Re: Utd vs ICT - Saturday 4th November

There was always going to be a game where we didnae quite click.
Never thought we'd lose. Raith drew which eases the pain a bit.
Squad actually looks a bit threadbare without Doc & Grimshaw.
MOTM Middleton - what a workrate.

Freeman - feel for the laddie when he first come in I mind o Hibs away Cup game - bombing up park like Andy Robertson to slide a goal in at back post. Now a shadow of that.  To say he'll end up at Carnoustie, garbage but by the same token as somebody said he offers nothing, zip, and as someone said it's pretty obvious others roundabout him see it too.   I just hope he's either a trade or can get himself to another full time team in diddy division or better still loan spell till he regains confidence (wishfull thinking that one,)       .... Oh aye one good thing wi Academy is all they laddies that come through seem well spoken, modest, clever enough laddies which hopefully gives life skills to serve them well if football doesnae work out.

Both were sitters, poor from both.

The two players at corners worked pretty well for the goal, not seeing the issue?

It takes two opposition players out of the box.   So one of our players at the corner flag requires two opposition players to mark him.
A great diving header from a corner that managed to avoid the first defender. Not once did they play it short to the each other. Can’t remember if they alternated between in swingers and out swingers.

Not saying it was in issue just never seen it before and was wondering if anybody could explain the benefits of having an extra player standing on the touchline as opposed to being on the park where they could potentially influence the game.

I commented on this on twitter.

One person taking the corner pulls no defenders out. Two people taking the corner pulls two defenders out. It's done for two reasons. The first is to create more space in the box for people to attack (e.g. Holt's diving header). The second is to have the second person run out to join the taker late, which leaves the opposition with less time to reorganise after two defenders from the front post area have to go out towards the corner flag to prevent the short corner. We actually don't really do that (send the second guy out late) so Goodwin's aim is simply to create more space in the box for Holt etc. to attack.

It's working pretty well tbh. Didn't we go about 2 years recently without scoring from a corner? (maybe exaggerating but the stats were brutal).

Can't altogether argue with that CA.
Certainly can't argue with bottom line - ie improved goals scored from corners, and contributes big time to Holts goalscoring spree.
However what I would say is break it up a little - doing it every time becomes predictable.
What I'd like to see is more of short ball to man on edge of box , then short return back to corner kick taker running in.
