Back to our bogey ground.
Think i've seen us play here 5 times and never even seen us score a goal, never mind win.
Big performance should be demanded from the players after that shitshow yesterday.

Harkes and Pawlett should only feature from the bench imo. Powers needs dropped and i can't see what he offers to the side even from the bench.
With that in mind the Utd side i would like to see start the game on Tuesday evening is (injuries permitting).

Not really bothered which 2 CH’s play but apart from that, that should be the team.

If i'm being honest i find Connolly and Reynolds are much of a muchness. However I've went with the back 4 who kept 9 clean sheets out of 11 games in the run that has probably won us the league. Think Reynolds has been quite harshly dropped tbh and I say that as someone who is not his biggest fan.

I can see reasons for all the possible combinations, I just don’t think any of them are that great tbh.

Heading through and am expecting a massive improvement from what has been served up on Saturday.

Expecting or hoping for? 😉

After Saturday's team selection and performance, although I enjoy the ground at Somerset Park and the Hawkhill Bowling Club, and night games can be a big attraction, I've turned down the chance to go tonight, as enthusiasm is at a low ebb.
Watching the same mistakes repeatedly being made has finally worn me down. Hope I'm disappointed to have missed the match at around 9:30 tonight.
Just noticed Butcher is missing out again. Gives me the fear thinking about Powers in there. Wonder if Harkes and Glass would be too lightweight as a central two?

I'm expecting nothing but a defeat, unfortunately.
Reading these posts I double checked the league table.
But it's ok, I'm happy to confirm we are 18 points ahead at the TOP of the league & not 18 points adrift at the BOTTOM of the league.

Unbelievable.

Ignoring the fact that we were fucking abysmal at the weekend, also the fact that our record at Ayr is also fucking abysmal, our recent performances are hardly inspiring either. But crack on knocking other folks opinion though.

We'll turn a corner soon I feel, is it in this match? Not sure.
Head says 2-0 Ayr
Heart says 1-0 United
A couple of wins will ease spirits but this isn't exactly the ground for those!
As we're reaching the point where the league.....should be ours, I'm thinking ahead really. This team needs some proper restocking!

The recent downturn in form has been long predicted. We are in the bizarre position where I don't think our team (bar Shankland) is significantly better (it is better) than previous campaigns, but this year we are the team who has had the luck and we should see it through despite luck deserting us now.
Whilst Robbie should be praised for getting us into this position and I am confident will be praised for winning the league at the end of the season, that does not, in my opinion, mean that he should be free of deserved criticism. There is no need to repeat that crticism again, all United supporters know what it is and must acknowledge it, even if they think the league position exonerates those in charge.
We have mostly all watched football long enough to know that our performances will not translate into anything other than a relegation fight next year. Yes there will be some additions to the squad (and hopefully all Robbie's mates are already at the club) but our form and lack of confidence on the park points squarely to a lack of confidence in the management team bringing in those new players and lifting our team up to the level that we won't be straight back down. There is a lot of positive changes at Tannadice that should be applauded, but the one that matters is in my opinion in jeopardy in the short to medium term and, in my view, we must voice that opinion now.
I hear from Hearts fans that we need to be careful what we wish for, but I can't but help think that Robbie needs to change his approach to change the general opinion of him and his teams. I hear from football people that he is bright and has a high opinion of himself which is not universally shared. I have no problem with that. We need people with belief, but there is a fine line between stubbornness and self assuredness and for me Robbie is sitting in the former at the moment.

I agree very much with Finn Seemann's post above, and a win won't alter my view on our tactics and, more concerning, our general failings regarding signings.
The big chink of light for me is the number of highly rated young players we are reputed to have at the club. I'm hoping management have confidence in their abilities for the coming years, and would like to see more of them utilised right now, given our comfortable league position and league we are in, for they are less likely to be blooded in the top league if and when we arrive there.

Then obviously everyone will be delighted, does not take away from the fact that currently it's a big if.

Wow, that's some will to win!

The only reason we are so far clear at the top is because the rest of the division is utter shite. We should be playing confidently and with the air of champions elect, instead we look like 11 rabbits caught in the headlights. That is down to the manager to sort out, he doesn't look able in my opinion.

Reports suggest Robbie will make a few changes tonight:
Benji
Smith Watson Connolly Reynolds
McMullan Glass Powers Robson
Appere Shankland
Similar to how we played away at Partick with a back 5 defending (Robson dropping to help Reynolds). Without Butcher we could do with having as many leaders as possible on the pitch. Reynolds could help steady the ship. Glass is in my team but I also wouldnt be surprised if Harkes kept his place tbh.
One thing I've noticed is people calling tonights game a 'must-win' - must wins dont exist when you are 18 points clear, I'm sorry, but they dont. However, given where Ayr could get to in the unlikely scenario where they win tonight AND win their two games in hand on us, I would consider this game is close to being a 'must-not-lose'.

I'd written the bit you've emboldened in the post you'd earlier quoted me from, but you'd chosen to ignore it.
Smeds, my 'will to win' has absolutely no effect of United' s performance. Neither has yours.

At 4.55 pm on Saturday at East End Park I witnessed a fan phenomenon.
When the players & head coach came over (with some trepidation) to thank the large traveling support.
Simultaneous clapping & booing.
Wouldn't have thought it possible.

I guess that is the feeling of a lot of people. I did nothing at the final whistle. No boos and no claps. So I guess this is kind of the same thing?
Clapping the season we've had so far overall and the lead we've built up, but booing the horrific display we witnessed on Saturday.
