Last season out of 51 competitive games Dundee United only scored 7 headed goals.
We have scored 7 headed goals already this season in just 12 competitive games.
Not hard to see where one of our rare strengths this season lie.
I would have to grudgingly give Laszlo a bit of credit for addressing one of the attributes to our game I have long grumbled about.
Now if we can just address the rest....

I'd give him the credit if we set to play crosses to a target man but he doesn't. We'd score a lot more if we played more crosses into the box instead of his favoured turgid stuff. There's a lesson to be learned here, lets hope for United's sake its learned if not by this manager, by his successor.

When the players were doing their warm up on Saturday, they were doing a crossing drill which I have not seen us doing for years.

They were doing it before the Partick game as well.

This along with having a bit more squad depth are the two standout improvements.
Need a damn sight more if we're to go up though.

My only concern is that teams quickly suss out that our main strength is getting on the end of crosses and set-out to nulify this aspect of our game accordingly.
Because let's be honest we never cut teams open much.

We're not gonna be up against the likes of real Madrid or Bayern Munich so I'd say teams in our league are not really going to be creating impregnable defences, I mean don't all teams plan to defend crosses into the box anyway?

I'm sure they do but if you are telling your full backs to simply push up a bit, double up a bit on Loemba/Aird and generally don't give away daft set-pieces against us then you are nullifying a big part of our attack.

Yes but doubling up on anyone leaves gaps elsewhere don't you think? Otherwise defending in general would be much easier

It does and if we had a midfielder who can drive at teams then we'd be laughing. But i don't believe we have.
Stanton on occasion, but his forms too inconsistent.

This is why Swanson, or a player like that, would’ve made all the difference.

The laddie Glass is that type of player, but it's a lot to put on young shoulders to drive the whole team forward.

Csaba threw (yet another) tantrum when Glass lost the ball and it led to the equalising free kick at Alloa. Possibly why he's not figured in the first team squad since. But aye, he is that type of midfielder.
Stanton on return could fill the role and be every bit as important to us as Fyvie hopefully will be.
