Goodwin will get a lot of things right, he will get a lot of things wrong. That's life.
Last night the starting 11 and the tactics were wrong.
There are also some players I felt suffered from things just not going their way. If that was down to team selection, tactics, bad luck, or something else, I don't know.
He changed things up at half time and at times we looked like a team possessed.
It feels worse cos it was against them.
Never liked the Scottish Cup anyway.

Goodwin getting too much blame. Not a great first half but we win that game 8 times out of 10, just couldn't put the ball in the net. Dundee were very fortunate.
Started- Manny, Gallagher, Graham, Strain, Ferry, Holt, Sevelj and Luca last night. 8 defensive players against a team were 10pts clear of. Jim also waited till the 70th minute to change anything.
He has got a lot right this season Jim but last night was utter stinking for almost 70 minutes largely due to his tactics.
Deserves a fair amount of criticism.Aye but should also get credit for the rest of the game where we battered them. We win that 8 out of 10.
He waited till the 70th minute which was too late, he makes those subs on the 60th minute and we would’ve got at least extra time.

Dalby and Moult together wasn't what I would have started with (See page 1 if you think that might be hindsight) As Finn says Middleton and Dalby maybe should have started with the option of adding Trapanovski and Moult later. Most of our recent success has come off the flanks and Strain was off it leaving Ferry to carry that task on his own.
The makeshift midfield never fired up.
Yes we pressed later in the game but even losing that early goal we could have been level by HT if we had tried to play some football instead of punting it up to Dalby and Moult for 60 minutes.
An opportunity lost.
Wonder what Fiorini is expecting.

We still should have got at least extra time, Dundee were very fortunate. However poor folk think Goodwin's tactics and subbies were, we're still winning that 8 out of 10.

That result was coming. Derbies are levellers and sooner or later they were going to win one.
As to Dundee FC they edged it and will be happy. I can handle a defeat. But just how desperate and malevolent does a player need to be to be constantly throwing themselves to the ground? The whole game!
Simon Murray is a fucking disgrace and needs to have a look at himself.

I do think we had chances to win the game but as much as I like watching balls get punted into the box and the excitement and hope that comes from the long throws that doesn’t make up for the first 70 minutes of dross and the fact we couldn’t string 3 passes together. If it was any other team than them I’m sure it wouldn’t feel so bad and we’d say we were just unlucky on the night.

Tbf we improved from the start of the second half.
Just because he didn't make subs doesnt mean he didn't change things.

Simon Murray makes the best of the talent he's been given. He's entitled to play the game at the edges. The issue with last night was the total naivety of the referee in falling for his diving and missing his consistent niggly fouling. He's allowed to score a very good goal despite the fact we have 4 centre halfs and a giant striker on the pitch. Luca failed to defend the front post area and we inexplicably have Sevelj marking him.
I think if he takes a look at himself in the mirror after that game he'll be quite happy with his efforts (assuming he doesn't have a strong gag reflex).

Agreed, but by not having a go earlier we permitted Dundee's game plan. Get a goal, defend like feck, ride our luck and hope to get another on a break away (which they probably should have). We needed to get on terms as quickly as possible after their goal and Goodwin failed to do anything needed to do that until the start of the second half at best but in reality it only really changed on the 71st minute when we went from competing better to dominating.
I agree with others that Goodwin is potentially justified in thinking that our penchant for scoring late goals would come good, but it didn't and this is Dundee, put them to bed in the first half and party the second!

I hear you, but he was going to ground at every opportunity against the Glasgow 2 as well. I was surprised the commentators haven't picked up on it because it's reminiscent of Boyle in his diving heyday. I'm not a conspiracy theorist but I'm starting to think the west coast media favour our neighbours over us.

100% this. Like Raith last season late goals are great but when you start to rely on them there's an underlying problem.

He's an annoying fucker Murray. A diver and a bit of a gobshite and fake hardman.
But he's exactly the type of player we need. Has pace, can run the channels and can score.
It still disappoints me we never pushed the boat out for him last January when it was an open secret he wanted to move to one of the clubs in his home city. We instead paid a fee for VDS.
Sometimes the most obvious answer is right under your nose.

Murray commuted at least three fouls last night that IMO were bookings.
He was part of the worst Utd I’ve ever seen in 2015/16 and the way he signed for Hibs still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Glad we didn’t re-sign the bnb.

Another thing comes to mind looking at corner that they got the goal from.
Now Goodwin had been too see Dundee Celtic game midweek so you'd think he'd know the Dee boy had a lethal corner in him.
With that in mind mebbe Sevelj would have been better employed standing 9 1/2 yard off him and jumping to stop it at source. Certainly better employed than covering Murray 2 or 3 inches taller.
Even after goal we seemed to have no answer to the boys corners. Duaaah

He would be the perfect partner for Dalby or Moult. Just a nippy little shite.

I thought he played well last night for them, caused us some problems.
How he managed to escape a booking all the same is beyond me, in any other line of work, you would D&A test that ref for that performance.
Hope we remind him of that performance next time he steps onto the turf at Tannadice.

Exactly. That's why I thought he'd put on 4 CHs. But none of them were involved in a textbook ball and run off the front post. Fair play to the Dees their corners caused us lots of problems. I thought the boy Robertson was supposed to be shit? He seems to have a peach of a delivery. On that note, Sevelj consistently produces quality crosses in open play - why's he not on the dead ball kicks?

Adegboyega marking the man on the edge of the box at corners????? FFS - get him in the mix to power it away, stupidity from the manager

Sorry Tek mate, Let’s be real here – he’s overachieving in a dreadful squad, nothing more. He’s nearly 33 and riding a wave of mediocrity. If we’d signed him, I’d have been absolutely livid. The Funsters are content scraping by in 8th or 9th place – avoiding relegation is a parade-worthy achievement for them. That’s their ceiling, and they love it.We’re operating on a whole different level, with ambitions of consistently securing 3rd or 4th place, challenging for Europe, and building something meaningful. That clown wouldn’t even come close to meeting our standards. The thought of him at our club is genuinely embarrassing – he’s not and never has been remotely capable of producing anything close to what we need.

I'm with you in never wanting Murray and that's because he has very little footballing talent. However he absolutely gets the most out of his limited talents and you've got to grudgingly admire that. He's a better footballer than when he left us too. Still happy that we didn't push the boat out for him in the summer, but he would have on a short term basis have solved our lack of pace issue. Jumping to Hibs also counts against him as well as clearly hating us...

He scored 20+ goals for Ross County last season.
And is on something like 15 this season, already, so looking like another 20+ goals season .He brings goals and pace.
Meanwhile we spent money on VDS who brings neither.
Anyway that ship has sailed, but my point is more one that sometimes we don't have to over complicate recruitment.

Good point Tek, I think comparing them is unfair - VDS' first season in this league and only had a handful of starts, the way we play doesn't really suit him - good point on the goals but they are with bottom 6 tinpot pish teams
I feel the stats don't show the full picture - watch some of his chances on monday for example. Mince

I think most of us can at this point agree, that Murray would offer more than VDS and with injuries, Moult as well.
However, even allowing for him coming from Ross County, it would've been at a fair cost, so in hindsight, yes he'd have been better option than what we currently have, but we'd have been disappointed if we spent daft money on him, remember we're still paying the inflated wages of an ageing striker as well.
We gambled on the fitness of Moult and unknowns in Dalby and VdS, come the end of the season we'll see if that was right.
