Seems to me that either you have a season ticket and get guaranteed entry to all our home games for a decent price, or you don't have a season ticket, in which case you're basically paying the same for a ticket as an away fan. There are quite a few people who can probably get to 8-10 home games, so a season ticket doesn't make sense, but they're still "regular" attendees who deserve a break on the ticket cost.
A couple of thoughts - say the club offered a discount card. Pay 20 quid at the start of the season and you're guaranteed £6 off the gate price for up to 10 home games. Maybe kids get a card for a tenner and they get £3 off the gate price for up to 10 games. Card holders also first in line when tickets go on sale. Not as much saving per game as season ticket holders get but helping out fans who get to as many games as they can. If the average cost at the gate for an adult is £28, then rather than pay £280 for 10 games, they would finish up paying £240 (220 plus the cost of the card). Attend at least 4 games to make it worthwhile. Tickets have to be purchased in advance, from the club shop.
Generates some good will, the club gets a bit more cash up front at the start of the season.
I don't think this would be very difficult to set up. Could be monitored electronically with a plastic card with a bar code, or even a plastic punch card with the person's name/photo.
Probably a few things that could be done that would save fans a few quid, would cost the club little or nothing and might even increase gate receipts due to the increased goodwill generated.
A shame Derek Robertson isn't still around, for so many reasons.
Good post CA.
