Re: Summer Transfer Window

Aston Villa just signed a Jamaican player from Germany. Does the transfer meet some sort of loophole where it can be processed quicker? It might be work was going on in the background on this front but seemed to be quite quick compared to Niskanen's drawn out affair with no end date speculated.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

We're probably using legal aid instead of paying thousands to get it done quicker 😉

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I hope the lad is worth the wait, assuming he does come.  He's not wanted by a club who have just been promoted to the German second division (which I am assuming is less competitive than the English Championship) so it doesn't sound like the deal of the century, but you never know.

If our permit application is anything like our news conferences I suspect that the DWP (or whoever considers the application) will still be trying to figure out what we are actually asking for.  They are probably still trying to workout what a peripheral area sphere injecting asset is.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I'm not big on conspiracy theories, enjoy them as much as the next man just, but in every admin corridor of Scottish pro football there is a Hun & I think we are still paying for Thomo's early vote to relegate the Huns in his attempt to court favour with the fans at a time when his popularity was on the wane.

I think a player training with us without being signed (because of work permit issues or for any other reason) would not be insured. If the player got injured and he is still signed with another club, I think United would be on the hook for medical bills and compensation to the player's club. If it's a player who is not signed by another club at that time then maybe the player could take personal responsibility and/or sign a waiver. Niskanen is obviously in the former group. Don't recall if Kawashima was signed to play with a club during the period when he was waiting for the work permit to sign for us.

That's a fair, considered post and you're probably correct in as much as the reason he's not here training already is he's not a free agent and the consequences of him getting injured and subsequent insurance claim having to be paid out to either party (Niskanen and/or Inglostadt).

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I'm pretty sure Kawashima was just sat twiddling his thumbs at the Apex for 3 or 4 weeks before his permit came through, wasn't training with us prior. What a shambles that whole episode was.

He also had a newborn as well that he may or may not have went back to see(canna mind exactly). The most annoying part from what I remember is that it was almost done and United didn’t know about a language test he had to take. You’re right though, it was a shambles and extremely amateur all round.

It's not where you're from it's where you're at.

almost 7 weeks since the boy Doyle-Hayes went to Hibs and we were told there were other targets.

They might have rejected us too in not as much of a high profile way!

That's OK then.  If that's the case we shouldn't be too worried about no-one wanting to play for us.  After all we might not get the players we want but we will get the players we need.  Clearly we don't need anyone and therefore we must be guaranteed top six and a decent cup run or two.  Can't wait.....

Re: Summer Transfer Window

I've just posted on an inferior forum that we effectively have 8 new 'signings'.
Glass, Mochrie, K. Smith, Freeman, Duffy, Watson, Meekison & Neilson.
We've several out on loan too inck Ross Graham & Kai Fotheringham.
Who would you rather see in our team, Luke Bolton or one of these lads?

Me, I think?  Albeit with tongue firmly in cheek.

Whichever way you look at it the buck stops with one man if we don't strengthen and suffer the consequences.  To self-laud our own contact book and recruitment team and then only come up with Mulgrew and Carson is somewhat of a fail, especially when we 'seem' to be in for several names and lose out to others.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Ceres Arabs have posted saying we are linked with a 17yo Ghanaian attacking midfielder - Matthew anim cudjoe. Thats certainly one out the blue.

What I've seen on my quick Google...plays in the Ghanaian premier league (9 appearances). Is 5'6 and played 4 times for Ghana u20s at the age of 17.

Oddly the pic has him head to toe in bayern Munich gear but I can't see any reference to him being there/on trial or anything... note to add the 2nd article says he was there on trial and is now 18.

Interesting

If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

definitely an interesting one. Surely another work permit disaster awaits here if it's genuine. It's too random not to be true imo.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Apparently he’s already here training with us, not sure how true

I'll not be clapping if we sign a dud for the sake of it.
It wouldn't be the first time.
So Luke Bolton or Keiran Freeman?

Re: Summer Transfer Window

A word of caution before lauding this lad as a saviour. The standard of players he is playing against in that video look absolutely abysmal.

Too much commotion

Depends what position right midfield, Bolton.  Wing back/right back Freeman.

Indeed.  We have to assume that if he's got Youtube videos plenty of other clubs have seen him and not picked him up.  I'm not saying that means we shouldn't look at him, but he's likely to be more of a one for the future rather than a saviour.  We've got more desperate needs.

Re: Summer Transfer Window

Almost certainly 'one for the future' and the standard of player he was up against in his Youtube reel was no more than senior boys club level imo.

But.....

Despite all that he certainly looks like a naturally gifted player with his low centre of gravity, turn, movement, passing, vision etc.

An intriguing link at last.

p.s. highlighted the word naturally as we haven't had one since Ryan Gauld. At any level of the club. First team or Academy.
