I think ST is about at the same level of frustration as us, for different reasons of course.

He wants out, but wants what he thinks is a fair price for his possession. It's too simplistic saying ST should sell up and fuck off: if you had a car you were selling for £5000, you wouldn't want to accept £2000. The thing is, I doubt he has any thoughts or even qualifications for what he may wish to do if and when he does go.

We want new investment, which he can't/won't provide, and to be fair to him in some ways, he'd probably given too much backing to the previous two dud managers. But he's stuck with the dilemma of his possession becoming less valuable.

Our dilemma is that we see no other investor on the horizon. And if we starve the club (his possession) of cash, then although he might think again about lowering his price, we might end up in the doldrums for years. Especially if the person who takes over turns out to be a charlatan, which very often happens at football clubs.

So while I have the same exasperation and weariness of many on here, I'm fearful of who could potentially come in to take over, and what the motivations of that person might be.

Good thoughts as ever Pat, well posted.

Agree wholeheartedly with both.  Interesting to hear on Sportsound, last week, someone saying that ST was getting a hard time from supporters now and a couple of years ago he was getting praised. Being chairman of a Scottish club certainly is a hard gig. Sure he's caused a pile of the complaints, BUT, some correspondents on the boards do need to be careful what they wish for.

On seeing his pic, my first reaction was that we're potentially signing a wummin

Thats what i thought.  Anyway think this a dev signing but what a first name.  Good to see dev targets but maybe need a focus on a more experienced type signing too?

Just reading a book set in US. Main character's first name is Mason. SHE shortens it to MACE.

Just saying.

He's the best youth product I had the pleasure of seeing coming through from Tannadice since the 80's.Fantastic player.

I know he'll eventually make us all proud.

He might still be the one that earns Utd a decent 'add on'.

Still remember the days when folk on Mad were eager to get Dowser in ahead of Ryan.   Past it at 17!

Oh, and on a lack of understanding about style, Pat Reilly, I think you'll find that IS a haircut!

First Fraser, now Robson, I think the tabloids must be short of news space & I wouldn't be too concerned there will be any departures. Both are very exciting prospects and it's great we've got them but both have a long way to go. Instance Robson on Friday. Pat suggests he struggled during periods of the game on Friday, maybe he did & why not, it was a high-octane game. But he's still a laddie but can you imagine how quickly he's learning from a game like Friday? Then Fraser - he's currently maybe about 60% the player he's going to be. If he doesn't train on much from here he's still going to have a good career. If he reaches 100% of his potential he's going to be a wealthy young man (what it's all about now sorry).

Intersting point on Sportsound the other day.  Would Armstrong be the player he is now if he hadn't played the 100+ games for United?  He'd never have had that much time on the pitch at Celtic.  Useful thought for youngsters.

I'd take a draw right now but then we've got them again 5 weeks tonite and I guess we'd take a draw then as well? They'll be hoping for 4 points out of the 6. This is their first game minus Fyvie & McGinn so I wonder if I'm being a bit cautious not going for 3 points tonite. It's been the heart of their midfield all season & I don't see obvious replacements, it's upfront they have spare resources.

5-0 for us

I think the game against them in 62-63 was my first 5-0 watching United.  Time for another!!

Unfortunately there is absolutely no footage of the game which younger fans will find hard to believe. I'm proud to have been part of Tannadice's record crowd. Also hard to believe, the 28,000 was 5,500 more than watched the 1st leg.

Same for me, even the part of the ground.

I've given no-one on the list a vote, although McLeish might be the safe SFA choice.

Appointing McInnes could have the impact of destabilising Aberdeen, so that might be an angle for the SFA too, good suggestion TheShed. McInnes also satisfies one of the key points to fit in at the Hampden offices, ex Rangers.

But it will make little difference who is chosen, without a vast alteration in outlook in Scottish football.

In fact, there is no 'outlook', every bit of thinking is focused inwards, suspicion, secrecy and blame being the KPIs in our game.

Agree with this. McInness might do a good job BUT he's unlikely to get a look in.  So he'll be up the road for a while.

Strachan has spent so long defending the players there's nowhere else for him to go. He's NOT choosing or NOT playing the best people. Seems to have a clique going.

The thing that really bugs me is his downright arrogance towards the media - and so to us but then goes and sells his services to the TV as a pundit.

We need a manager that cares about results.

If Strachan chucks it, which I doubt, the problem isn't who is available, it's who the SFA finds acceptable.

A total clear out of the Scottish football authorities, both SFA and SPFL (and why do we need two governing bodies?) is required. And that won't happen, because it wouldn't suit two teams from Glasgow.

Meanwhile our rugby LEAGUE team take on New Zealand and get a draw.  Look what that team's coach said after the game and compare it with Wee Gordy's post match (non) comments."I'm as proud as anything," said Scotland coach Steve McCormack."Not only that never-say-die attitude from our lads but just the manner in which we got that result."We're also a bit disappointed that we didn't win. The players were sensational. We've played against the world's best team tonight with a young team."

World away from the round ball players' approach!  were12-10 up with six minutes to go.  Conceded two tries and then at the last gasp scored a converted try to bring it to 18 all.

Don't usually agree with Tom English but he's spot on about Strachan and Michael O'Neil!

Inspired by a comment elsewhere I ask the question - what saved you from being a Dee?

In my case my family were Dees, father, uncles, several cousins, grandfather, and five great-uncles were all frequenters of Dens Park, and steadfastly refused to even visit Tannadice. Something perverse in me made me buck the family tradition, and at the age of seven, and of my own accord, I became a rabid United supporter. In later years I went against the family and refused to become a Freemason.......but that's another story.

Dundee FC was the city's big team for many years, and as a United supporter I became the target of much leg-pulling, and on occasion, a bit of bullying.  All my school pals were Dees (fkn glory hunters!) but I remained faithful to my team, and am glad that I did. Not for me all the years of jealousy and bitter hatred against Dundee United!

Now I'm an old man of seventy-nine and in ill health, I live in Leeds and can't get to my beloved Tannadice, but I am still an Arab at heart.  I want to thank Tek for persevering with this forum,  enabling me to keep in touch with the club of my choice. You're doing a great job, long may it continue.

On reflection, perhaps this post is in the wrong section of the forum? If so please excuse me, I can only plead senility.....

Can't match your start date Leedsy, but my dad took me along to Tannadice when I was about 8.  I've got a memory of being held up to stand on the railings of the new (now Jery Kerr) stand before it had opened.  I think we beat the neighbours 2-1.

Even when they won the league, my pals and me never thought of supporting them.  Bear in mind this was when people went to Tannadice one week and Dens the next. I was at all their European Cup home games, saw them beat Cologne 8-1 (they lost their keeper - before substitutes), saw them beat Inter Milan.  Watched that team with cox, Ure Gilzean et al and never considered s

Great to see the club supporting this.

Really felt there was some silky, flowing movement last week. Need to keep the pace up. I felt we were weakest when we slowed it all up.

Hope Donaldson gets his chance AND TAKES IT. It would be a real sign Rsy's getting to grip with solving all the hangovers from last season.
