The papers today saying that we're after Danny Swanson, along with St. Johnstone.
Seriously, WTF does this Darren Taylor actually do? Look through a list of ex-players, see who's not getting a game at their current clubs, then sign them?
Is there another club in the history of the world ever who signs so many of their former players?
I fully expect Paul Paton and Keith Watson to be playing in tangerine come February 1st.

As far as im concerned it makes no difference if a player has played for UTD before. If there better than what we have bring them in. The 2 you mention would both walk into our current team

I don't diasgree with that aspect of it, those 3 are undoubtedly better than what we have, and arguably are in the positions we most desperately need filled.
I'm questioning the clearly flawed scouting system at the club. We did, very publicly, appoint a guy who's job description is to unearth players that are better than what we have. All he's done is sign a bunch of out of contract players from other SPFL clubs that everyone's seen a million times before, a couple of Dutchmen on the recommendation of his pals, and made numerous attempts to resign former players.
There's clearly a complete lack of imagination at the club, and the current recruitment system needs to be extensively scrutinised.

I'd take Danny Swanson back in a fucking heartbeat, don't see your issue

Ditto. Would be a very timely signing. Can we crowdfund him?

Could fill the gap left by Fraser, but injury prone and undisciplined - not sure if it's a good idea, can't make my mind up tbh.

As I’ve said, I don’t have an issue with us signing Swanson, which won’t happen btw, as St. Johnstone are interested. My issue is with the club’s recruitment policy, which seemingly consists of only approaching former players.
Ryan Flynn, for example just signed for St. Mirren, a proper winger who hits the byline and actually puts crosses in (A novel idea, I know) proved himself up here with Falkirk, played over 200 games down south at Sheffield United and Oldham, exactly the sort of player we should be looking to sign, but he hasn’t played for us before, so he’s immediately disqualified.

Emil Lyng, Craig Slater, Brandon mason, Kadded All signed this window, Fyvie, Stanton, McDonald, mcmullan, Scobbie etc all signed last window kind of all disprove your theory wouldn't you say? In fact, other than Mikkelsen just who are all these ex players we keep signing? Speculation on message boards doesn't really qualify as the club's position on new signings

Yesterday I read we couldn’t expect to sign Stephen Naismith and it was unrealistic.
Now we are going to pip St Johnstone to Swanson’s signature 😂😂😂
Couldn’t make it up.
Both come back to the lack of organisation of our scouting and ability to target needs and achievable targets.
We are paying our head of scouting over £70k per year and we still have an unbalanced squad lacking in some key areas.
We are playing the same turgid football for the past few years with lightweight players and no pace.
Anyone that points this out though gets shot down

Houston i would certainly agree about the lack of pace and physical presence being an ongoing issue.
There is though no real comparison between Naismith and Swanson. Naismith has almost 50 caps Swanson has none. Hearts will be paying Norwich far more than we could ever afford. UTD will know how much Hibs will want towards Swansons wages and must be willing to pay it. The question is will Swanson want 6 months of mid table boredom at the shitehole that is Mcdiarmid or will he prefer being involved at the top end of the table with the glorious tangerine terrors
Offline
Don’t get me wrong, I would love Swanson in, I just think if a mid table prem team is our competition it’s not realistic.
Did Swanson not resent United when he left as well? I remember we supported him through a mental health issue after he got knocked out but he still felt hard done by from the club.

Fair enough Houston.
What attraction is there at St Johnstone. It is a souless shitehole stadium with pish fans. I still remember streaming out of parkhead after the final and been met by hundreds of ST "fans" they had just won the cup for the first time in their history and they still left earlyWTF is that. I know its looking unlikely at the moment but surely havving a chance to get promoted with a real football team is more of an enticing prospect. Hopefully this is how Swanson is being sold on UTD.
Offline
Haha, I hope they have you doing the selling mate!
I agree with you 100% about St Johnstone by the way.
The big thing I think will be the issue is ego.
Will Swanson be willing to step down or would he see it as a failure on him.
Hopefully not, but most footballers are big on ego and short on sense
Agree with your sentiment re Swanson preferring competitive games as against prem league dead rubbers (positions 5 -10 maybe?) but I wouldn't term McDiarmid a shithole. Now if you want to see a REAL shithole and I mean a REAL SHITHOLE look no further than the south side of Sandeman Street,

Dundee United today announced the signing of amateur striker Idris Kadded until the end of the season.
At a (wild) guess, I'm thinking he's been signed on amateur forms to avoid us being liable for a transfer fee to the last club which registered him. He provided a bit of excitement today, late on, in a drab match.
Sure he said on zone that he hoped to sign a professional contract in the summer.

Surely though if it's a loan then we can't do it as we have taken our quota with Mikkleson, or have I missed something.

Nah mcdairmad park is a shithole. Souless stadium in the middle of nowhere.

Flood, Dixon, Goodwillie, Gomis. Enquiries were made about Ciftci but he didn't want to play at this level and now Swanson.
Will be surprised if he signs for us, he made no secret of the fact he hated the medical staff at the club. Although those staff might not be here anymore.
Regardless, of all the above players who came back, with exception of maybe willo on his second spell back who was actually just as good as their first spell with us?

Add Gunning and Mark Wilson to that list, also tried to get GMS, Scott Allan and Prince back at various points over the last few years, even Garry Kenneth was afforded the chance to win a move back to us.

I hardly think United are unique in signing players for a second spell. I think over the last few years we have signed dozens of players with no previous link to the club, let's ignore that though eh? Hardly points to the club only signing previous players does it? Drama queen or what?

with all these players returning maybe as fans go we ain't bad bad as some would have you believe.
I've got a feeling an ex player will return but I fear it will be Mark Kerr.

No one has said we only sign ex players. Just that we have had quite a few comeback which seems more than most.
The point being made is that these players rarely have the same impact as their first spell. Do you disagree with that?

Flood was behind McDonald and Quinn coming in the summer I believe and he's spoken highly of Kerr in the past from memory.
We need a midfielder and he's out of favour I think at Falkirk hopefully it's 2 and 2 makes 5 though.
