FFS if Smith had just stopped that cross I wouldnt have to be reading all this...
No in all seriousness I think its probably a good thing that we are able to go into the nitty gritty of why we lost a goal. It means that there arent too many bigger issues going on in the background. I HATE that I am using this phrase... but it genuinely has been some... fine margins this season.
St J home - Connolly flogs a clearance
Hibs home - Edwards tweaks his hammy a minute before their goal and cant move quickly enough to block the shot
Celtic home - Benji puts that shot out for a corner and that goal doesnt happen
St Mirren home - totally in control then one dodgy clearance by Reynolds and they score
There are just a few example from the start of the season where one individual error or decision has caused us to lose goals. Thankfully Smith not closing down well enough and then the flight of the ball moving as Reynolds went for it cost us zero points on Saturday. Similarly to Reynolds dodgy clearance v St Mirren.
Side note... those mistakes above dont happen and we have an extra 4 points, and are currently on the same points as Hibs... so as much as I feel that we should be looking below us to ensure we dont go anywhere near 11th or 12th, we are also not miles away from challenging the Hibs and Aberdeens of this world. They are both fucking shite anyway, we are just a little bit more shite than they are at the moment.
Actually not to de-rail my own post a wee bit... but this whole league really is shite, lets be honest.
The ugly sisters have a handful of players each that have some proper quality, but that Aberdeen team, that Hibs team - name one player who has that 'wow' factor that we'd love in our team? I cant think of many. And we've seen from the rest of the league that we can beat any of them and really its just a toss of a coin who comes out on top in most games.

the league as a whole probably isn't great at the minute, you're right. A couple of seasons ago I almost feared for us going up because Motherwell were strong, Killie had Clarke, Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen had more money and better players than us, St Johnstone still strong under Wright then we'd be scrapping with the rest.
Football's cyclical though and a lot of those teams are on the downward trend or trying to get back up. Good time for us to come up probably.
There are no players in either Hibs or Aberdeen team that are 'wow' but likewise, I don't think other than Benji, we'd have a single player that would be in either team starting XI. Shankland on form, probably, but he's not. So it's less about 'wow' and more about consistency and strength in depth. that's the aim for us. Slowly improving on what we've got. Fuchs and McNulty (thankfully) looks to have started this process.
Good reply L01 to LEK's excellent forensic analysis
Just wish we had a game to talk about this weekend
