Scott Burns saying St.Johnstone offering him a deal next season.
Quite surprised they want him but good luck to him.

Hes not without talent but I dont see him as a starter next season and that's surely what he needs.
Fitness issues must be a concern for saintees?

He can beat a man but has no end product.
Never been fit enough to play 90 minutes week in week out in his 2 and a half years.
We need better.

All the best Pete. Lives just down the road from me so will always get a smile when I pass him. But just not what we need at this time. Scared to think how much we've paid him in wages in 2.5 years....
Offline
Just checked Played 63 games -4 goals in 2:5 years
He's as we all know prone to injury and now turned 30.
SJ won't be offering even half of what he is on now.
Favourite moment when he got a calf strain walking over to take a throw in against Morton inside the 1st minute. 😂

Ridiculous if we offer him a new deal.
And worrying.

Looking about online it seems I'm one of the few who rate him. Always feel when he plays that he is one of very few players that is confident enough to hold on to the ball and take it forward 10/15 yards when allowed instead of passing the buck.
Think he's a smart player also, keeps possession well, wins fouls when we're under pressure or killing time towards the end of games.
A new deal where he comes down from his apparently very well paying contract to a more reasonable amount I would take him back in a heart beat.

I just feel he flatters to deceive mate. Very little end product, ever. Though i do concede he is one of the few players in the team who can actually go past a man and looks to do so. But it's not enough for me. His runs and dribbles hardly ever lead to a goal.
I wonder what signal this sends out to the fans about our ambitions for the club and the style of play we are going to be playing when we are re-signing an injury prone player who is now the wrong side of 30 and who hasn't really contributed a great deal in 2 and a half years (imo).

Absolute fecking madness! Was well chuffed when I heard St Johnstone were in for him. Not only injury prone and wrong side of 30 but also on hefty wages. There’s zero sense to this.

I cannae make up ma mind.
Good squad man when fit.
Depends on what we intend paying him and where we could better spend the money.
Last bit the key, so for me, adios mate.

Agreed. Massive wages for an old injury prone squad player? That’s the kind of decision that put us in the championship in the first place. Young hungry players or players with something to prove is the way to go.

Pawlett is OK. But I think over his time at the club everyone would agree he has been a waste of a wage. If we are offering a deal then I hope it is only a 1 year extension and it is on slightly reduced terms. Mellon's quotes suggest he has a good influence on the dressing room and I've watched interviews with a couple academy players in the past who have singled him out as being a big influence on them. So maybe a bit more to it, but a creative midfielder needs to be on our top 3 priorities this summer.
Have we not got to trust our management? I mean, they're not daft are they? Are they trying to get us back in the C'ship? No, they have made a decision & the decision is that Peter Pawlett is an asset to our playing pool going forward (pun there too).

I wonder how much this is actually about loyalty to the current squad given that at a high, collective level, they’ve got us promoted, more or less kept us safe and taken a wage cut during all of this. To start trimming through popular squad members would be a sure fire way to piss off all of your squad.
My initial reaction was I think his apparent wages could be better spent on someone really pacey or someone who will really link midfield and attack. Generally just about improving the squad and looking to kick on. Maybe that’s still the case and Pawlett becomes a squad player with better coming in. Or, we have no money so he gets reduced terms and we save on a signing on fee!?

I suppose like most things we have to look at the big picture.
Is there better players we can sign for the money we are paying him and are they availabile / willing to come ?
I can’t see us signing 6 or so players ready to go straight into the first team and our young players will still need time to take the step up so we will need squad players.
It's all paper talk at the moment though, isn't it? Even if MM is quoted, there's no reason for him to say PP is shite and we don't want him.
Offline
Might offer him a low basic but a pay as you play deal so he only gets the higher amount when fit and able.
Not his biggest fan and wonder if recent improvements have anything to do with contract expiry.
Offline
Set to give him a new 2 year extension.
An absolutely unbelievable decision.
I have real fears about the outlook of the club under Mellon, given this decision.
Embracing mediocrity.
Offline
no way has he shown enough for a 2 year extension - very worrying
Offline
Laughable
Pawlett and Connolly been giving extensions this season, completely bizarre waste of money

I've said I'd be happy with him staying but for 2 years he'd better be taking a massive wage cut, particularly given the rumours of what he does get paid.
