Re: displays etc....

Flags are a big winner for me.

Always add to the atmosphere.

Some of my best memories of being young and supporting Utd are being on a terracing and big flag hovering overhead.

Adds colour and also instantly gives a game a 'big match' feel, rather than it just being another humdrum, bread'n'butter league affair.

Re: displays etc....

The displays appear to have been a boost recently, and perhaps something should be planned most games til the season's end. Felt that the crowd v Motherwell was flat throughout, no display that night.

However, folk and the players might become a bit indifferent to them if they are roughly the same, yet right now I'm simply giving an opinion, not a solution. So I'm sure bowers and the display team would welcome suggestions for slight and easy/cheap variations. Off the top of my head, what about all the flags which used to be displayed in the Shed getting an airing in the East Stand before a game somehow?

Re: displays etc....

Thinking about the displays last night and remembered this from a few years ago, there was a cup final somewhere in South America and the TV kept on bumping up the price for advertising until one company said enough is enough and told them too shove it.

This is the part I love, they went and ordered up 1000s of those foam hand number 1 things in the colours of each team, put the teams name on them and printed a big logo of their company in the centre and gave them out to the fans outside the ground.

They now had advertising at a much cheaper price but not just for the final as some fans kept them and used them for home and away games, so the advertising went on and on.

I was just thinking if you could sell that idea to Calor (but not the hands please) maybe individual stick flags tangerine and black with their logo on the black, or bigger flags using the same idea, it would be a win win for all concerned and as they sponsor the club anyway nobody can complain.

Alternatively maybe some of our local companies/sponsors would take up the opportunity for free advertising for just a little lay out? (G E Engineering, J F Kegs etc etc)

Just an idea, keep up the good work it could be crucial over the rest of the season!

We don't give a damn what the others say
We'll cheer on United all the way
For we are the Terrors of Tannadice

Re: displays etc....

It's not a bad idea but I have to agree with B&T.
What's been done so far has been supporting the team and that's the important thing here. As soon as you start waving something that has a companies name on it the show of support and pride in colours and identity is diluted.
I love the way this effort has grown over the last while. It's working and getting better all the time. Think it has to remain to be purely about United or at a stretch a GIRFUY to rivals.

The displays and support in the past month have been first class.

The company name doesn't have too be huge, just thinking if you got extra investment you can think as big as you like, anyway just an idea!

Re: displays etc....

Always open to ideas as ive said previously so please do keep them coming..

The idea of some comoany sponsoring is something we would not look into though..

We did look at getting small hand flags for whole lower east stand that would be reused but would be a steuggle to get all back in we think.

Re: displays etc....

Agree with #66 and #67, sorry doon because it makes financial sense, but let's keep the displays pure.

Agree with #68, apart from the 'well game.

Re: displays etc....

What about collecting old strips and using them on the canes as flags?

Don't know how well it would work, but sure there will be a huge amount of these lying in attics and won't cost nowt bar buying more canes.

Re: displays etc....

Loved the look of these types of displays done by Dortmund.

We are lucky that our colours are good for visual displays. Think our nickname can be utilised into a cracking display too. Mibbies more when we are more terrifying to play against than watch though.

.

The display's by most clubs in Europe are absolutely class. They really help boost the atmosphere at games and the Ultra's are brilliant. It's such a shame most Scottish teams fans have no interest in the whole "Ultra's" mentality.
