Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Goodwin saying he wants another defender. Can only assume it is cover at LB/LWB for Ferry.

What else would you like to see happen?

I think we should put Odada and Miller Thomson out on loan.

If Dalby goes back to Wrexham i'd also like another forward player in. One who can run the channels and has pace. For me Paton is a straight replacement.

Odada - get rid
Miller - more game time, every time I see that laddie I reckon he oozes talent.

Just can't see him getting it.

Middleton and Fotheringham probably ahead of him on the right side and Middleton/Trapanovski on the left.

Stunting his development, i'd send him out to Championship with a recall clause put in just in case we have an injury crisis.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Thomson hasn't done enough when he has been given game time. His performance against Hearts ( granted not his normal position) was pretty woeful, still looked like a boy in a man's game.

Defensive cover might come in if Holt leaves.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Striker with pace. But who is also good. Grieve last season was fast and pish.  Very unlikely to get unless young guy from lower leagues.

Cover at left back. Would love someone doing well in Scotland who could grow into the position and learn from Ferry.

Don’t know a lot about Fiorini. But a box to box midfielder. Comfortable in possession, creative,  who will link the play

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

For me it's always been a central midfielder that can replace and/o compliment Ross Docherty.

Every game we struggle,  we rarely dominate the ball, we always show a reluctantance to take the ball in tricky positions of the pitch.

Look at last night, we were happier to launch throw ins into the box when on numerous occasions we could easily have took a short throw in and crossed it.

You rarelly win a game when you don't win the battle in the middle.

Sibbald, Babunski and Docherty, none of them can be relied on to see the season out without more injuries.

We have had Holt, Thompson, Fotheringham,  VDS and Odada all try and fail to play in there.

Both Sevelj and Stephenson are decent but aren't good enough to play as a two and need to play as a three.

We have plenty of options up front, goalscoring generally hasn't been a problem for us, we win the battle in the middle first and foremost.

I would also like to see some cover for Ferry who has been outstanding this season.

I don't disagree we need a CDM but i'm not sure we will sign one now Sibbald is back,

Though if Holt leaves for money which looks likely maybe it opens up the purse strings for one extra signing.

Agree with that too.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Big cloud over Docherty's future
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Holt's future ?  Lot of speculation.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Sibbald will be like a new signing - soon as he's 100% not before
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ..
Think we've got in as many as we'll get.   Although LWB a good call but be surprised if it happens.
. .. . . . . . . .  . . . . . . . . .
Although given that we rely on clairvoyance re injuries half the time how would you know ?

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

If you put someone out on loan you cant bring them back after 31st Jan

Miller can play a few positions, I’d be surprised if he went out on loan

Never knew that about the no recall rule. Might put the kibosh on Miller or Kai being loaned out (even though it would benefit both imo).

Seen a video of Brandon Forbes score an absolute Worldie for Norwich B Team yesterday.

I honestly would try and get him back on loan till May. Offers something that i don't think we quite have i.e pace and direct running.

He's also got very quick feet can send a defender the wrong way like I haven't seen for quite a while in a Scottish player. Such a shame to lose him so early I hope we have a good sell on clause because he could be big.

On Kai and Miller I would say Kai has shown he can impact the first team in certain scenarios. I would be keeping him at Tannadice.  Miller T was good in the first derby if I'm remembering correctly but hasn't had any impact in recent appearances so a loan might work well for both parties, as you said earlier he looked a bit lost against Hearts. Maybe just a confidence thing.

.

Best natural talent i think has went through our Academy since Ryan Gauld.

Funnily enough i wrote a post on X saying i would take him back on loan if we could till May.

Guess who liked it. Brandon Forbes.

He's up for it, make it so Goodwin/Cairney.🤝

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

I'm hoping Fiorini is the midfield ball player we are missing.  I wouldn't object to some LB/LWB/LM cover but I don't think it is desperate unless we are losing Holt.  If Dalby goes then we need to try to replace him.  Paton might be that player, but I think we would still need another of that type.

For me, as has been the case since Goodwin came in and before, we need a pace option upfront.  That is the priority.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

I wouldn’t mind LB/LCB cover like a holt who could do both.

If/when Holt goes, I’d be looking to use the 100K on a pacy striker, someone like Olusanya at St Mirren. Out of contract in the summer, would be going for him now.

Agreed re O'Lasagne.  I'd also take a look at Sidibeh and Kimpioka from the Sainties.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

The boy at Motherwell, rapid. Maswanhise

5 goals, 3 assists this season. Sure, it’s not great (but it’s not bad)

A player with that pace is a real leveller. On Monday night, we had a breakaway led by Moult. He ended up just holding on to it and waiting to get fouled.

A fast player on a counter attack is a great weapon

Kimpioka is out of contract in June.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

I don't think we need anybody, even if Dalby goes.
Paton nearly got off to a great start on Monday but for Ingram's flailing leg.
Attack down the flanks, hit the byeline. There's no room down the middle.

P.S. Good avatar Tek, pleased with that!

Just noticed Falkirk have reluctantly agreed to put Callum Morrison on the transfer list and are inviting offers.

I'd throw the entire Kevin Holt fee at that and maybe 50k on top. He'd be a brilliant signing.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

Wrexham yet to make a decision on Dalby
Phil Parkinson was asked about it and said as Sam had a game on Monday they didn't want to influence that.

Sounds a bit to me like there's a recall incoming.

Cracking player, can he play either wing?

If I remember rightly he played on the right against us in the Challenge Cup match. And cut in.

Cheers. Unfortunately the type of player that gets hoovered up by Hearts.

Re: Last 10 days of Winter Window - What do we still need?

We should be pushing hard for Morrison. Was brilliant against us in the diddy cup last season and the first game of league cup group stage. He’d give us the pace we badly need, and would also hopefully push Middleton and particularly Trapanovski to hopefully play better to earn their places.

What would he realistically cost us? 100k? We could even chuck in Fotheringham or Thomson on loan for the season which would benefit all parties tbh. That’s the minimum sort of ambition we should be showing to try and secure 3rd, especially with record numbers of season tickets sold and attendances in general, surely that ain’t pushing the boat out too much when there’s potentially a pot of about £5m at stake if we finish 3rd.
