Re: Summer Transfer Window

My big concern at the moment is Wingers and a Striker. We NEED to utilise Shankland more effectively this season and at the moment all we have is Chalmers and Sporle to supply him. Another big target man Striker, in the mould of Daly, to take away the attention of one of the central defenders is urgent and frees Shankland from the need  of dropping deep to pick up the ball.

I think our Defence is more than passable, and that includes Robson who I think sometimes gets a bit more stick than is fair. If we didn't add in this department to bring in a couple Wingers I would accept it.

Personally, I reckon our transfer window is on hold until the rumoured money for Benji comes in.

Could have said it better, totally agree

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I really can’t see where we are getting any wingers from. We went down the route of a loan deal with Bolton and all that did was hold up the development of one of our graduates. I’ve not seen much of our development squad but surely we have wingers in there who have as good a chance of making an impact as anyone we can afford to sign or more likely get on a free. I must admit it would be great to get a quality signing made as apart from Shanks I can’t remember the last time I got exited about a signing ( although Fuchs and Edwards have turned out to be good signings).

Re: Summer Transfer Window

If Doyle-Hayes signs then that’s two impressive signings for me.  Obviously we need another 2 or 3, but it’s a good start.

Going to always be rumours of who’s signing and who’s leaving but let’s just see where we are come the start of August.  I know we have the league cup starting next Friday but we’re not going to have all our business done by then.

The fact we've not really lost any of our big players yet (Benji, Edwards, Fuchs, Shanks) is encouraging and I'm hoping we can hold on to all 4 of them tbh. Adding Mulgrew and Doyle-Hayes to our current squad really does push it up in terms of quality. What we need now is 2 attack minded players that take us up another level. A left winger has to be our next target.

Strongest 11 at the moment assuming Doyle-Hayes signs?

Benji

Smith Edwards Mulgrew Robson

Fuchs Doyle-Hayes

Chalmers Clark Appere

Shankland

That's before you even start to look at the younger Academy guys like Mochrie/Glass/Meekison who could easily replace Clark in that team.

Like I said, bring in a left winger and another attacking option and we'll look a lot more threatening.

If we lose people like Benji, Robson which has been reported or even Edwards, Fuchs or Shanks, we'd really need able replacements for them too.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Double barrels won't be signing, I see. Wanted more time to get another team.

Makes you wonder why it was leaked to the press that a deal was all but done (and posters on here). It doesn't make Tam the bam look any better if it looks like we try to sign boys but they don't want to commit.

Also not great for whoever we sign in that position that they will know they are sloppy seconds.

Do Kelty have any good players? 🤔🤔🤔

Weird take, he’s done this morning with st mirren for 7 months! Seems like he’s poorly advised more than anything

A bit of a negative way to look at it but fair enough.

I think from reading about it seems pretty obvious that the deal was close to being done. And at the last minute his agent has asked for more time to decide as he maybe had other clubs interested. He did it with St Mirren too and their fans are furious the offer wasn't taken off the table sooner.

Good decision by the club if he's spent the last few days going back and forward. Plenty other players out there.

Given it's been reported that the player himself is stalling and this is maybe me being daft, but.......

Perhaps, maybe, it was his agent/representative that leaked the info, to force other clubs to show their hands?

It was hardly a marquee signing to get the juices flowing, there was no point in us leaking it.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Every club in the world leaks their signings a couple of days before they happen. It is the way it works (not sure why). But constant questions about why the club are leaking things when everyone else does the exact same are not worth asking in my eyes.

Once again another embarrassment that we are leaking to Burns that someone is signing who turns out we haven't closed a deal on.  Would have thought Ashgar should know how agents work...

Burns said he was 'set to sign'

Which going by reports it would appear he was. Then stalled. So we pulled out.

Its not embarrassing, its just the nature of football.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

He's maybe not all that good anyway. He's been getting bummed-up on the forums cos he's been our only target. Hopefully we're not missing out on much.

OR

If there is a change of mind...Welcome JDH. Could transform our midfield. A marquee signing, no doubts.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

The management appointment was extremely poorly received by the fans (in general) and personally think its a huge gamble - you'd think the club would do everything in their power to make him look strong and capable.

Nearly signing players doesn't help with that. I'm usually pretty positive but this is the hand we've been dealt and I'd hope the club would be helping rather than dissapointment after disappointment.

As whether he was a marquee signing - I don't know enough about him..

The sum total of our transfer activity this season is (keeping in mind we are back training and not far away from semi competitive football) our best striker might sign a new deal, our keeper is being touted in the press for v little money (minus tax and any sort of fees due to the player), our reserve keeper is gone (good decision - on don't think he was a good enough substitute) and we've signed a 35yo in a position that's not the biggest issue (imo). It doesn't make for a warm fuzzy feeling ahead of the new season.

Hey - maybe there will be a strip unveiling with a top quality player in it and all will be forgiven.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Give there is only downside to Utd leaking a signing before it is done and 100% upside for the agent, it baffles me that so many people always assume it is the club that is the source of any leaks. Almost as baffled as if we did leak it.

I mean what can come out of it other than another club shows interest and so the deal falls through or the price goes up?

Not really - the guy (who I'd never heard of) was being touted as an important signing and we had all but his photo with pen in hand or scarf above head.  Next thing he's signing for Hibs.  When we make leaked announcements to our favourite journo to appease fans and then we royally screw it up that is embarrassing.  When will our management learn?

Everybody else is quietly going around signing up players and we've managed to get someone in for his retirement fund.  It's the same sh*t-show we've gotten used to with Mr Ashgar.  No doubt we'll get a year's extension on Shankland and the head in the sand brigade will be lauding big Tone again.

But we leak to Burns - presumably part of that deal is he doesn't publish anybody else's stuff about us?  Of course, I'm assuming that the people involved have at least half a brain.

It may well have been, but we've gotten used to Burns being the official leak.  Until we'd heard from him you would have to have taken it with a pinch of salt.  You have to assume that his info is coming from Tannadice given recent history and that he doesn't put it up without some direction from Tannadice.  Of course, he may have jumped the gun and that might mean he falls out of favour, but I somehow doubt it.

It just continues to point to amateur hour.
