Home this weekend to Arbroath this is a game we must win for me and get back to winning ways.
4-4-2 nae fucking about just go for it and get the win.
Will Pawlett be fit to start?
Butcher back in at centre half alongside Reynolds for me and Stanton/Harkes in the middle of the park.
Shankland and Appere up top.

Even if Pawlett is fit i would bench him. Too many poor performances from him.
Will wait to see how the Reserves get on this afternoon before posting a starting XI for Saturday.

Jason Thomson and Steven Doris for them have a combined weight of about 35 stone. If we can't beat teams with players like that in their team we deserve fuck all.

Siegriest
Smith. Butcher. Brown/Reynolds. Robson
McMullan. Harkes. Stanton. Clark
Shankland. Appere
Not sure about CH pairing tbh, Reynolds was awful on Saturday, but a totally new pairing is risky.

This but switch....
Appéré (who done ok at left wing) and Clark (who's totally ineffective in that role).

Or drop Clark altogether and play Pawlett wide.

Arbroath's Championship's Results So Far -
Arbroath 0 QotS 0
ICT 2 Arbroath 1
Alloa 0 Arbroath 1
Arbroath 1 Dunfermline 0
Arbroath 1 Partick 1
5 games...2 wins..2 draws..and 1 (narrow) defeat.
They have conceded less goals than us. Oh and sandwiched in between their 4th and 5th Championship game they also, of course, came to Tannadice, kept a clean-sheet and knocked us out of the Tunnocks Cup, on pens.
Since the 6-2 Derby win and subsequent awards for Neilson and Shankland, everything has been poor.
Knocked out Tunnocks at home to Arbroath.
Defeated by Championship rivals Ayr away.
Reserves getting tanked at Morton.
No goals scored since, in any shape or form.
We had a brilliant August. But we simply can not afford a shite September or Month (full-stop) in this league. The odd defeat, yes.
Need to get back to winning on Saturday. And scoring goals.

At least it's not a must win game on Saturday.
There is that.😃

There's a difference between "must win" and "should win". There's unlikely to be any must win games until about April next year

You want to win a title.
You must win games at home against Arbroath (and the likes).
Never mind could/should or would's. You must win.
We will still be able to win the league if we don't win on Saturday, so it's not a must win.
Yes, I am a pedant and proud.
:-)

Ok GC2 you're allowed to be pedantic, it is NOT a 'must win' game.
But if you'll forgive me being sweary, it's a 'fuckin' better win' game.
Cos if we don't win, this place will be Toxic Towers.
Online!
Every home game Is a must win In this league. We take care of Arbroath and Morton It’ll be 6/7 wins at the end of the month.

Home win banker
Shankland back on the goal trail.
Let’s hope for 3/4-0.

Think it will be tighter than that.

Three quarters not enough.
We need a whole goal.

I reckon we will molecate them!
So it's 45 years since we last played Arbroath in a league game, Div 1, 1974-75.
It was a Wednesday night at Tannadice, March 19, and we won 3-1 which was also the half-time score.
The crowd was 3,889 which appears pretty paltry.
Andy Rolland, Paul Hegarty & Iain McDonald were our scorers. Jimmy Bone theirs.
It was our 5th successive league win & Partick the next week was to make it 6 in a row.
We were to finish 4th in the league with qualification for Europe. Arbroath finished 18th out of 18 but they were to go down with 7 others.
The top 10 would form the new Premier League for season 1975/76 whilst positions 11-18 would make up the new 14-team 1st Division along with the top 6 from Div 2. Below that was to be a new 3rd tier, a 14-team Division 2. So a new 10 - 14 - 14 / Premier - Div 1 - Div 2 set-up.
Our line-up was McAlpine, Narey, Rolland, Hegarty, Copland, Forsyth, Houston, Addison, McDonald, Gray, Sturrock. Subs Duncan McLeod & Payne. McLeod came on for goalscorer McDonald.
Thanks be to the excellent Arab Archive.

Aye that brings back memories, smedDUm! Cannot remember the game, right enough.
Scorer Iain McDonald was a great player, a winger, career brought to a very early end after what I recall were ongoing knee problems. However, he'd come to United with cartilage issues, and with today's medical technology minor surgery would probably have helped him have a long career.
His testimonial was held in October '76 against Dundee: believe it or not, a 7-7 draw! John Greig and Ronnie Glavin were scorers for United (!!!) along with Bobby Ford (og), Paul Hegarty (2), Graeme Payne and Tam McAdam (I had to look that up, I hope you realise). Aberdeen's Jocky Scott scored a Dundee hat trick.
To league reorganisation: Celtic fans today claim this change in structure took place to stop them winning the league all the time, cheerfully omitting to tell you that, in the season Smeds mentions for the last Arbroath league match, it was actually old Rangers who won the title.

Remember that 7-7 game Pat. That sort of thing would never happen these days, an entertaining friendly is a thing of the past,

Perhaps not, although I believe 6-2 is pretty common these days 😂

No Nicky Clark in the squad. Must be injured.
Not a lot of options from the bench should we need them.
