Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

Big game on Saturday.

Dylan Levitt supposedly back in training. Fingers crossed he's ready for Saturday.

A few players needing to recapture their earlier season form (Pawlett, Harkes, Fuchs, Freeman, McMann).

A few others really needing to start contributing a lot more when on the pitch (Clark, Appere, Chalmers, Niskanen, Sporle etc).

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

My team would be -

...........................Siegrist.......................
Freeman.....Edwards...Mulgrew...McMann
Chalmers....Fuchs...Levitt....Meekison
...........................Pawlett......
............................Clark................

Subs - Carson, K.Smith, Harkes, Appere
           Niskanen, Sporle, D.Watson

*Freeman and McMann have been unable to get forward to aide the attack as the opposition have pressed us so high up the pitch on both flanks in recent matches. Only way to counter this is have two wide players pressing them on the counter to give them something to think about themselves, as Niskanen and Pawlett have been largely anonymous in recent weeks and haven't worked the opposition full backs at all. Chalmers and Meekison both done very well in the 2-2 draw with Motherwell at the tail end of last season. Our complete lack of goals would say to me that it's worth mixing up the side a bit in this respect*

Probably not much, agreed.

But we are again one of the lowest scoring teams in the division (joint with Dundee on 15 goals each, as the leagues 3rd lowest scorers) after being the leagues worst last season.

We need to start throwing caution to the wind a bit more.

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

I don't think we have any chance tomorrow. We are bereft of confidence, creating absolutely nothing, and leaking goals at the back. It's a really depressing time.

It'll be 1-0 Livi and our slip into the bottom four continues.

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

The team needs freshened up a bit tomorrow but the squad is a bit thin for it.
The young players are not making the impact that im sure TC was hoping for.
Apperre, Chalmers, Glass, Mochrie, Meekinson for a number of reasons have made little or no impact.

Agree. We're in a weird situation where we appeared to be banking on these laddies putting pressure on the experienced players and playing a fair amount of games but none of them, bar Freeman have offered anything in games. Normally, you expect young laddies to come in for 3-4 games before their form shades but Glass, Chalmers, Mochrie and even Smith have looked completely out of their depth both physically and tactically even playing one or two games. And yet despite this we are offering most of these laddies 3 year contracts. Glass and Chalmers will be 24-25 by the time these contracts run out. The two of them haven't played 25 games between them by age 21-22. It feels like they are in a comfort zone where they are on long contracts and don't appear to be really feeling the pressure to be pushing for the first team. The club are doing a lot of talking up, but none appear to be walking the walk. This is impacting on the 1st team who appear to know they've not got real competition for their places and have dropped a level.

This is not McKinnon, Ferguson, Connolly, McLaren, Cleland etc. or Souttar, Russell, Armstrong and Gauld.

Meekison hasn't played at all yet under TC.

But agree about the rest, particularly Chalmers. We all know he has a bit of ability about him.

Time for him to start showing it regularly for Utd. He's 22 soon. Not a kid anymore.

Goodwillie was a Cup Final hero for Utd and one of the best Strikers in the country by 21. Same goes for Johnny Russel at the same age.

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

Meekison definitely has something about him, but as mentioned, so does Chalmers but he just can't seem to produce on a regular basis, injuries really have not helped him though.

Hopefully Archie can get the opportunity soon to show what he can do, don't think it will be today though.  Not from the start anyway.

As usual I was lambasted for this prediction, but sadly as usual I was spot on again.

People need to wake up a bit about what is happening at Tannadice.

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

15 goals in 18 Premiership games.

Grim. On course to register less goals than last season at this rate, when we were the leagues lowest scorers.

This desperately needs addressed in January.

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

Seek to the core we that result the day. Apart from a sh1te 1st half oor, we were the better team. Moreso in the 2nd half and esp. The last 15 mins.

The Harkes sitter in the 1st half was a sickener, and the miss past the left post near the end was equally seekening.

We shouldna be losing at hame to Livingston. But if ye canna score against them, then yer no gonna win.

1 thing that's boilin meh p1ss, is all this unnecessary backpassing. It costs ye 20 yards or 20 secs. Gotta be stamped oot.

Noticeable improvement t when the cheenges were made, but got to question the timing oe the cheenges by TC. Made far too late IMO.

Got to be 1 of the weirdest Refs and Linesmen seen at Tannadice. They even missed the amount oe time being wasted beh the chunt in goal for Livi. Thought they were the 3 blind mice.

The better team definitely lost the day.

MOTM for me Glass.

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

Just read that so far this season we have used 28 players and I know some of that is due to injuries but I don’t see how the players are supposed to learn the system Courts wants them to use if we don’t have a settled side.

Chalmers not even in the squad today.

He's finished at Utd, ain't he?

Utter shyte today. As soon as we lost the goal we should’ve went out all attacking instead of waiting until the 85th minute.

5/24 points is pathetic and must change asap.

Not that i've heard.

He was on the bench last Sunday against Celtic (un-used). Unless he picked up something in training.

But i doubt it. Think TC doesn't rate him or his 'attitude' (the rumour).

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

Finding it hard to comment on a game dominated by refereeing ineptitude which resulted in win to Livi.

Fuchsie penalty a travesty. To me it was good skill to step across between man and ball.  One of these ones that outside box he'd never've thought twice.  At other end particulary once Louis came on our players were clearly pushed off ball which went unpunished as did fouling throughout game which got worse as game went on and Livi players were given free rein.
- Consequence, foul play which can lead to serious injury.
The boy was a wee bit late on Freeman who goes off as a result, hopefully be right for Huns - didnae look it to me.
But worse still was the continual kicking the shit out of Glass. The laddies no long back after what 9 months ACL and the silly twat gives no protection, none.
No tae mention depriving us of fine skills on display.

MOTM - Glass

Re: Utd v Livi - Saturday 11th December

A few folks blaming the ref for the result, and yeah he wasn't great, but we had zero meaningful attempts on goal. That's all that matters.

Well in the case of yesterdays masterful backpass from Pawlett to Fuchs, it was 25 secs. . . . . . . . .

25 secs for Livi to be awarded the Penalty.
