Niskansen and Norwood would be welcome additions, and I hope Ryan Edwards and Luke Bolton settle quickly, but I expect some complaints about us not getting our work done quickly enough if we are in a bad position in a month's time. That wouldn't have really been possible, though.

Yes. We are about two months behind our usual schedule in terms of a team rebuild. It's unrealistic to expect a Championship squad to get off to a flyer in this league. Unfortunately the fans with high expectations may not be able to deal with a run of poor results.

No one has high expectations, we have hope and a bit of positivity as opposed to your constant negativity. I agree we are some way behind in where we would normally be in terms of preparation but it's been anything but a normal summer for everyone and other teams will be far removed from where they would like to be too.

Constant negativity. Well you seem to have a problem man. I apparently talk tripe and had it in for Shankland because I didn't name him in the team I suggested for today. You seem to be filled with righteous indignation if anyone criticises your favourite players etc. Well I suppose I'm lucky to have your constant warmth and attention. It's going well though as you haven't called me a funster, bluenose etc yet. But, I'm not playing hard to get its just, gad yir so emotional. Are you some kind of Censor?

I know it's early days but it looks like signing MM could be our best bit of business this summer.
