Goodwin contract

There's chat on the transfer thread about tye manager situation - so thought id give it, ifs own thread.

Currently, Goodwin on s rolling contract st united. This was good initially when we'd been relegated it made sense that we could change the manager.

However, since relegation, he has got us promoted with a huge points total, got us top 6 and now we are challenging in a 2 legged european tie.

The backdrop to that is also that hes had to ride out a tough time behind the seens with the fallout of the asghar era. His budget was hampered by the likes of tony watt contract.

Equally he's been ruthless when required - there was a lot of raised eyebrows when we let scott mcmann go - but we've really progressed

The early signs for this season are promising. A whole new team which shows signs of promise.

All in all, I think Goodwin deserves a bit of security with a multi year contract (2 or 3) and the club needs to protect itself too.

Re: Goodwin contract

Not sure if he's on a rolling contract?  But he signed a new contract in Nov 2024 which takes him through to the end of this season.

From The National(Nov2024):

With his previous deal set to expire at the end of this season, Goodwin has signed a rolling one-year extension, ensuring his position at Tannadice until at least the summer of 2026

Courier also reported this at the time

Re: Goodwin contract

Cheers for the clarification.  I had it in my head it was but wouldn't swear to it.

So does he deserve a longer term deal?

Re: Goodwin contract

Regarding goodwins contract why would we not offer him an extension, our best manager in over a decade that alone should be enough for eveyone to get on board. Can certain things be better, yes but the chances of us replacing goodwin with someone who will do a better job are so small that its not worth taking the risk. Goodwin will move on eventually whether thats sigining for another club after doing a good job here or being sacked so id rather worry about new managers then.

Re: Goodwin contract

Tell you on Friday if he's doing a brilliant job.
I'm afraid it's that fickle.
There are some short memories.

Re: Goodwin contract

So, Goodwin only deserves a new contract if the team, decimated by injuries, beats a team, which on paper, is far superior to us?

That feels a little harsh imo. Especially seeing as we finished higher up the league than hearts and aberdeen who both have vastly superior budgets to ours

Re: Goodwin contract

Goodwin was good enough last year so will be good enough next year.  It is a massive waste of money sacking a decent manager every time they go through a sticky patch.

So in my book we sign him up for a 3 year deal and either cash in when he leaves for a bigger job, or stick with him through thick and thin.

Is that based on your personal dislike for the man or a complete disregard for what he's achieved already?
Who is it that has these "short memories"? And what are they.

Think you had a sneaky dig at Jim last week too if I recall correctly.  He's done and continues to do an amazing job.
