Was talking to Motherwellarab over the weekend about the Hibs players and fans all singing 'Sunshine On Leith' together as one in unison, and we both were in agreement that it's a bit sad that United don't have an equivalent to this or 'You'll Never Walk Alone etc. A song that epitomises the club.
I know we have 'Love Is In The Air' and 'Beautiful Sunday' but both have long since had their day and only get sung very occasionally now.
'Dignity' is another song that is associated with us, but again it's not really one that is as emotive or everyone could sing word for word, the bridge bit on ward kind of kills that. Personally, i've never actually liked the song, but i'm probably in the minority there.
Got me thinking that it would be great if United invited songwriters to pen a new anthem for the club in the modern day. Maybe, ask songwriters to send in their efforts and make an album of them for sale in the club shop.
See, if any of the tracks on the album end up being adopted by the support.
Just a thought.

Dignity is staring us in the face but I doubt we don't have the gusto.
Even our Nedz were late into the game, I saw Nedz in Farfir before I saw them at Tannadice.
Sunshine on Leith is very emotive but is a dirge but Hibs manage to pull it off.
If we had their run of form incl Celtic, us & Hearts to get to that very high point on Sunday, I just don't think we've enough fans, they have more than twice as many.
I would love to hear 15,000 Arabs singing Dignity at the end of a colossal game (Hampden maybe?) & yeah, I'd be greeting.
Don't need a new song, Dignity is 100% our Club anthem.
Anyone fix it out there, we're a very inhibited support so I have my doubts.

The bridge to 'Dignity' just ruins it though. Thousand's couldn't sing that together in unison. The (set it up, set it up, set it up) bit. Just nonsense.
I also find some of the lyrics a bit pretentious and cringey 'sipping down Raki and reading Maynard Keyes'. Boak 🤮
Not just that, but i find the story of the narrator a bit smug. Almost like he's looking down on his work colleagues and taking a bit of pleasure in their misery, 'I'll be on my holidays, they'll be doing the rounds', 'they'll ask me how i got her, i'll say i saved my money'. I just find that kind of hubris the opposite of humble dignity.
Maybe, i'm looking too much into it though.😂

Keynes a man of great theories but agree Raki is shite.
Maybe keep the melody change the lyrics.

Sorry, but in my humble opinion Dignity is a poor choice as a United song. It is a good singalong one for special occasions but it really has nothing to do with the club aside from being performed by a United fan, and the lyrics don't relate to anything much. It's a good song for cup finals. Sunshine On Leith works brilliantly for Hibs as it's so relevant to their fans and the wider club/community.
Sometimes new songs do appear, North London Forever is only a couple of years old but Arsenal have adopted it. Maybe someone could write a new United one, it would have to be pretty amazing to take off though.

There is often little rhyme nor reason why certain songs become (can’t believe I’m going to use this word), anthemic. “You’ll Never Walk Alone” would never have gone beyond a Rogers and Hammerstein musical if Gerry Marsden hadn’t made his own version. Then you have the “Softly Softly” theme with the other lot. I’m a huge fan of Knopfler and I think his “Local Hero” theme is brilliant. In fact most of Jimmy Nail’s stuff was arranged by Knopfler. Quite frankly the “Big River” song is brilliant.
For a song to be successful, everyone has to be able to sing it. That limits it considerably. Whilst “Sunshine on Leith” can be regarded as a dirge, so can “Flower of Scotland” The point being everyone can sing them.
Right I going to be slaughtered here, but, my suggestions are: “I can’t help falling in love with you” Elvis; Caledonia Frankie Millar/Dougie McLean; and finally “The Road and the Miles (to Dundee).

There's a brah sang called "Proud To Be An Arab" beh Ricky Ross, but huvna heard it fur a while, and TBH canna mind how it goes.
Think've got it on a CD someplace, but it's mair or a ballad and it's probly too slow fir what ye've got in mind Tek.

I think 'It's United...." was the attempt to do this, but clearly it isn't that good a song and the lyrics are a bit naff. We also don't really have a 'Dundee' song which the Fun haven't taken as theirs. Beyond that, everything else is a little contrived and there are very few cultural references to our club. Personally I think we just leave it - I'm sure the players feel that the support from the terraces is there (especially away) so not sure its a problem.
Sunshine on Leith is perfect for Hibs, written by Hibbees about the area the club comes from. We don't really have that. Both the streets we are on, Tannadice Street and Sandeman Street, the Fun are on too. That said maybe a Tannadice song could work. I know we have sung Tannadice to Paradise by Coldplay, but adapting that would be cringe. So unless we can get a Tannadice song that isn't cringe I wouldn't bother.

There is a song from Sergeant that talks about going to Tannadice.
Always thought "Annie's song" accompanied by the sway was one of our anthems?

Could do much worse than Love is in the Air and Beautiful Sunday. Sunshine on Leith is an awful football song, more suited to going into administration than winning.

I think the general consensus is we don't have one then. All the songs mentioned are quite popular amongst the United fans but none of them are anthems.
Trying to think who does actually have an anthem...
Hibs - sunshine on Leith
Rangers - follow follow
Hearts - hearts hearts glorious hearts
Celtic - for it's a grand old team to play for
Falkirk - is this the way to Amarillo
Killie - paper roses
Aberdeen - stand free
Arbroath - 36-0
I'm sure there are more.

Always preferred It’s United to beautiful Sunday in all honesty.
It’s United can’t be stolen by other clubs either.
After Covid when we beat Rangers 1-0 and fucked Gerrard’s 40 game run, seeing 3 ends of the ground singing it even though it was 5K was beautiful. Still have a tear in my eyes watching the highlights.

Maybe you’re right. Stick with one that is ours. I always wondered if we could all rise up an attempt the slosh. I mean it would have to be a limited version, but, nobody else can add a dance to their anthem.

To the tune of Carly Simon - You're So Vain..
You're all cunts
Everyone but United are wankers....

That's the one 😂
Seriously can't see this ever happening. All the favourite songs are oldies. Talking of which I'm old enough to remember we all live in a Tangerine machine.
Dignity is absolute class and it mirrors our working class background and underdog ethos. Seen grown men shedding a wee tear to that at Hampden.

We should have been singing Dignity 20 years ago but we don't quite have it.
