We simply cannot afford to finish anything less than 1st in the Championship this season as do you really fancy us to get out of the Play-Off's and defeat Accies, County, Thistle or even Dundee? I don't.
With that in mind January is gonna be everything.
We cannot afford to fuck about and wait till the end of January either and/or wait for players to get fit. Whoever we sign must be able to hit the ground running. The same mistakes of the past 3 January window's cannot be repeated this year. They simply can't.
OUT - Paul Quinn, Matt Smith (Loan), Scott Allardice (Loan), James Keatings (Loan), Lewis Toshney (Loan),
IN - Centre Half, Right Back, Centre Mid, Winger and AT LEAST 1 (Big, physical) Centre Forward.
Know what? I think we actually need 2 Forwards. McDonald not doing it for me and it isn't happening for Keatings for whatever reason . Paddy of course now gone.
Hope to fuck Csaba has targets lined up and is ready to do business starting on Monday.

tonight could be the best thing that happens to us this season for we clearly need depth and a whole right hand side of the pitch.
the mismanagement in the summer finally caught up with us tonight. If we are góng to be ruthless then the Edge, Briels, Toshney and a RM,RB & a forward required

Think maybe Briels will be released in January. also
Just a gut feeling.

How on earth can being beaten and falling 5 points behind ever be the best thing to happen to us? Genuinely baffled when people come out with such ridiculous statements

because we are never going to go see the season out without a few hiccups and the reaction of a few players was dissapointing to say the least tonight.
the window open in 2 days time and we can do something about it.
hope this unbaffles your napper.

Not really. The manager will have been fully aware of what needs addressing in the January window. I don't see anything at all to be gained from losing, sorry but just find that notion to be absolute nonsense. And to suggest it was the best thing to happen to us, well really I'm dumbfounded

I'm with CCX2. Until last night, given recent results,, there might have been a feeling that we were on the right lines and a bit of tinkering was all that was needed and the window may have come and gone before we found out just how short we were in terms of quality and squad depth. If last night does nothing else but act as a wake up call to Csaba and ST, then it might just turn out to be the proverbial blessing in disguise. At least thats the hope I'm currently clinging to

Agree with CCX2 and Annan.
If this defeat was to happen it's good it happened right before the window opens.
If we had scored that dodgy pen tonight and drew or somehow even won it would have papered over the cracks and we might not have realised just how much surgery is required in January until it was too late.

We need to win the league.

Last Januarys window finished any hopes we had of winning the league. Maybe ST didnt think it was worth trying to compete with Hibs after the massive gap between the teams in the easter road thrashing. This year a few vital changes can make the difference . There is currently no CF in the squad. We also need more aggression in midfield although ive been saying that for 40yrs. Last night was abysmal but we have to ensure we can win the next few games starting against Brechin.

In the last forty years, really, o to have Bowman and McInally in our midfield now

in modern 21C football both Bowman and McInally would be seen as hard men. They both played in a time where players like Souness Aitken Cooper (Neil) Simpson & Willie Miller were real hard men. All 5 of them wouldn’t last in todays lieghtweight game.

You can still get away with Scott Broon play in Scotland so I still believe we can ditch the soft pish and have mair fight.
Ability is one thing that excuses poorer play but anycunt can get stuck in.

Scott Brown commits a lot of fouls by a bit of pushing and shoving . Sit down and watch a few matches from the 70s and you will see that the game has completely changed. For the worse IMO

Agree totally Beharder. I'm fae they 70's bud and played CH, sweeper, right back n' centre mid.
I'm with you all the way. Just hope we can get less undone by teams more aggressive than us and aim to bring in more players with that in their game. It's not impossible even in this day and age with the current rules.

We need flair players with pace and guile and an eye for goal.
But just as badly we need players who when the going gets tough can help us 'win ugly'.
Hamilton Accies have these players in abundance.
I'm sure it's not beyond Dundee United Football Club to get one or two.

Bang on. Surely it's possible and obviously long overdue bud.
I'm fuckin desperate for Csaba to be given the chance to sign the solutions but worry he will be left to make the most of what's left.
I seriously worry those who fund and control gamble on the new managers ability and initial improvement rather than back him with cash as they might be in a rare comfort zone thinking how well they've done appointing the lad without following it up and backing him to succeed.

The manager will know now who he wants to keep and get rid of if he can get a couple of playets like edge and briels to go im aure he will its finding someone to take them or agree compo.
I think if he can get rid of edge he will extend Quinns deal to seasons end for cover more on the financial side as im sure he be on alot less.
Its going to be an interesting month for us thats for sure.

Ken what, I'd get the biggest striker going and just get two nasty bastards in the middle then go long for the rest of the season. Never getting like-for-like replacements for Fraser and Fyvie I'm afraid.
